When I first bought my house in Duck, I got hazard insurance (fire, wind...) through Allstate in Elizabeth City. It seemed very expensive so I decided to shop it around. I tried one other local company that did a little bit better...like 5%. Then I called Jay, who had sent a letter a month or so back. I am so glad I did! Jay's price was SIGNIFICANTLY LESS...like 25% less...and INCLUDED other coverages that would have been costly extras on my other policy...things like $500k of liability; $95K for loss of rent; $50k for fence/mailbox/driveway....I was astonished at the price difference, but maybe it shouldn't be surprising since almost everything is overpriced on the OBX...one gets the feeling that some local businesses count on second-homeowners to be not as vigilant on price and/or quality. And, by the way, the coverage he sold me is with an established company (Frontline), and is reinsured by companies like Lloyds of London...and Jay was extremely professional and pleasant...HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
