We pride ourselves in being able to deliver a specialised and personal service, based on more than 40 years of knowledge and experience. Each Oriental carpet has its own colourful story to tell, and our experienced team will be able to relay this for you. This will not only include the origins of each piece, but also the unique weaving techniques used in the origin the carpet was sourced from. In fact, it is likely one or more of our team have visited the village during their extensive travels and witnessed the carpet making process first hand. When you contact or visit The Rug Shop of Tunbridge Wells you will be given a very warm welcome, by either Ali or Stephen who will love to show you around. Stephen gained his passion for Oriental Carpets working closely with Ali, at one of the largest Oriental Carpet dealers in the South (The Oriental Rug Shop). Most days you can find Stephen sitting on a stack of rugs researching the history of each piece to unlock the secrets and stories within each piece. Ali grew up running around the largest Grand Bazaar in the world, The Bazaar Farsh, Iran.Where his father owned an Oriental Carpet Shop, for over 40 years. It is due to these strong family connections with the Oriental carpet industry that we can source carpets of the very best quality at exceptional prices. Ali has worked in the Oriental Carpet industry all his working life, and most recently at The Oriental Rug Shop (before it sadly ceased trading).

There used to be a shop in Brighton called Hannington's that was almost exactly the same as…read moreHooper's. Alas that became a victim of the redevelopment of that part of Brighton so if you're looking for a department store in Sussex then you can't do much better than head to Tunbridge Wells and visit Hoopers. It has everything you would expect in a department store including a well stocked Kitchen and glass department and a fine soft-furnishings department. The hooper's cafe is a good place to go for tea, coffee and a range of cakes or for lunch with sandwiches, jacket potatoes as well as a range of hot meals, all at reasonable prices. It is also fully licensed. It also has a great men's department, although this is outside the main building to the left in a little arcade, and the prices there seem a little higher than in the main store.

On entering the shop we were kindly greeted by a kind lady who happily made conversation. We found our favourite Ester & Erik candles and a gorgeous candelabra. This is definitely our new favourite shop in Rye! Amazing products and fantastic staff who really want to know about you and help!
