Do NOT go to Dr. Mongelli. I'm not one to write bad reviews, but my experience was so horrible, that Im literally begging anyone reading this to stay far away from her. Going to the dentist isn't the most comfortable thing, but the horrible smell and freezing temperatures inside her office cause discomfort before the appointment begins. She's extremely friendly, but she is so loud and kept referring to me as "friend" I assumed she didn't know my name. She told me I needed 2 root canals but only 1 crown. I needed some fillings and I figured I would have to book a new appointment for that since this was just a checkup, cleaning and assessment. But she didn't even look inside my mouth. She looked at the X-rays and told me she didn't do root canals so I'd have to go to a specialist. She refused to perform the check up and wouldn't be cleaning them. This was so bizarre. I got the information for the root canal "specialist" & tried to book another appointment with her for fillings. She told me she wouldn't be doing anything until the root canals were completed. A week later while getting my root canals the doctor informed me that I likely needed 4 not 2. I explained that Dr Mongelli said she could fill the other 2. I watched him turn to his assistant and shake his head. It was so obvious that he has dealt with Dr. Mongelli's recommendations and seemed irritated and frustrated that I was given bad advice. I went with the original 2 and followed up with Mongelli. She told me it wasn't necessary and they were just trying to make a buck. I wanted a crown on both of them but she told me that it wasn't necessary. 1 would be fine. It took me 3 more visits to get 5 fillings and a crown placed. I also never got that cleaning done. A few weeks later I got a very large bill. I called her office to get it fixed since I have insurance. They told me I didn't give them insurance info so I would have to pay them and request reimbursement. I definitely gave them my insurance and there was no way I was paying her 4 grand for 5 fillings and a crown. They refused to take my info over the phone and told me that I failed to provide it before the bill generated and I would have to deal with getting a reimbursement. She then asked for my credit card over the phone for payment. I told them I would just come down to the office and work it out. She told me not to come to her office ever again and if I didn't pay the full bill she was sending it to collections. I decided to call the state and my insurance to see what I needed to do. I had to call her back for the billing codes and was met with the same nasty attitude. She interrupted me and asked for my credit card, I explained I was on the other line with insurance and needed billing codes. She let out a loud "ugh" and said that I could deal with the collection agency because she wasn't wasting anymore energy on me. 2 weeks later while eating a taco my back tooth broke. And by broke l, I mean crumbled. It was a soft taco. I found another dentist and he informed me 4 fillings were missing. He was able to get my records from her and those 4 fillings are the ones she just did. That broken tooth was the one she said she could rebuild and a crown wasn't necessary. I am now getting bills from collections for her because I can't do anything with my insurance if they don't know what was billed. I gave them permission to get my bill from her and discuss the charges, but after 3 phone calls left on hold or disconnected my insurance told me they weren't able to get anything from her. The new dentist I went to is on the board and he let me know this would be addressed. That dentist also let me know that I did need the other 2 root canals. Please!!!! Who likes to go to the dentist? Yeah. Who should even ask that question. To be frank, I like this dentist, her style and her service. People often write a review when they are unhappy - but this dentist? She's amazing. Her staff and hygienist are knowledgeable and friendly and they took the big scary out of much needed dental work. Wonderful environment (great music) and great dental experience. That sounds like an oxymoron... but it's possible. I actually look forward to going back to her. read more

I don't know what other people are talking about with their negative reviews. I went here when I first moved to Helena and they were unbelievably kind. I walked away thinking, "hmm, maybe the dentist isn't so bad after all!" Her dental assistant was phenomenal and Dr. Mongelli was so kind and helpful too. My teeth had never been cleaned better and they were gentle when I told them dentist appointments make me anxious. I will always continue going here as long as I live in Helena. read more

I cannot even walk into this place without getting sick. They make no effort whatsoever to make it warm or inviting. You can smell the dentist's office from outside the building. Inside it is dark and quite uncomfortable. The rooms are very small. The dentist herself is rather chatty, which is fine except she absolutely cannot handle anyone who has a fear of dentists. She will not do more than one procedure per office visit either because they want to charge you separately for each visit. Though her work tends to last, she is quite rough while doing it. If you do visit her, I highly recommend having pain killers available for when the anesthetic wears off. read more

Run away! Seriously. From my friend: "I have had years of fabulous dental experiences to compare Mongelli to... and she is one of the absolute worst. Years ago, I took my child to her. Even walking in the door, the smell of the office place made my skin crawl ... like a building plagued with mold over decades since the 1950's. ... Both my child and I had our teeth hastily cleaned... by a hygienist that barely touched a whole surface of a tooth and whose breath was putrid smelling. Because our teeth felt 'dirty' (unlike after any cleaning ever before), we scheduled to go back for "real" cleanings. ...... THE KICKER: When asked about 'mercury-free filling options' Mongelli said she would only do the silver amalgam fillings (which consist of liquid elemental mercury) that is known to leach dangerous mercury into our bodies. She scoffed at concerns and said they were "myths". ...... I told her my health improved significantly once had the silver mercury amalgams removed... so it wasn't merely 'myth'. Mongelli became UNPROFESSIONAL, curt and highly agitated. Then said she was 'uncomfortable with me' and told me to leave and never come back.' I think because I was on Medicaid at the time, she thought she could treat me like a piece of dirt. Everyone deserves better. Dr. Mongelli's billing is a disaster. Despite insurance explanation of benefits showing a zero balance owed to her from us, she continues to send us bills with no explanation what they're for. When contacted to correct the billing error, we were laughed at on the phone. Furthernore, if you need her for anything non-dental (such as providing an appropriate form), she will not do it. She will instead punt it to her receptionist (who is usually gone), rather than take 30 seconds and get the form herself. Her dental examinations are quick and hurried, and there have been times when they have pulled the wrong charts (different patient's charts), which hasn't been noticed until well into the appointment. It took me over a year to find a dentist who was conservative and didn't try to force unnecessary expensive treatment plans. A dentist who was upbeat and positive rather than judgemental of my fear of the dentist. Jessica and her staff have earned our business. She did a thorough checkup and instead of telling me what needed to happen, she gave me options for a treatment plan that I was comfortable with. As someone who gets pretty anxious in a dentist chair, Dr. Mongelli is a godsend. She is a cheerful, upbeat dentist who does good work, and has been great at billing my insurance. I've been going to her for a few years now and have never, ever had her try to do any unnecessary work. I'm always impressed by how quickly I'm finished and out the door, I rarely have to wait past my appointment time to be seen, and she's always been really great at making sure I'm comfortable. Services she has provided that were not covered by my provider 100% were reasonably priced, and they were great to deal with when I asked if I could make payments. I can't disagree that the office itself could use a little updating, but in my opinion the decor is far from an important factor when selecting a dentist. The office and exam rooms are always spotless, and the woman who works at the front desk is both helpful and friendly. read more

Do not go here! It had been a while since I had been to the dentist, so Googled local dentists. I called half a dozen, but they were all booked out several months, except for Dr. Mongelli, she could get me in that week. The office is very old and the equipment is dated. It's also extremely cold in the office. So cold that I could only focus on the fact that I was freezing while in her chair. I had my XRays and then she delivered the bad news. I needed 3 root canals and a crown for one of them. I also needed several fillings. She recommended that I have 2 back molars extracted because "I don't need them" and it will cost me less. She said she would refer me to specialist because she does not perform extractions or root canals. (*insert eye roll) I asked if she would take care of some of the fillings that day because that is why I booked the appointment. She said she wouldn't do fillings for me until I booked appointments for root canals and extractions. I left her office feeling pretty defeated and no further along in fixing my teeth. I scheduled my appointments with the specialists but one of the appointments was over a month out. I called her office to ask if she would start the fillings so I can get this completed as soon as possible. She agreed. I went back to that freezing office and spent the next hour with her in my mouth. THERE IS NOTHING GENTLE ABOUT HER. She was very rough. She came off entirely to chipper and kept referring me as "friend". (Let's do this friend, how ya feeling friend) It was quite weird and she wouldn't stop talking to me the entire time. Every time she asked me questions unrelated to my oral health, she would completely stop what she was doing. She can't multitask, that's for sure. After this visit was over I needed to book another one to finish up my fillings. In the mean time I had 2 teeth extracted and 3 root canals done. During this visit she did a few fillings and made a temporary crown. She told me I didn't need crowns on the other molar and pre-molar b/c she could just rebuild it by filling. I really wanted her to fill one particular tooth because it had a chip out of it and I kept rubbing my tongue against it. She told me just to wait until my next visit because it was on the back of the tooth, and even though it was annoying me it wasn't visible. Finally on my last visit to her. She placed my permanent crown. She started poking around my mouth and I about went through the roof when she stabbed the tooth I had complained about. I kid you not when she said, "oh my friend, you're going to need a root canal on the tooth." I was so overwhelmed. I told her that she said it was fine to wait to get it taken off. She responded by saying that I must have waited too long. I burst into tears. I don't have the money to be doing this. She put in another referral for me. I got out of the chair, still in tears and walked out. ****Now lets talk about her work**** I went and got my root canal done. I also learned I would be needing 2 more. I didn't understand why I needed 2 more. I did just have a bunch of fillings done. I was informed that most of the fillings that she did were no longer there. The did not stay in place. I literally had them done just a few months ago. The back molar she said I didn't need a crown for had basically crumbled. My root canal doctor told me I need crowns after root canals, especially if they are molars. He didn't under why she didn't recommend a crown. Her billing is also ridiculous. I kept getting bills for the full amount in the mail. And when I say kept getting bills, I mean I would go to my mailbox everyday and everyday there was a bill from her. Very weird. Also I had insurance so her invoice wasn't correct. I called the office and was treated horribly. They told me I didn't give them my insurance information. That's was a blatant lie because I remember on the first visit I had to run out to my car because I had forgotten to bring it in. The receptionist told me to just pay them and then I should file the claim, because it would be easier that way. Seriously, that's not easier for anyone, but Dr. Mongelli. They never filed with my insurance company and never provided me with the codes to file myself. It seemed like they were not happy that I left in tears the last time I was there and now they refused to help me. I called after I learned that almost all the fillings she put in were no longer there. I was informed that I caused that to happen. FYI- it was in no way my fault. She performed sub par unacceptable work. I didn't feel I should have to pay for anything other than the crown, and the ffillings that have stayed in place. Turns out she didn't feel the same way. She was determined to get me to pay her in full. Not happening. I have filled a BBB claim and a complaint with the Montana Dentistry Board. DO NOT GO to Dr. Mongelli. She is a fraud. I recommend Dr. Mongelli and her dental office. I came in quite apprehensive and left with a thorough understanding of my dental problems and the needed procedures. Dr. Mongelli made me feel less anxious explaining what dental procedures were needed without added stress fto me.. I found her staff friendly and helpful. Her office understands the needs of the patients which she serves. Ok, so to be honest I read the first review and based on what was stated by Shannon M. I did not directly go to this dentist. I called around and was told by almost all of the offices I called that I had to wait 5-9 months for a cleaning or I had the choice of some highly recommended high tech facilities that sounded great but either wouldn't take my insurance or wasn't preferred so I was going to pay through the nose. I finally got in to an office that will remain nameless but was obviously out to sell me on a higher priced procedure. When you quiz someone about what they would want to fix "if they could do anything" and spend most of the phone time about potential treatments instead of just trying to find me the right appointment, it is obvious you are going to not be focused on my well being rather you are out to milk me for $$. I got so fed up that I "resorted" to calling Jessica Mongelli's office and spoke a most pleasant and professional woman. I had to miss my first appointment as my husband hurt his back and they didn't bat an eyelash. The were very understanding and when we arrived I was pleased at a clean office that is a bit dated but had plenty of current magazines and was calm and welcoming. The staff was super friendly and my hygienist was quick and distracting when I had to have full x-rays done and was in a bit of pain. She advised me on what to do next and then wrapped it up with a visit from Dr. Mongelli. I could hear the dentist from the other room and was surprised that it was the dentist as she was so lively and cheerful but I was glad to know that I wasn't dealing with an intimidating judgmental dentist. She kept it timely and answered my questions and told me what to do next. I completely disagree with the first review by Shannon and while I do think there is room for improvement in small areas I am so pleased with this office and will be back. My suggestions for improvement would be an update to the decor just for aesthetic appeal and a little more heat in the waiting room. Also, this was our first visit and I know cleanings will get better as we get to know the hygienist but my husband said his bottom teeth were not polished quite enough but I am seriously picking here as it was so great all the way around. Please, please go to this office and support them. The big guys with the high tech equipment are fine but Dr. Mongelli and her wonderful staff are warm and compassionate and have earned my business. read more
