Jenny's Kitchen has been a family run, neighborhood special that's been around since I was a kid. They've now expanded to take over all units in the plaza and have the entire dibs for the small lot. Everything is takeout only and they've got a mix of some specialty Chinese produce, frozen dumplings / buns, and ready to eat hot foods. Pricing isn't super low, but definitely cheaper than eating out and they absolutely stuff the to-go containers to the brim. My go-to items are always the Scallion Pancake, which is so large, they hand it to you folded into fourths. The dough has a satisfying chew and stretch and the scallions add the perfect bit of brightness. The braised Pork Feet are also excellent, super tender and melt in your mouth fatty with all the gelatin. Most recently, I tried the Purple Rice Roll, which is great value though it probably won't knock your socks off. Since Marina Foods changed their recipe for the worst, I'd opt for this one instead. read more

I've been meaning to stop by Jenny's Kitchen for a while now, but I rarely find myself down in South Bay. Today, during a rare trip to Santana Row, I decided to finally make a quick detour and pick up a snack to-go. Jenny's Kitchen isn't the kind of place you'll see all over social media -- and for that reason, it doesn't get a ton of attention or frequent reviews. Located in what looks like an abandoned strip mall, the spot is very easy to miss. I'll admit I was a bit hesitant, especially after seeing some of the recent negative reviews, so I came in with fairly low expectations. That said, some of the common criticisms are fair: when you're checking out, there's a noticeable upsell of other items -- deli goods, vegetables, fruit, etc. Also, keep in mind that credit card payments incur a fee, so it's better to pay in cash if you can. Not all items can be purchased on their own. For example, you can only purchase multiple sesame balls at once. With all that said, the food itself is great. We really enjoyed the chive pancake, and the fan tuan (rice roll) is a steal, especially compared to other spots like Xiaoman Riceburrito in Cupertino, where you're mostly paying for fancy packaging. The youtiao inside the fan tuan is admittedly not the crispiest, but again, you're not paying premium prices for the best of the best here. The chive pancake had a generous amount of filling. It wasn't crispy (understandable, since it had been sitting in the case for a while), and eating it out of a plastic bag wrapped in a paper towel wasn't the easiest. But the flavor was solid -- the texture just didn't hold up. The soy milk wasn't my favorite since it tasted a bit more watered down than I'm used to, but it wasn't bad. The soy milk doesn't have any sugar added, and there's no sugar available onsite for you to add, so keep this in mind before ordering. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to stop by again for a quick snack, especially the chive pancake and rice roll. Just know what to expect, bring cash if you can, and go in for the food -- not the service or atmosphere. read more

I spent a lot of summer growing up visiting my grandparents in China. Oftentimes after going to the grocery store, I would ask to stop by the Jianbing stand at the store to get one. I loved the crispiness of the 油饼 (crispy dough) inside, which balanced with the rich flavors added by the sauce, crepe, green onion, and egg. I once asked for it with hot sauce, and even though every mouthful was painfully spicy it was so wonderfully good. I haven't been able to visit my family in China in a few years, but I have been looking for places that have Jianbing to fill that nostalgia-craving. Jenny's Kitchen really hits the spot! The Jianbing comes in huge portions with lots of flavors packed inside. Worth eating when it's fresh and hot, the flavors work so much better that way. I also got a chive pancake, which was pretty good as well! The egg with chives and the noodles inside were *chefs kiss* and the flour wrapper is simple but has such good chew. I also got some of the pork and cabbage buns, and even though they're not hot/fresh when you buy them -- they taste so delicious when you reheat them. The inside is a blend between a grocery store and a deli: fridges contain soy milk, side dishes, dumplings, etc., while the shelves have ready made products (like the buns!). They also have a deli-esque section with a multitude of dishes, including assorted Chinese breakfast items as well as full on entree dishes that you can get in a combo box (which they really load up). Having always associated packed/small spaces with good Chinese food, this place certainly hits the mark! Located in an old/abandoned looking strip mall, this place is one you shouldn't pass up! The food is okay but a bit on the pricey side. Be sure to check your receipt before you leave, the cashier/business owner got mine wrong 2 out of my 3 visits. They promoted their buy 5 get 1 (more) free discount on Sundays (not sure if they intentionally created the ambiguity by "buy 5 get 1 free", what they really mean is buy 6 get 1 free), but didn't honor the discount right after they told me of the discount. Jenny helped me with a large catering order. While the shop itself is completely unassuming, don't let that derail you from trying Jenny's culinary creations. Her cooking is amazing! We had smocked chicken, which is one of the best I ever tried. Fish was very tasty as well. Steamed vegetables while simple were cooked perfectly with a nice crunch. The beef and pork pancakes are very salty. And the bento boxes are salty as well. I tried several time, because I thought it might just be a coincidence. But it was not. I spend a lot of money --the foods is not cheap--but it made my family hesitate to finish it .I even tried to rinse the foods with hot water to reduce the salty. read more

We were repeatedly pushed to buy discounted items even after saying "no, thank you" multiple times and just wanted to complete our transaction and go home. We later realized we ended up buying mostly vegetable pancakes when we originally came in to buy beef. The food is decent, but the sales pressure and lack of respect for a customer's "no" made the experience frustrating. I recommend coming earlier and being firm about what you want to purchase. What an unusual place Jenny's kitchen is. It's located at 5175 Moorpark Ave, Ste 5, San Jose, CA 95129. Corner of Lawrence Expressway and Moorpark. It's in an old strip mall where all the businesses are gone. It is the only one left. What brought me here was the scallion pancakes, as very few places have them It is strictly a grab and go with pre made buns in freezers/refrigerators. There is a huge selection of foods, some I've never seen. The lady behind the counter was very nice and explained what everything was. She offered a suggestion of housemaid noodles with steamed vegetables. I bought a few other things such as pork sandwiches, lots of scallion pancakes, and of course the noodles. By the time I was done I spent $43. I also took home a sesame seed bean ball. The lady behind the counter was the best sales person I ever met. I did not feel pressured in any way to purchase. Every item that I saw was clearly marked with prices. So when I left the store I could not believe how heavy the bag was. I put the noodles in the microwave to warm up a bit. Let me tell you this was the best noodles and and steamed vegetables I have had in a very long time. There was very little grease on them if any, and the taste was marvelous. The scallion pancakes were just like any other scallion pancake I had tried-Only Better! You take them and they are fresh, but it's a good idea to put them in a pan on the stove to warm them up a bit. The sesame seed ball was huge and excellent. I usually don't like those but I sure like this one. And I know you're all wondering how did all this food affect my delicate stomach? It had no effect at all. It was absolutely the best meal that I have had and I have lots left over for another meal. This is my new to-go place and I plan to try other items. Nice place strangely enough. After driving by here multiple times I managed to come here. The food is really good and makes a good grab and go. Note: There is like no place to sit so your best bet is to grab the food you like and go. There seems to be a lot of dough related foods as well as some Taiwanese specialties. They also have some cool drinks here from TW aside from other selections that you see in the US. The service is nice in the way whomever helped me explained everything for me to understand. Drawback: Signs are in Chinese and if you cannot read it things can be difficult. However this doesn't mean GIVE UP. The staff was nice enough to explain everything in English if needed. The food is fresh, made in house and quality around 4/5... pretty good but I've had some better elsewhere. But the variety of dian xin available for Grab-n-Go is wonderful and worth it. From pig feet, tofu, vegetables, soy milk, chive pie, bao dz, frozen dumplings, ... sooo many things here. There are better fantuan elsewhere but it's convenient here. Green onion pancake and the stuffed chive pancake were underwhelming. There's no seasoning/salt so it just tasted like raw dough. I agree it is not crispy like how restaurants make cong you bing (or how I make it at home), but maybe their style is to make it more doughy. I would not reorder these and sadly, I'll have to just toss them because they taste wrong to me. I will not rate these because I think they had an off day (everyone raved about the chive pancake) and maybe their style is just doughy. Jenny's Kitchen is a must-go for palates seeking authentic, homemade Taiwanese/Asian fare. Fair warning, however, there are lines to wait in if you don't time your arrival and when you get to the front, be prepared for a 'soup nazi' type of experience. They only allow 2 patrons at a time in the very tiny space, that is neverthless packed with items to peruse but you have the pressure of 30 people looking at you and secretly hoping for you to hurry the X up. When in doubt, just get two of everything! Black sesame seed ball Rich Sandy sugary inside covered buy a wonderfully pungent crispy and crunchy exterior. It has remarkable texture flavor, soft chewy inside. Can triumphantly re-heat in the following days. Pork and cabbage buns These are perfect for a quick snack. There's a doughy tough exterior with a generous helping of pork mix on the inside. There's a lot more pork than there is cabbage, but the flavors are there for both. Mapo tofu The tofu blocks are larger than normal, and there is a definite green chili overlay to the flavor. It is not as spicy as your typical mapo tofu. Like all the other dishes here, however, it is authentic and homemade. Moon cakes They have cakes with different insides, such as taro or red bean. The red bean one is pretty sweet, not too sweet. It is on the heavy side, and is rich, so take small bites. Pork feet Now pay attention here - if you are in the weird minority of folks who enjoy gnawing through pig feet, this is where you owe it to yourself to buy a bag. You may have to wait an extra 10 minutes, but I am telling you this is how pig's feet are supposed to be prepared - soft and sticky, but not rubbery, supple to touch, nearly falling off the bone(s). Soy based flavoring is miraculous. You're welcome in advance. Vermicelli and greens pie Vermicelli noodles, eggs, green onions, chives make up the inside of a tortilla like pancake that is toasted to a nice brown-ish color. It's a good combination because the egg balances out the intensity of the green onions. Chinese Donuts and Soymilk A childhood favorite - you can toast the long donuts (they look like unseasoned churros on steroids) at home, and warm up the soy milk on the stove. The milk is unsweetened so add sugar to taste. Hearty and will hit the spot. The beef rolls were okay, but I guess considering the price to be $12 for one order was a pretty expensive but maybe that is just how it is in the bay. This is a review for their 豬肉白菜水餃 (cabbage pork dumpling) Filling was not typical or what one would use for the dumplings. It's more like fillings for meat buns. Perhaps they used leftover meat mixture for buns in dumplings?? It lacked the typical flavor you would expect from dumplings and didn't taste very fresh. I have been in search for a Taiwanese breakfast place in the bay for a while. Jenny's kitchen seemed promising so I thought i'd give it a shot. I came on a Saturday afternoon, and there seemed to always be a line. The line moves quickly because you just order the prepared food at the counter and move along. Price: about $5 for fan tuan, $8-$10 for a bag of baos, and $5 for other random things like a chive and egg pancake. Food: Fan Tuan: Too much rice and too little filling. The rice is also too wet for a fan tuan. I prefer the rice burrito place in santa clara. Chive & vermicelli pancake/dumpling thing: This is great. I would order it again, as this has always been a favorite of mine Egg tarts: Not great. barely any filling. There is a line outside the door as they only allow 2 people inside at a time. -Fantuan - i liked how they use purple rice. It was approx ~$3-4.00 for one -Beef pie - it was huge! This review is long overdue. You'd think that when the whole SIP started that I would have been caught but nope. I used to go here every once in a while during my lunch break even though it is a little out there. The name alone should make you feel like you are at home experiencing the cooking from your grandma and mom the food certainly does not disappoint. Some things to note due to Covid: -Masks are required -Only 2 customers at a time are allowed inside -Socially distanced spacing provided outside -1 way in and 1 way out Jenny's Kitchen is a complete hole-in-the-wall place doing mostly takeout. There used to be a small outdoor dining area but it is closed off for obvious reasons. There is no set menu for the entrees because it changes daily, depending on what the chef feels like cooking at the time. If they run out of food then that's it. They have a lunch box time from 11am-1pm Tuesday through Sunday, closed Mondays. There are various choices to select from but I usually ask them to give me a little of everything. They can also sub in purple rice instead of white which they bring out from the back. So much food is packed in and it is less than $10! They do have quite a few selection of staple items like an assortment of steamed dumplings and buns, both sweet and savory, along with some veggie pancakes and savory pies. There are even some fresh side dishes, house made hot chili oil and mooncakes. They also have frozen dumplings as well. Everything is delicious and the only thing I cared for was the bitter melon. I discovered that here and my Chinese friends told me it is an acquired taste. During the dinner times they bring out trays piled high with the entrees for the day. You never know what will be available and as each customer picks up their choices more trays will replace. You will never know what you will end up with. It is quite the mix with meats and veggies. On top of the excellent food they have courteous service as well. The owners speak English so do not let that stop you from asking questions. I only had questions about some of the entrees because I had not seen them before. I highly recommend: 1. Beef/pork rolls (meat, cucumber, sauce wrapped up in a green onion pancake) 2. They even have my husbands favorite "ice skin mooncake" mochi filled with red bean or green bean stamped and shaped into a mooncake! YUM! The green onion pancake is HUGE! Come here to get your fix of Chinese carbs, and then some other stuff. Everything I had was solid, which is super rare for an establishment like this that makes so many different things. I got: Beef pancake roll - It's surprisingly difficult to get a well balanced version of a beef pancake roll - some are too pancake heavy, others don't have enough sauce, others are too oily. The version here is excellent - it's not too oily, the beef is tender, and there's just enough sauce for every bite. Radish pastry 萝卜丝饼 - Yummy! I didn't get a chance to eat this until a few days later so the pastry wasn't as flaky as it looked when I bought it, but even then it was yummy. The filling is excellent and I like that the ratio of pastry to filling is heavy on the filling with just enough pastry to balance it out. Chive pocket - I'm not a huge fan of this in general but my mother gave it her stamp of approval. Nutritious tofu - honestly still not sure what's in this tofu - it tastes much springier than tofu - but I enjoyed how flavorful it was. Spring onion pancake (with yeast) - it's rare to find this version of spring onion pancake and the version here is solid. Sour plum drink (酸梅汤) - This was offered complimentary for spending over $40. It's a classic drink in China that my mom loves, and when she had this drink, she immediately said she had to go back and buy it again. It's an acquired taste that I don't love, but if you're looking for a good version, this is the place to find it. Sesame ball filled with black sesame - Their sesame balls are solid, and I liked they they offer a black sesame filling. I don't know if I've ever had a black sesame filled sesame ball before but I'm a huge fan - def prefer it over the standard red bean. They also had cooked foods (I saw photos online of a steam table but I think due to covid they scrapped that and the food is instead already pre-packed into containers) and tofu products and even groceries. Also note that they will aggressively push their products so get comfortable saying no (although everything is pretty yummy so it's not the worst thing to say yes). read more

This is a small hole in the wall cafe that my partner and I go to to buy their spinach buns. The buns are really light and fluffy and the spinach version had a good portion of fillings. We accidentally got the radish buns because they do not label their bags and they had misplaced them in the spinach bun section. Their radish buns are decent, just less filling than the spinach counterparts. We are not a fan of the pork meat buns or pies and we bought a variety of them to try. The meat is too dense and they all taste pretty similar. We also purchased a quart size container of soy milk. Unfortunately the soy milk leaked all over the place when we got it home because the container they put the milk in was chipped. They should not have served broken containers to customers. love jenny's kitchen! been coming here for a few years now for breakfast, lunch and dinner options. our family loves what my son calls the "purple bao bao" (taro steamed bun), green onion pancake, fan tuan (they offer both in their purple rice and regular white rice) and many of their prepared dishes they cook up daily. as others have already mentioned, they also offer many other bao's, veggies, frozen dumplings and more. lastly parking is plentiful and it's just off lawrence so very easy to get to. read more
