I have a lot to say about Jerri's Pet Place. Our 12-year-old Shih Tzu Chloe passed away in November 2020. We were devastated and we were so lonely and missing our little dog. I saw Jerrie's Pet Place advertised in Fort Valley and called to see if she had any Shih Tzu puppies. She didn't but said to me she had a female who couldn't breed and had to be spayed because of an infection. Jerri didn't want to keep her so she said we could come and see her. We spent some time there trying to learn more about the dog. I asked her if she had her registration papers and the information on her surgery, and she assured us she had it all. She didn't give us the paperwork when we left she explained that she had to find it. We asked her name and she replied "Baby". We took her home and began to see what this poor little girl had been through. She was scared and submissive and would cower down when we tried to pick her up. She wouldn't drink water or eat and shook all of the time. We took her to the Vet and had her checked out. They agreed that Baby had been abused. I began to send Jerri emails about the paperwork, and what she drank out of all kinds of questions. One lie was told after another. She said she couldn't find the paperwork and the woman she got the dog from never gave it to her. This went on for about a week. I called the USDA and they explained they had to inspect her place a few times because she had over-the-limit dogs. I was also told that any dog in her possession that is a breeding dog must have paperwork and be registered. She didn't even know how old Baby was. After 3 months we noticed that Baby was having seizures. The vet said she had epilepsy and had to have been having seizures while under Jerrie's care. She was in a cage all of the time and no one noticed. About a year ago I read an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Human Society and the USDA were informed of the large number of dogs in Puppy Mills being housed and sold in numerous Breeding places. Jerris Pet Place was one of those places. She was running a puppy mill and no one knew it. She wouldn't let anyone see where she kept her puppies and their parents. I hope they continue to check on these places and stop them from selling dogs. Baby has been with us since November 15, 2020. She has a collapsed trachea and CHF and is on many medications but she is finally living the life. She has been all over the state camping with us and traveling and has never been put back into a cage. She is our loving little Shih Tzu and even though she has been through so much she is happy. In July 2019, Georgia Department of Agriculture inspectors made the third visit of a series of three 90-day inspections after Jerrie's Pet Place had been apparently instructed to reduce its numbers, groom dogs and improve upon its "rabbit hutch style" enclosures. As of July 18, 2019, the department decided the licensee had resolved all of her former problems, including downsizing in numbers and upgrading to chain-link runs with dog houses instead of using the hutch-style enclosures. The department stated that it was satisfied that the kennel reduced its numbers to "approximately 90 dogs (not counting new litters of which she has 2)." But when the department made its next visit on Nov. 13, 2019, it seems some issues were still present. The licensee was issued a violation for inadequate temperature. There was not enough heat provided to enclosures for nursing mother dogs with their puppies. The inspector noted, "several litters were observed shivering." The inspector noted, "I explained to [the] owner that allowing the dogs to simply shiver was not acceptable and that she would have [to get a better heat source] or move the dogs to a warmer place, especially given that these are all small breed dogs." In addition, an inspector noted a concern about space because 90% of the enclosure space for adult dogs was outdoors "leaving very little room for the indoor portion of these enclosures," which gave the dogs almost no heated space. There were about 80 dogs on the property during the November inspection, and the inspector noted that the licensee was being encouraged to continue to downsize. Jerrie's Pet Place appears to be offering many breeds of dogs for sale via its website, jerriespetplace.com, and offers shipping. As of March 2020, it has an active state license, but does not appear to have a USDA license. Dog breeders with more than four breeding female dogs, who sell puppies online sight-unseen or to pet stores, or in other ways that don't involve meeting the buyer face-to-face, are required to have a USDA license, according to the Animal Welfare Act. I don't even know where to start with this review.i traveled from Charlotte, NC to GA to pick my pup up. She did keep him an extra two weeks after paying my deposit which I appreciate, however I've had my Cockapoo since April 20th of this year - he is 1 year and a few months. Since I've had him, he has ran away twice! He was on a leash, literally broke out of his collar and leash and would not stop. Thank God I was able to get him back. I contacted Jerrie in which she gave the advice to "Fry him some chicken - he will come to fried chicken" .. on her website she claims the puppies are potty trained in which they are not. From the moment we left this breeder he has shown signs of abuse. It's nearly 3 months later and he still jumps when you try to touch and pick him up. He doesn't come to treats. He will go days without eating food. He will only show signs of a healthy normal dog, around other dogs. He seriously acts like he is so traumatized and scared that he will be hit. I've since had him fixed, which could have led to the need to roam, however he still acts very scared of everything and will act as if he will run if I let the leash drop. I really should have looked at the area in which the dogs were kept. Seen the parents, something. I just feel so blindsided right now after invested so much money and time trying to figure out what's wrong with this dog. Someone warned me that because she has so many breeds, that could be an issue. I just want other people to be aware. read more
