The absolute best strawberry ice cream ever! Took the ride from Columbia, MD after hearing so many good things. The line was long, but it moved pretty quickly. The root beer float was good too. Will be back for sure!

We waited in a long line (though moved fast!) on a very hot day. It was worth the wait! Very friendly and quick service. I just got a vanilla ice cream in a cup with sprinkles. Definitely satisfied my ice cream craving! I didn't realize they also had Italian/water ice. Will have to try that next.

First of all, it's ice cream! Soft serve only, which is my personal favorite. They offer the creamiest ice cream I've ever had, anywhere! The portions are beyond generous, almost more than I can eat (and I always get a small cup with Jimmie's). There is almost always a line, regardless of the weather, but with two windows open, the line moves quickly. The seating is all outside, along the parking lot, on picnic tables. Until recently, they were a cash-only business but they now accept cards too. The menu has a lot of variety, including shakes and floats, sundaes and cones. They've got an extra small size for little kids, but even that is generous. It's a happy place to go and enjoy a delicious treat. Family owned for as long as I can remember, at least 15 years.

I have been coming to Jimmie Cone for years but in the past few years after moving to Frederick I have exclusively been going to the Mount Airy location. Each time I go I get the Small Chocolate Milkshake which is hands down the best milkshake I've ever had. Something about using soft serve ice cream to make a milkshake is just amazing and I never get tired of it. The Mount Airy location can get crowded with long lines at times but I promise it is well worth the wait. I look forward to many more years of frequenting Jimmie Cone in the future and I recommend anyone looking for amazing soft serve ice cream to do the same.

Great local ice cream place to stop at after a day of shopping or a hot day out with the family! Their homemade soft serve is creamy and smooth, with the perfect amount of sweetness. The number of flavors is limited to vanilla, chocolate, twist, and a flavor of the day, but they do not disappoint with the delicious taste of the flavors they do have. Toppings are always fresh and cover your whole ice cream, so you get the flavor you want with every bite. Sizes are also very generous compared to the small, medium, and large of other ice cream shops. You certainly get your money's worth here. There's no indoor seating, but it's nice to enjoy your cone out in the sun. Typically they have picnic tables to sit at enjoy your ice cream or frozen ice. Highly recommend coming here!

We love this place and have for many years. I always get the same thing - swirl of chocolate and vanilla with rainbow Jimmies. They are doing a great job with protecting both customers and their workers during the COVID19 pandemic. They are requiring masks for all customers and employees. Employees are wearing gloves and there are separate personell handling money and food. They have removed the tables and have markers on the sidewalk for social distancing. Many people sit in their lift gates or just hang out in the parking lot. You'll often find car meets going on in the parking lot and some pretty cool rides show up - both vintage and modern super car. Low prices, great soft serve (and other choices). Cash only. Enjoy!

Came here bases on reviews and I have to say this is my new favorite ice cream place. It is quite "hidden" in the ACE/food lion shopping plaza but it's not in the strip area but directly across from food lion at the end of the parking lot. There are lots of tables so no need to stand around. Also this seems like the hangout spot for kids so the lot is filled with them. I was a bit overwhelmed with the menu as it wasn't clear exactly what flavors they offered and there were all sorts of flyers on the glass booth with additional flavors, and since we were in line I didn't get a good chance to look af everything. So if this is your first time definitely step aside and look at the menu and all the flyers. Everything came out really fast. We got the black cherry soft serve which was a really nice texture and not overly sweet. Also got the mango water ice which was fantastic; it had a sorbet consistency and not too sweet. read more

Oh, my God, love Jimmy Cone. A classic place in the middle of nowhere, Montgomery County. Jimmy Cone has been a staple for young kids on a Friday night, middle school and high school dates for decades. The line never seems to end on weekend nights, their ice cream is awesome and their splits and blizzards and well pretty much everything is kick ass. If you are looking for a place to go to watch locals and see high schoolers squeal their '87 iRocZ out of the parking lot, this is the place to be. Great people watching. Jimmy cone is a must when traveling anywhere near there. i think they are closed in the winter. read more

J-cone is always the move on a nice sunny day. The Best time to go is mid day, because the evenings can get crowded. However, the lines move fairly quickly and after you get your ice cream you can watch the car show for free afterward if you like. (sat night usually) I got the mini sundae with hot fudge vanilla ice cream it came with whipped cream and a cherry on top. Everything here is pretty good including the milkshakes and malts, this is my go to ice cream spot and always will be. It's a Town favorite, they have another location further up route 27 in Damascus, that location is solid as well. A delicious sundae for $4.00, I will definitely be back before the summer ends! read more

Best Ice Cream in the DC Area. New Season, Not Quite the amount given in the past. Maybe the economy-maybe I got the "new guy". I went to Damascus. I should try both to compare. Sounds like a yummy project. They're PROBABLY the same, but someone's got to make sure. It just goes to show-the BEST places do not have to advertise & even the location can suck. Every bit as good as the original in Damascus, except the building lacks the character of the original. My review from Damascus stands true here. "Grew up eating Jimmie Cone for over 40 years, and have always loved it. But it took being a middle aged man with plenty of ice cream experience to truly appreciate just how good their ice cream is. It has a deep, rich flavor and this smooth, creamy texture that just begs to be savored. But you can't. With those jimmies all over it, you just can't help but gobble it down so fast that you almost get brain freeze! 5 stars for sure, this place is great! Love this place, fantastic ice cream. It reminds me a lot of the good old local ice cream places I would visit as a kid growing up in Nebraska. It's got that kind of small town feel. The times I have been here in the Summer the parking lot has been full and the seating is outdoors. One thing they do fantastic here is their Chocolate Malts, wow. Additionally, my Father lives out this way and he says they have fantastic cones. You know it's Summer time when you see lines of people at Jimmie Cone :) Definitely, a five star Destination! read more

Best ice cream in Maryland by far,they are fresh and you can taste it.Ive been going here ever since I was a little Kid and they have never went down in quality.There prices are very cheep compared to some big name company's.The staff is always quick to get out your order and move the line along quickly.Quick warning though they only accept cash so don't come with with a card as it will not be accepted.Besides that this place has always been a favorite of the area and I will continue to come here whenever a friend or just me alone are craving Ice cream read more

This is a great place for soft serve ice cream and real milkshakes. All outdoor seating. It's located in the Food Lion parking lot. Friday and Saturday nites are great to sit around have an ice cream and watch the people cruising the parking lot. The first and third Saturday of each month (April-October) there is a cruise-In. Lot's of street rods, muscle cars and classics. Jimmie Cone is a real Mt. Airy tradition. They have another location just down route 27 in Damascus. read more

This is a great local favorite! The ice cream is soft and delicious. They have tons of options and flavors for great low prices. This place is conveniently located in the parking lot of Food Lion and makes for great family outings or a cheap ending to a date-night. read more

The best soft serve ice cream you're going to find in these parts! I was skeptical at first when they call sprinkles "jimmies", but nonetheless.. the ice cream did not disappoint. Portions are huge too. It's cash only so make sure you hit the ATM before going. read more

i grew up going to the damascus one.. the mt airy is just as good just not as deep a history. i love the car shows in parking lot in the nice weather and selections, selections, selections! jimmy cone has it all! the sizes are huge! my onlyyyyy slight gripe is the costs BUT its still cheaper than stone cold creamery or those other places. i guess i just yearn for the good ole day prices haha as for "service" complaints on here, gimme a break. i been going to a jimmy cone for 25yrs+. its a person sitting in a small area, speaking to you thru a small window. ive never been treated rudely nor had any issues. a smile, please, and thank you is what i expect and what i get. im not sure how else they could make their "ok what do you want, the total is xyz, thanks" get any better! read more

I agree with everyone else. Jimmie Cone is a landmark in both Damascus and Mount Airy. And the family who owns them both - I went to high school with one of the sons, but didn't really know them - they are super nice, willing to donate to local causes, etc. Prices are reasonable, and even though in the summer the wait can be atrocious, you're rewarded for sticking around with a delish, soft serve treat. Bottom line: a must for any one visiting Damascus or Mount Airy. You'll be hooked. read more

Sorry to say took my wife ,daughter and 5 grandchildren tonignt and a young man who I didn't get his name other than a big kid with blonde hair turn this trip in to a visit to Jimmie Cone to forget. Not only was he rude he didn't get any of our order correct .He had a hugh chip on his shoulder and decided to take it out on us. Hot Fudge cake boat consisted of 1 or 2 small bites of cake under the ice cream. Once I finally had a taste of cake I went fishing and couldn't find anymore. Very skimpy on the hot fudge too. Gotta agree with the previous reviewers -- you really can't give Jimmie Cone anything less than 5 stars. You know it's summer when you can't get a spot in their parking lot, and the lines are long. I love the fact that it's a bit of small town Americana...now located in the almost soul-less suburban area that is this area of upper Montgomery County. read more

I don't understand what everyone is raving about. I have grown up going to this place, and it's good, but it's nothing special - just soft serve ice cream - which pretty much tastes the same anywhere you go. And they only have chocolate, vanilla, and twist....occasionally they'll throw in another flavor like orange. Nothing about what they serve is one of a kind or hand made. Soft serve ice cream just comes from a milk-carton like container of mixture that they pour into a soft serve machine. Anyways. It's cheap and has all of the toppings. Family friendly. But they don't accept credit cards and there is always a really long line. read more

So the kids went to their first ice cream outing of the year and were so excited to go to Jimmy Cone's. Distracted and talking we missed our call to pick up our order and after about 10 minutes or so we went up to ask where it was. The staff said they threw our ice creams away because they were melting!!! OMG!! And they refused to give us new ones or reimburse us!!! OMG!!! Of course our evening was ruined. So don't go to have a nice time, don't chat with friends but watch for your order like a halk! read more

I think something happened before. Regardless, I don't have a dog and it doesn't affect me. What matters is the ice cream. They get the milk from Guernsey cows which you can visit at certain times. The milk is super creamy. As a result, the ice cream is thicker and creamier than others. I like their creamy flavor if you like plain. They circulate flavors and recently tried their strawberry which has chunks of strawberry and has a nice flavor profile. They are right off the road so easy access. They have picnic benches all around and a playground for kids. Certain times in Spring/Summer, there's a flower field to look at. The service is good. Never had problems. The inside is rustic and simple. The main thing is to get the ice cream which is worth it in my opinion. It is a farther drive for me, but the quality doesn't compare. We had tried a lot of places near by and we still find this one as the superior one.

When I pulled in, it was nice to see several parking spaces available. On a much sunnier day, I wouldn't have been as lucky as there are only 17 parking spots, 2 of which are for handicapped patrons. I ordered from this part of the menu: Cones and Cups Choices: Cake Cone, Sugar Cone, Waffle Cone, or a Cup Ice Cream Flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Black Raspberry, Twist. They have several toppings and I wanted to get Butterscotch or Hot Fudge, but the employee reminded me of something: their ice cream is soft serve, so if I wanted to add toppings to my cone, it would need to be placed upside down in a cup. I settled on their jimmies instead (aka sprinkles) and got it on a small vanilla ice cream cone. I had a choice of chocolate or rainbow jimmies and went with the latter. Within a minute or less, I realized the small cone I selected was rather tiny and it had a wallop of ice cream on top. Within seconds, I could see it was about to melt right after it was handed to me, so I grabbed as many napkins as I needed. As I sat on one of their many picnic tables and proceeded to lick one side of this massive cone in front of me, I could feel the drips on the other side of my tiny cone, and this wasn't even on a hot day. I "tried" to be quick but ended up having some of the ice cream melt to the ground or on my fingers. Napkins to the rescue!!! "ice, custard, and happiness", more like icy demeanor, custard, and vigilance. while eating our ice cream in the parking lot she aggressively glared at us and upon a customer pulling into the lot, she frantically locked the doors and turned the open sign off in anger. next time i attend a rita's ice establishment, it will not be on maizie's schedule.

The service is speeding and we have noticed the constant improvements of the grounds year after year. Some years with umbrellas, one year, a whole playground got erected. Seating increased, etc. Just like how they keep improving the experience for the consumers. The parking can be limited on hot summer days and especially Saturdays. It's not a large location. It's a quick stop, eat, and go type of place. Limited flavors and some rotating, but it taste and feels fresh - think chunks of strawberries in the strawberry flavor.

yum! i love the vanilla ice cream with rainbow jimmies. i usually get the small size, as anything bigger than that is wayyy too much to handle haha. it is a bit pricey but well worth it as the soft serve is very creamy and just overall good read more
