Popped in with no less than eight films, from yonks ago, and asked about development prices. He said usually they would cost about £7 each for development and to be put on a disc (no prints) but in this instance he did all eight for a fiver! I thought it was a grand deal, as some of these pictures were ancient and mightn't have developed at all, so I was pretty chuffed. Got them back today, and although there's the standard disappointment in my own photography skills, the whole process was swift and grand. If you ever nip in, no matter what the requirements, the chap in here is sure to do you a cheeky deal. Well worth checking out, and I'm sure he'd have plenty of handy advice should you require it.

I use Proam Imaging regularly, mostly for my university work…read more It's a really good business, offering really cheap and good quality photo prints. I'd say it's aimed at more professional or semi professional customers though, because you need to know a little about digital images to get prints done. To get digital prints, you need to download their colour profile from the website and follow specific resizing instructions. It's a little daunting at first, but once you've done it once or twice it gets easier. The positives to doing this though is you know your prints will look perfect, because you've done the resizing and colour tweaking yourself. I usually take my images in on a disk, and they tend to offer you the prints in 24 hours. Sometimes if I've needed them sooner I've asked for them to be done on the same day, if they are quiet they usually say yes and don't charge me extra, but often they are far too busy to fit it in. The staff are generally friendly, sometimes when it's very busy they can appear a bit stressed, but it's understandable. One point that I have never liked about this place though is they charge you £1 for a folder to put the images in (or 50p for small prints) They do say you can bring in your own envelopes/folders to avoid this cost, but they don't make it easy for you. You can only bring them in when you collect but by that time your images have already been packed into one of their envelopes, so it would mean having to take the prints out again to put into your folder. Recently I think the standards are possibly sliding a little bit, I got some prints done which a few of them had bright yellow lines down them, and some of my classmates have suggested the standards aren't quite the same. However, it's definitely my favourite print shop, and my complaints are only tiny in comparison to their excellent service and nice quality prints.

Also, shop floor prices do not reflect the web price so you have to be on the ball to get the best prices in store! On the whole for convinience from all 3 main Leeds camera shops when compared, (and for comparison prices on the internet), Jessops quite often are cheaper they are cheaper butyou have to know what you are buying as not all technical knowledge is forthcoming from several staff memebrs for compatablity to kit you may alteady have. Ordering products in to the store is frustrating from 2 main points 1. Not phoning you when they promise too (VERY ANNOYING) TO GIVE YOU DEFINATE DELIVERY DATES OR INFO. 2. When Jessops staff do call you they tell you it should be in and when you turn up no one knows where the product is and the system they are using showing warehouse info conflicts to what you are told.Not good!! On a plus point, starting off with the camera they were VERY HELPFUL helping me navigate around the camera on many occassions with revisits so thanks very much! Will I continue to use Jessops? Yes, but if not on the shelf, I just wont bother.

The people behind the counter couldn't have been more helpful and extremely knowledgeable about all things to do with photography both past and present. John who runs the business was very interesting to talk with. As well as selling photography equipment and cameras (both new and used) they also do film processing and printing from both film and digital. They have recently installed new colour printers and the print quality was the best I have seen. They have an extensive range of stock and seem to be very reasonably priced. We will certainly be back, BCE will be our first choice now when we need anything to do with photography.

I like this style of shopping, as I hate asking questions about things if I'm not fully sure I'm going to buy it. So this way I can see if they have a particular brand of lens, and then go in and ask. I've been in to buy a cable release for a film camera before, and the member of staff that dealt with me was very helpful. He first offered me a new one, which was a lot more expensive than I imagined! So I told him I was on a budget and he mentioned they stock second hand ones for a fraction of the price. They do sell new digital cameras as well, but their speciality is second hand film cameras. There aren't many shops like this around now, so I hope they manage to survive. The prices are reasonable, of course you will likely find items like this cheaper on ebay, but it's always a gamble. Staff are helpful, I once phoned up wanting a particular type of camera and the lady on the phone had a good look to find what I wanted, which unfortunately they didn't have. I think it'd be helpful if they had an updated list of stock online as I know similar companies do. This way it's easy to check what new items they get in, as second hand stock will likely change daily, and the best items will go quickly! It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I encourage anyone interested in taking photos to go have a look. Maybe even pick yourself up a cheap film camera and some film and give it a go!

They sell things from the simplest digital cameras to those proper light reflector things that I don't know the name of, because I'm not a pro photographer! I was looking for a tripod when I popped in and there were plenty on offer from about £30 into the hundreds. Wow there, I don't want to spend that much! I might look on the internet to compare prices but if there's not much in it I'd rather come back here to chat to someone about the kind of thing I need. They also had loads of bags designed to fit around your camera - very handy and not something I've seen around much before.

I'm not a photographer but I have been known to dabble in the past and I was truly misty eyed to find this place full of cameras of a wide vintage most of which needed proper film (for you youngsters that's a sort of light sensitive material that makes magic pictures). I was transported back to my boyhood but not so sentimental that I failed to investigate the possibility of selling some of my cameras (yes they do buy them). I actually went in with a query about a digital camera and the chap offered to take a look free of charge before giving me honest advice which, incidentally, meant no profit for business for himself. I was quite nervous about ordering a lens through emails and a phone call as I like to handle equipment in person before purchasing, but I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
