Baeksulgi with pumpkin and beans subtly sweet, good for health.

One of the best tasting Korean rice cakes in LA or in the United States (good portion too compared to other places in Koreatown) My favorite is the pumpkin baeksulgi (white rice cake with pumpkin and black beans) very delicious and chewy, not too sweet at all. If you're sweet tooth person, I recommend getting kkul ddeok , both are really yummy Grab your rice cakes here at Jihwaja for yourself or gifting anyone you think of right now... I highly recommend this place.

The rice cakes are decent, but I think it's a bit pricey. The taste is pretty good, though. We got brown rice dduk and some dduk with beans and other things in it, and they made it healthy like we asked them. They don't give discounts on the rice cakes at the end of the day, though, like the other places do, so that's a bummer. The lady said the owner prefers to throw the rice cakes out instead of selling it at a discount. :(

I used to love coming to JiHwaJa for the kimbap (Korean rolls) and the rice cakes. On my last visit, the gogi kimbap (beef rolls) was almost all rice with a smidgen of meat. I'm still going to give them four stars because I love their rice cakes, which have remain consistently good and fresh throughout the years. The selection of rice cakes gets sparse in the later hours of the day, but you could always check the markets that they supply (Hannam Chain is the closest).

usually Love this dduk bok kki but today was disappointing, the huge piece on the side is an ONION!!!!

Their rice cake is ok, you can probably get better elsewhere, but their kimbap is particularly good!

The ham is rolled up and in the center of the croissant, so make sure you bite into it lengthwise to get the ham and cheese all together. Fantastically savory!!! Elderflower Rhubarb: Not as sweet as it appears to be!! Delicious--the elderflower notes come through as you chew, and the ratio of jam to bread is generous. Chocolate Hazelnut Pain au Suisse: Tasty, chocolatey, and hazelnut flavors throughout. Feels like a refined Ferrier Rocher wrapped in bread. Definitely needed water alongside this one because it's quite rich! This was a fun spot to try, and the vibes are beautiful, cozy, and quiet on a weekend morning! All three croissants had an insanely layered bite and excellent crunch/crisp. A bit pricey, but a fun place to try if you're in the mood for nice bread!

The key is to go on a weekday to avoid the line, as the weekend can definitely get busy. This last time I finally got to try the tofu cream topped croissant, which was ~to die for~. It was a little bit savory with the miso but still (not too) sweet. This felt super original and I would definitely recommend. I also tried the pistachio croissant and asparagus danish this time round and both were extremely good as well. I would have no qualms with re-ordering either. The only note is the pistachio cream is pretty runny, so it's hard to cut and share, as the cream just oozes out. The workers there are super friendly and kind. The drinks are also very good if you're looking to get a little extra treat as well.

We tried the nikuman and curryman, and both were outstanding! The nikuman had a meat (chicken?) and veggie filling that was crunchy and slightly sweet and salty, while the curryman had a traditional Japanese curry filling that was tasty with the perfect amount of spices. They perfectly warmed both body and soul on a chilly LA morning. If I lived nearby, I'd eat these every day! We also tried the yuzu cream pan, which was also pretty epic. The topping was a little crunchy, complementing the soft bread and creamy and smooth tart filling. This is definitely my new favorite Japanese bakery in the US! I just wish I lived a little closer to it.

The vibe inside was cozy and relaxed, which made it easy to slow down for a bit and enjoy everything. It's definitely the kind of place I'd come back to whenever I want good pastries and coffee without going somewhere overly trendy or complicated.

I got a sausage bbang, a chocopie, and a dalgona latte. The sausage bbang was soggy on the bottom and honestly tasted like it was from the day before. The chocopie barely had any filling, just a thin layer of marshmallow and jam. It honestly felt like they used most of the marshmallow for their Dubai choco cookie because it's probably more profitable, instead of properly filling the chocopie. If that's the case, it's better not to sell it at all than serve something like that. The dalgona latte was also disappointing. With ice, the drink only filled to the bottom third line of the cup marking. Clearly, they skimped on the milk. There was also a weird moment when I paid. My total was $15.25 and I paid cash, but I was given $4.75 in change. When I said it should be $5, she seemed confused and asked what I meant. I told her I literally gave you a quarter right now, and she questioned it before eventually giving me the correct change. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a mistake. I understand times are hard, but charging more for products that clearly had corners cut doesn't sit right with me. It just comes across like there's no integrity. Clearly the quality and portions are going downhill. I wasn't even planning on writing this review. I was going to stay quiet, but the chocopie really ticked me off. I'm not going to pay for food that skims on ingredients and shortchanges customers by charging more for less, so this will be my last visit.

Parking is a bit hard but that's ktown for you. For sure the treats are good but wouldnt describe this place as one of my go-to's in korea town to study nor to catch up with my friends.

And I know that vanilla cupcakes with buttercream frosting is pretty easy to make, but sometimes I'd rather just buy baked goods than make them for myself, especially when I'm driving past what I thought was a popular (and presumably good) bake shop. I expected a high-quality cupcake. The cupcakes looked cute, but they were as dry as the Sahara. They should have been labeled as white cupcakes as I didn't detect any vanilla in them. I suspect that the "buttercream" was made with milk and margarine and powdered sugar.....so much powdered sugar. It was sickeningly sweet, and it was dry too. And a true bettercream doesn't even use powdered sugar. So not only were the cupcakes terrible, they were not even what they purported to be. This is like calling a cut of meat a filet mignon and serving a hamburger. Von's, Ralphs and Albertson's make better cupcakes than this for a fraction of othe price.
