I know that private parking fines are not enforceable in Scotland but my beef was really with the rental company. Suffice to say that this would put me off going there again though.

Clearly I'm not hard to impress. In all honesty though, it's hugely convenient for the type of shopping I do. Right off the main road so it's easily accessible, shops in close proximity and ample parking- it's great! I guess the only annoying thing is the narrow roads, particularly when it's busy it can be a pain to navigate. Overall, the business is not enough to deter me. Five stars!

Unfortunately, its only about 10 metres long, so the conveniently placed Valvona and Crolla café halfway along is the perfect place to stop and refuel, as well as buying yourself another half hour where you can legitimately stare in the nearby shop windows if you sit at one of their outdoor tables. There are some normal shops along here too. Kurt Geiger, Bravissimo, G-Star Raw Denim are also slotted in along here, but let's be honest - you're not going to ogle them when you've there's Mulberry. At one end of this little street is St Andrew Sqaure, and at the other end is the slightly more 'down-to-earth' St James Shopping Centre, with more realistic high street shops for once you've finished drooling over the Daniel footwear. Unlike other more generous reviewers, I find it hard to get too excited about places like this. No…read morematter which city you're in across the UK, you'll always find a big glass-fronted complex housing several bang-average restaurants, a cinema, some bars and usually a casino thrown in for good measure. They all look the same, and they're pretty soul-less and boring. But, they're also all in great locations slap bang in the city centre, and on days when it's raining and you know you fancy doing something in the evening, but aren't sure what, whether you like it or not these places generally tend to save the day. For starters, it's the closest big cinema to to the city centre, otherwise you'd have to trek out to Fountain Park or up to Ocean Terminal. And there's also no denying that Walkabout is about so cheap for drinks that it would almost be rude not to. Unless of course you've parked in the obligatory on-site multi-storey car park, that is. Just avoid it on weekend afternoons, when it's full of kids, or during the Fringe when it's full of tourists.

It looked like it contained the usual high street shops with a few added extras i.e. The Whiskey Shop & Zamboo = a shop selling very weird looking vases. We searched for a food court of some sort but all we came across was what looked like Mitchelin star restaurants. It looked shut but according to the website it's open 'till 10pm. It just wasn't looking like the sort of eating establishment we had in mind, well one with food would've be good for a start. Anyhoo I ain't dissing the place as I only experienced it a little but if I'm ever back out this way I'm sure I'll pop in.

There is a large Cineworld cinema, Pizza Hut, Nandos, a casino, Virgin Active health club, bars, bingo, bowling alley and a kiddies soft play center. I actually quite like Fountain Park because it is right on my doorstep and it has everything I need for an evening on entertainment. There is a large car park so you can drive here and if you use the cinema or other businesses your car park ticket is validated making the parking free. Free parking in Edinburgh is a bonus! You can go for something to eat and know what to expect in the chain restaurants before heading off to the cinema/bowling alley/casino. It's perhaps not as large as some of the out of town complexes you see in the likes of Glasgow, but it does have everything you need and something for everyone.

The place felt quite empty and depressing the last time I was in and there seemed to be a lot of empty space between the bowling alley and the cinema, with the main concourse functioning as an extended hallway to get between the two. There is an underground car park which is free for the first four hours but if you stay any longer than that, then you will have to pay money for every extra hour you stay there. I did like the bowling alley, and the Pizza Hut was pretty decent when we went to it so I suppose this place serves its purpose with one of the only casual bowling alleys in the Edinburgh area. I hope I will enjoy Cineworld as it seems significantly cheaper than Odeon and Vue.

I don't get the layout, why not just build a mall where everything is undercover? And why is everything spaced all over the place? I think they want us to walk more. Example, toystore next to a H&M but more clothing stores on the other end of the retail park. Bit of a mess, doesn't make sense and does no make for a fun afternoon of shopping. Parking is ridiculous too and people have no patience. If you can head to the high street or buy online I'd reccommend that instead.

It's not an extensive shopping experience - you could hardly spend all day in here - but I like it because there's something kind of old-fashioned and continental about the very idea of an arcade, with its cast iron gate and green tiled interior. i can imagine men of yore in bowler hats and Victorian ladies in crinolines ducking inside on rainy days for a spot of window shopping. That's probably just a romantic fantasy of mine, but never mind.
