When my father passed away, I called Smith and Hatch to cancel his auto insurance. Several weeks…read morelater, they deducted the premium from my fathers bank account, it was a modest $50.00 or so. I called to get a refund, this action was quite despicable in my opinion. I talked directly to Bill Hatch on the matter said they would refund a potion of the premium, I didn't think it was reasonable, but didn't have the energy to fight with all things considered. I ended up receiving a check in the amount of about $14. My parents were clients of theirs for as long as I can remember, I would venture to bet 30-40 years if not longer. I think its ridiculous that their integrity (or lack there of) was only worth about $36 bucks. Honest business people do the right thing, not just when its convenient. My further experience with them revolved around getting quotes from them on a few different occasions, I got the same story each time from them having to have all my policies if I wanted a better deal..........quite the scam in my opinion. Do yourself a favor and go with a more reputable company.
