Throughout my pregnancy, I kept going back and forth about whether or not I wanted to do a newborn photo shoot and had decided against it. But after my daughter ws born I realized that I really wanted some of the beautiful photos I'd seen where babies are swaddled and posed with cute props and whatnot. I wanted them done within a few days, whilst my mom is still in town, so she could be included in the shoot. Jenny reached out to me when I went to Facebook asking for some recommendations and I was excited to book a session with her at her studio in Northbrook. She was very kind (we were late--still getting used to baby time and baby mishaps!) and generous with her time. I really enjoyed talking with her and seeing her work, and she was great with my daughter as she got her photo ready. There were a couple times when my little one got a bit fussy, so we paused for a diaper change or a bit of food to soothe her a bit. I've seen a couple of the photos so far from the shoot and the are gorgeous! I wish my baby had been cooperative to get the little bum-in-the-air photo, or that I'd remembered to get one with her cuddling a little stuffed toy, but we got some really cute ones. Jenny said she'd have them by end of the week (we were there Wednesday, so that could have been as late as Sunday). However, afterward things went sideways. It took over two weeks and my contacting Jenny several times to receive access to the proofs. She'd sent a couple that she wanted to post on her social media pages which I'd given permission for the same night of the shoot and the day after, but given the time it ended up taking to see the proofs it in hindsight makes me feel taken advantage that she was so quick to edit the ones she wanted to use for advertising. When I contacted her about a week after the shoot asking for the photos, she gave me an excuse about why she hadn't been able to send them yet and on a few different days said that she would have them to me the next day, by the end of the day, and so on. (I received the proofs sixteen days after the shoot, and it took another week after I marked the ones I liked to get edited versions back.) I was really surprised when I finally DID get the first proofs that they were the raw photos, which made me even more confused as to why it took so long to receive them. After I picked my favorites per her instruction, she made "final tweeks,etc." Those edits were blemish correction and lighting. One of my favorite photos has an object sitting on the floor but perhaps that's not something that could be edited out. You could also see the loops on the ends of the garland used in one of the photos, and I wish that had been better arranged to hide those ends so it looked more like real foliage instead of obviously fake. But I also recognize that's probably me nitpicking. I wanted to recommend Jenny for anyone seeking a great photographer in the area. She does newborn shoots, pet photos, headshots, family sessions, and so on. But my experience having to practically beg for the photos for nearly two and a half weeks has made the whole thing a bad memory. I was afraid to push too hard to get the photos even though so much time had passed because she is the one who had them, including photos with my mom that could not be replicated because my mom lives over two thousand miles away and I didn't want to risk not ever getting them. When I look at the photos I don't feel a sense of joy but rather I feel sadness and disappointment, which isn't what I wanted from a photo of and with my daughter, especially at this very young, precious age. I find them hard to look at because of the whole situation and that makes it feel like a waste and brings me added regret and despair. I'm upset because my baby is not nearly as little now, so the time for those photos is time I can no longer get back to have someone else do them--and I already spent money on this shoot so I'm addition to time I can't get back, I can't afford to spend another several hundred dollars to work with another photographer to take photos that I can view with joy. It was really frustrating to see her advertising mini-sessions for one weekend over ten days after my shoot when I still hadn't received the photos to view. This was simply my personal experience and I'm not sure why I was treated this way. She is definitely well-loved by others and does lovely work, so I'm not sure why things went so differently here. However, given the difficulty I had and the fact that I don't even want to look at these photos of my daughter because of the negative emotions they evoke, I cannot recommend this photographer. read more

What a wonderful photographic experience from start to finish. Jenny was fantastic to work with. She took some of the ideas I had to the next level. My son felt so extremely comfortable working with her. So much so that she made him feel incredibly at ease and he really connected with her. She encouraged us to bring our pets and I don't know how she did it but she got all the people and animals to pose directly for the camera.
