They have an excellent worship band without being showy. The preaching is straight from the Bible and relevant in its style. Gateway is big enough to meet your needs but small enough to know your name. I'm glad my family chose Gateway!

People continue to amaze me in that they…read morewill lie, conspire, and do just about anything: I have been looking for a church to attend since I moved back to Alabama. Last week I met one of your greeters, (name withheld), on my way to Buckmasters. We had a lengthly discussion about work, religion, and her role at Church of the Highlands. She used my phone to send herself two e-mails on projects my company is working on. She agreed to meet me next Sunday, today, at 9:30 to attend the service. I sent her a single follow up e-mail during the week and did not have any other contact with her. So when I was ushered outside this morning by a Church of the Highlands Greeter, Richard, saying he needed to talk to me I was at first bewildered, then surprised, then insulted, then threatened. Richard said he had been approached by a member who felt threatened by me and he was telling me on her behalf. Information that was new to me. I have NEVER been judged and executed by a church after meeting only one member who had a lengthly discussion at her own will. Richard did not ask for verification or confirmation of any communication or action he made a lot of assumptions and attacked me with veiled threats. It is apparent to me that that lies and mis-information are the tools of Church of the Highlands, their agents, and members.

We were walking up Dexter Avenue from the town center fountain towards the Alabama State Capitol Building when we passed the Dexter Avenue United Methodist Church at 301 Dexter Ave. It is a large beautiful church located across from the Alabama Supreme Court building. It was not open to go inside, tried the door knob but I was able to take photos outside. History of the Church: The beginnings of Dexter Avenue United Methodist Church may be traced to the Session of the Alabama Conference of the Methodist Church, South, during December of 1887. Early in 1888, land was purchased at the corner of Dexter Avenue and Bainbridge Street. At this site was a building containing Dotzheim Grocery and Saloon. Dexter Avenue Methodist Church was formed in January of 1888 in the Saloon. The members met there several years. In 1890, the present site of the church was purchased. The cornerstone of the present building was laid in 1892. The present structure was completed and occupied in 1896. Dexter Avenue United Methodist Church has been a presence in downtown Montgomery for more than 124 years, "lifting high the cross of Christ at the crossroads of Alabama." Dexter, one of the most beautiful churches in Montgomery, has been at the forefront of being a strong presence in the heart of downtown Montgomery

Saturday outreach program in the local community of downtown Montgomery and the homeless population. Just like our home church in SC, this place hits you with friendliness and home from the moment they open the doors for you. They had greeters placed throughout the grounds to say "hello" and give you a warm smile. This rang out with me as I held a similar position at our home church. It just gets you ready to receive the message. We went to the 11am contemporary service which means different things to different people. I normally wear jeans with a button down and blazer. The kids wear jeans and nice shirts. There was a mix on site, but you can tell it wasn't even a concern. My wife and I looked at each other after receiving a hug from one of the last greeters before entering the sanctuary. Her warm embrace was like that of an old family member. We got some coffee just before heading in a while we waited to finish it, a host asked was it our first time. When we said yes, he and another began telling us all about the church asking did we want to take a look around while we finished our coffee and did we want to see the children's area. The children's area was phenomenal and we set the kids up to go in. The hosts were so friendly and courteous you could tell the Spirit was upon them and this was a great use of their gifts. We went in just as the service was getting started and the pastor's message was well thought out, outlined and it was an atmosphere where we could listen versus being "entertained". I truly appreciated that . Another interesting thing was that the pastor explained that the offering was for members and that do not pressure visitors to contribute as he knows they tithe at their home church. That was quite refreshing. After service he also came into the congregation and spent a great deal of time meeting people before he and his wife went to the door to thank people for coming. It was a short service, but one with a clear message and a call to action. To me that beats theatrics any day! Upon leaving to get the kids, we saw that they were offering Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and we signed up for it! We met many people on our way back to the children's ministry. People of all colors and backgrounds and everyone was so nice. Another thing that sold me was their diversity. It is such a shame that churches continue to segregate themselves knowing that God created us all. It seems that the staff understands this and considers itself a beacon to ALL men. The folks in the Child Care area were so helpful! The director came to talk with us afterward even though it wasn't her week to work. She introduced us to her family and chatted with us for a while. If you are looking for a friendly church, one in the Word with plenty of ministries and place to worship in a diversified atmosphere... EVANGEL is the place to be. We'll see you there next Sunday!
