I went here to get an inspection. As I got in line, I called and asked the time frame as I have to get to the DMV before noon and would go elsewhere if need be. I was assured I "would ah e plenty of time". Two hours later at 1120, then finally get to me. I said I need to get to the dmv before noon, "we'll try". I don't have any idea what quality of service. They provide normally. However, when I called I expected an honest answer. If they weren't sure or didn't know. They should have said the truth. I assume my inspection will be complete. But this is bad business and I won't be back. read more

I had a very bad shake in my front left tire, so I stopped by Jermantown Shell on my way home from work on 8/4/17 because I thought the problem need prompt attention. I had never been to this shop before, but it's on my way home from work, so I gave them a shot. I've been ripped off a few times I this area by auto garages in the past and have been wary of having my vehicle serviced by any garage that I don't know or hasn't been trustworthy with me in the past. If my car needs serviced, I'll usually derive 1.5 hours away to a garage that I know and trust rather than risk a bad experience in NOVA. However, dealing Jermantown Shell was a great experience. Chase put my car in for service immediately. It turned out that the belt had separated in my front left tire, so I need a new set of front tires. Chase ordered me 2 new tires and put my spare on the front left so I could get home. He called me the next morning telling me that my new tires were in and that I could bring my car into be serviced anytime that day. I brought in a couple hours later and Chase and his crew immediately changes and mounted my new tires, and charged me a very reasonable price for the work. I was there only 20 minutes. I am very impressed with there willingness to slip me in to their busy schedule and take care of my car problems so quickly. They really helped me out in a pinch, and I'll definitely bring my car back for more work in the future. Jermantown Shell has renewed my faith in their being a reliable professional garage in NOVA. Was excited to see no line for inspection & all 3 service bays were empty. I knew i would be quickly in and out! Wrong. Although there was no line, I waited for 20+ minutes before an employee pulled my car into a bay. This was while one garage employee swept the floor, another played solitaire, and the 3rd walked around a vehicle in the parking lot, waiting for a diagnostic test to finish. This 3rd employee eventually reinspected my vehicle. Definitely waited too long; no line, empty bays- what should I have expected? read more

Many times on the way home from work I need to re-fuel. If its late at night - this is my station of choice as its well lit and very open so I feel pretty safe getting gas at weird hours. Best thing here though is the amazing displays of inflatable holiday decorations with animatronics they have. The moving spider nearly scared the crap out of me at Halloween as I was standing at a pump around midnight. Sometimes relationships can change over time. You change, they change and before you know it you are just not compatible anymore. This has not happened with Jermantown Shell. I have been taking my cars/trucks to this station for over 10 years starting with a 1998 Durango with a lot of age related problems and working my way through many cars and trucks to today. I have trusted them with every problem/maintenance on every car and never been disappointed. I now own a nice German sports car, a Tahoe and a Hyundai and it would be easy to assume that the sports car should only be trusted at a dealer or specialist but the truth is, these guys give my new car the attention and care that a dealership only wishes they could muster. Furthermore, they are upfront and honest about what I need versus what I may want and their hourly rate is competitive. They also never gouge or even try the heavy handed up-sell. My relationship with Shell has lasted longer than most marriages but I am happy to share them with you. read more

Just put gas in and full/ stopper was broke or something and gas was leaking all over my car. No body came out until I went in and someone came out saying"I saw it" with a bag of sand, sprinkling on the ground. And no sorry nothing and told me to move the car so he could sprinkle more area. After my car's battery died, I started walking toward the Autozone to get a replacement but stopped in at this place along the way. They sold me a new battery (for $110 - I'm no battery price expert, but I'm pretty sure that's the list price and not marked up at all) and then gave me a ride back to my house. The mechanic suggested that my alternator might be bad, so after I got the car moving again, I drove it back there for them to check. Now, given the general reputation of mechanics and how they do business, you may be assuming that they both charged me for the check and found several things wrong with my car that they offered to fix for a small fee. But that's not what happened. They did the check for free, told me that it was inconclusive because I hadn't driven enough since changing the battery, and offered to check it again another day. Which they did - also at no charge. They ended up spending a fair amount of time on my car, chauffeuring me around, and selling me a battery, and all they got from me was the cost of the battery. And then they sent me a "Thanks for your business" card. I will be going there again. You should too. read more

Been here a goodly number of times over the years, both for gas and repair/inspection work. While a gas might be a few cents higher than other local Shell locations they have always seemed to have a high level of honesty and integrity when it comes to their repair work and state inspection bay. While I do miss some of the people who used to work here, such as Tony, Dave, and Bob (former inspector who looked like a member of ZZ Top) it appears that the owner has always had a good replacement for whoever moves on. To top it off, the owner here has a great holiday spirit. Wonderfully over the top decorations for Halloween and Christmas every year have people stopping just to take pictures with their kids. You just don't see enough of that these days. read more

Here's my story: I drive a 9-year-old American-made car with 170K miles on it. I've always kept up with maintenance and, in general, it runs pretty well. At that age and with that much mileage, parts can go on you fairly suddenly, though. On one recent Thursday night, I worked pretty late out in the Reston/Herndon/Sterling area and found myself near the Vienna Metro station about 9pm when the check engine light came on and the car began sputtering pretty violently. I limped to the Metro and parked my car overnight figuring I'd deal with it in the morning. I checked in with my normal shop located 15 miles or so from the Metro--which has done excellent work for me for several years--and they were booked solid. I thought about waiting until after the weekend when they'd have time for it, but when I learned how much it might cost to tow it there (the car really wasn't drivable for more than a mile or two), I started looking for other solutions. I found Jermantown Shell here on Yelp and felt like the small number of reviews were promising. Particularly the one from Becky P. who also drives an older car with heavy milage on it. When I called the shop, they told me they could have a look at it that morning. So I hopped the Metro in DC (where I live) and got the car there. When I handed the keys over, the owner offered to drive me 12-15 miles out of his way to my office so I wouldn't have to book a vacation day just to deal with my car. They called later that afternoon reporting that the first battery of tests ruled out a few obvious things (like a sparkplug) and that they'd need another day on it. The following morning (a Saturday), I got another call saying they found the problem (a busted spring in one of the cylinders) and would have the car ready for me on Monday. True to their word, the car was ready on Monday. The cost seemed reasonable to me: a little over $300 combined for the part, the labor, etc. In my experience, mysterious problems like that typically run at least a couple hundred dollars. And you really have to hope the shop won't try to tell you to think about getting five things done when you only need 1-2 repairs. In short, I felt like Jermantown Shell was honest, did good work and provided me with better service than I might have asked for. read more

I like this Shell! Sometimes it can be super crowded, and you'll either have to wait for a pump or move on to the next station... But what I really like is that they put up huge blow up decorations for various holidays (like Halloween or Christmas)! The service manager Tom really helped us out when the clutch on our car needed replaced. Normally I try to do car repairs myself, but this was a bit too big of a job for me. I got a quote from another shop that was really high and was ready to get rid of the car entirely. Called up this Shell based on the reviews and they quoted me a much more fair price. Then when we picked up the car it was actually a little bit less than what they originally quoted! Would definitely recommend and I will certainly be back if I need anymore repairs that are just too complicated for a DIY. Plus, we even got a thank you card in the mail about a week later. I stopped going there a couple of years ago when I needed new tires and one of their mechanics tried to bs me. I told them I loved the ones I had on there and wanted to get them again. This is my go-to mechanic since I have moved to Fairfax 3 years ago. They are honest, reasonably priced, and have great customer service. Chase is great. He takes the time to talk and explain the issues with you. Recently, I had my Prius in for a recall notice at a Toyota dealer. Their mechanic quoted me a $3,000 fix for leaking gaskets. I have not seen oil leaks in my parking spot, and the pictures they sent (after I asked) didn't show any visible oil leaks. So, I took it to Chase for a second opinion. He looked at it, and found one oil leak, and some other important issues that needed fixed. He did all of the repairs for a fraction of the price! My car is running perfectly! An associate stopped to ask if I needed help, confirmed the nail, and grabbed a man named Chase to help me with this. Chase had my tired plugged and refilled in less than 9 minutes - made great conversation, and all before 5pm on a Friday. This was outstanding and much appreciated. Promptly fixed a nail in my tire at a fair price. Fast, friendly service!

I went in with a loose muffler that I wanted secured and a loud banging noise in my right rear of my car. They mentioned the noise was my muffler and told me it would be $1800 to replace everything. I go to a different shop and they found that my right rear shock was detached and they were able to weld my muffler up as well all for $600. Seems Jermantown isn't set up for real repairs and doesn't even notice a completely broken shock which is a huge safety hazard. I have come here before for oil changes and that is all I recommend coming for otherwise find yourself a family owned Auto Repair Shop. read more

Long story short- I caught the mechanic in a lie (because he clearly didn't think i knew anything about cars) and he clearly forgot to tell me about a fee he tried to charge me before he did it (which he then rudely snapped at me when I brought it up). After seeing all the great reviews, I decided to go to this Shell. The first time I went was for an oil change and they tried to upsell me on a bunch of things I don't need, but I was fine with it- that's what car places do right? Today I go in and ask for an estimate for a simple ignition coil replacement, as I didn't want to hassle with it myself with a full schedule. The person seemed flustered and in a rush and said sure. I asked how long the wait would be, and they said 30-45 minutes. An hour and a half later, the person comes back to talk to me and gives me a whole list of things "wrong with the car." It was blatantly obvious that he thought I didn't know anything about cars and talked to me as such. I had JUST taken my car to a trusted friend mechanic a few weeks ago (who now happened to be out of town) and had all the necessary repairs made. In addition to all of these other "repairs" he goes on to tell me that I need to replace 3 of the ignition coils (even though 2 of the 4 of them are brand new), and that there was no way to tell which ignition coil needed the replacement (which is just a plain lie). After I looked at the price and catching him in that lie, I said no thank you, as I could do it myself, and he told me that I would get charged an $88 diagnostic fee. I politely told him that I was not told this before he ran it. After a short akward silence where I can see the dread on his face set in, then he actually snaps back at me telling that yes he did tell SO tell me that, and fine, that he would just give me my car back with no charge, then immediately storms out and has another person bring me back my keys. So my experience has been that this place has tried to "upsell" me with unnecessary repairs twice now and after catching someone in a lie, I simply don't trust them to go back. read more

I will never go back to this place. I arrived at the station at 8:45 a.m. to get my car inspected. When I got there, I was the fifth car in line. After sitting for nearly 40 minutes and not moving, I had my boyfriend go check on what was going on. It turns out that the technician was running emissions and inspections on cars that had been dropped off (and that were unattended) either the night before or that morning before the folks that were waiting in line. So, instead of being the fifth car in line, I was actually the tenth or eleventh. I left this station and had my car inspected in 20 minutes a few blocks away. I have been coming here for a couple years now mostly for routine maintenance (oil change, air filter, etc.) for my 2003 Pontiac Grand AM GT, and I have always been happy with the service I receive. The first time I came here was actually for an oil change in addition to some brake issues I had been having. Since I came in on a Saturday, which is usually pretty busy, I just dropped off my car while I hung out with a friend in the area. Tom called me about an hour later with his assessment and were pretty honest about what needed to get done and what could wait for later. Their price estimate was very reasonable, and I haven't had any problems with the car since then. Since then, I have come in for regular oil changes and routine work and was surprised when Tom remembered me and my car the second time I went in. Saturdays are usually busy so you might have to wait longer. One weekday I did have off and brought my car in for an oil change right when they opened, and I ended up getting my car thirty minutes later. They have always been fast, professional, and are honest about the prices and what needs to get done and what can wait. read more

These guys saved me from a possible disaster on the road and I'm so grateful! My check tire pressure light came on and I figured it was from the drop in temperature, but I actually had a super flat back tire. I was just running into the shell station to get quarters to pump the tire up, but was immediately asked if I needed help or wanted them to take a look. Turns out I had a nail in each of my back tires! I would have attempted driving all the way to Maryland after filling the tires up and could have been stuck on the road!! They patched the tires in less than 10 minutes, fixed my hub caps and I was ready to go. Without doubt the most above and beyond service I have ever experienced. Arrived at 8am to get car emissions inspected. Was 5th car in line and took almost 90 minutes before my car was inspected. This was probably because the technician was 15 minutes late to work. They said late model cars take 5-10 minutes and others 15-20 minutes, but each car before me took average 20 minutes and they were ALL newer cars. Advice...arrive half hour or more before they open because they are SLOW SLOW SLOW. read more

I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. I bought it used and it's needed some TLC. I have gone back to Chase to have him put on a lift kit, fix transmission shifters, clean out oil changes, and fix fuel pumps.
