I was referred to Top Tech by a manager at my local Jiffy Lube. I know have a permanent mechanic shop to go to!!! This is a huge stress relief as my mechanics moved out of Austin just before Covid. Top Tech's staff were very friendly, attentive and effective in diagnosing the problem and then promptly fixing the problem the same day. I took my Honda Accord in for the wind shield wiper fluid motor being non-functional and I need a diagnosis on having overly tight power steering. Oh! And they did a fully synthetic oil change. I came in for a basic vehicle inspection for work yet they completed an in-depth vehicle inspection where I was hit with a fail and an over $1,400 bill to fix the issues. It is funny how my work sent me to their people and I passed. Also $1,200 for rear break pads is outrageous. No, I do not recommend this place what so ever. Severely overpriced prices and charges and the place scared me into fixing a lot more stuff than was necessary. I was charged $ 175 for break flush, 122 for power steering flush. Additionally, i showed up with an issue of ONE rotor on my left side . I thought they were changing just one, but they changed BOTH. Additionally, they changed break calipers because I "absolutely had to had it replaced". Then they recommended me spark plugs for $429 but i already had spark plugs replaced less than a year ago. The list of "things wrong with my car kept growing" and one back wheel issue mushroomed into a ~$1600 bill. AWEFUL. I am very disappointed with this. Steer clear of this place if you are on the budget. if you scroll down, there are other people that left a similar feedback: overcharging. I've been in a couple tight spots over the past week. I live in my '92 Aerostar and was in need of assistance. Here is my experience, I will allow you to draw your own conclusions. On Monday (4/11/22) I called in around 5 pm and spoke with a male. I explained that I needed 3 lug nut locks removed from the wheels, two tires mounted on said wheels and an alignment done because the car was pulling to the right. I was told to bring the car in and so I had it towed as I had a flat tire. The next day after the lug nut locks have been removed they call and tell me that they can't check the alignment or mount the tires because they "don't have the equipment" and that the bill will be $150. This was the 5th mechanic I had spoken to in that many days and 2 others quoted me either $30 or $50 dollars to remove the lug nut locks. The reason I had my car towed to this shop and not one of those is because I was told certain services could be provided which was not true at the time I called in. Having said all that the two people I spoke to at the shop were friendly and I get the impression they do good work, in this particular instance it seemed like a lot just fell through the cracks. Also they did at least fill my flat tire which allowed me to drive to the shop that had quoted me $30 for the lug nut removal the day before and have the actual work I needed done done so that was nice read more

First, these are very nice people. Very courteous and I believe well intentioned. Not every shop will allow customers to supply their own parts, which saves money, but this shop does. This is a huge plus. Therefore, I might recommend this shop for minor work. However, my experience with this shop has been subpar. I brought my car in last year for leaking intake manifold gaskets. Turned out the timing cover was leaking too, which was unexpected but not an issue. The problem is after the work was done there was a large grease mark on the fender where the mechanic was leaning over the engine (no big deal, but annoying), there was a faint smell of burning oil (which is to be expected due to the nature of the work, but it never went away and in fact got worse), and a faint tick coming from the engine. I returned to the shop for other maintenance (transmission filter replacement, oil change, state inspection) each time mentioning the oil leak and told each time that it was normal. (Sure, the car is 15 years old, but the engine at the time had about 80k miles on it). The vehicle ends up leaking 1qt of oil between each of the two oil changes since this initial work. One of these oil changes was performed at this shop which probably should have noted the leak. I did tell them the car lost a quart of oil. During my return to the shop for the oil change, I was also told that my car was ready to pick up that afternoon/evening. When I went the next morning the car was still on the lift ,and was told that they were waiting on an oil filter. What???? I took the car to another shop that was closer to my home for the next oil change, and they let me know there was oil leaking from the front crankshaft seal and the oil pan, and that there was a bolt missing on the front of the oil pan (engine mount bracket?) that would have been removed during the timing cover removal. I brought back the car to this shop for correction since it had been less than a year. They were kind enough to replace the front crankshaft seal and noted the engine appears to have developed a rod knock. (I also mentioned the oil pan leak, but was told that was not a priority with the rod knock. I also mentioned the missing bolt, but nothing happened with that either.) I have since spent more time researching and learning more about automotive repair, and I cannot help but have suspicion that something was dropped in the engine during the intake manifold and timing cover repair that caused the ticking sound and has developed into a larger and very costly issue. Yes, the car is old. Yes, there was leaking coolant and oil prior to the initial service. But I had a very thorough inspection of the vehicle performed less than a thousand miles prior to this initial service. The difference in the engine sound prior to and after the service was significantly different and the summation of the other issues with this shop point towards a fair probability that negligence played a role in the deterioration of my vehicle. I wished I did a better job of documenting the state of the car before and after, but you live and learn and hopefully this review helps others make a well-informed decision. read more

These guys are pretty good. Price quotes were better than the other S. 1st or S. Congress shops that I called. What I've realized is that auto work has to be judged by the job (not the mechanic or the shop), and I've had some decent jobs done at Jimmy's - timing belt, brakes, tires. The only time something wacky happened they took care of it right away (driving away with smoking brakes was kind of questionable). It was pretty weird considering their usual chummy talkativeness that the characteristic "I'm-not-going-to-understand-this-technical-information" explanation was missing. We came here to inspect our car that we had just bought. We were quoted $90 for inspection. It seemed fair enough. But we clearly notated to Jimmy that if anything else needed to be done to contact us. Jimmy took it upon him self to take the horn relay apart and charged us an additional $90. I visited Jimmy's Top Tech Auto and initially had a good experience until I drove about 30 miles in rush hour traffic on I-35. I received a notification from my car instructing me to stop the engine immediately. I was on my way to work and ended up missing work because of this. I contacted Jimmy and brought my car to him the next morning (it was near closing time when this happened). I asked Jimmy for a partial refund and he barely listened to what I had to say before telling me no. He also told me that he could not give me a partial refund because, as far as he could tell, nothing was wrong with the car or they repair they did. He also stressed this cost him money and time since he had to take a look at my car again. I explained that I missed my job that night and would like the refund because of the time and money I lost. I see many positive reviews of this auto shop and that is great, as my initial experience was not negative. However, the true character of a person is displayed in moments of adversity. Jimmy acted in a very unprofessional manner by not only refusing to honor what I said but also by dismissing the whole matter. I contacted the Better Business Bureau hoping he would respond to them. Unfortunately, he was completely unresponsive to the BBB's several attempts to reach him. ****BEWARE**** they tried charging me $95 for checking a check engine light. i never asked them to do so. btw. its free to do it at autozone. then they cross threaded my oil drain plug on a simple oil change. they didn't tell me. weeks later oil just dripping all the time. i had to replace the whole oil pan. new mechanic for found the evidence of a temp patch job (tape around old plug). read more

Went here after a recommendation from a friend and could not be happier with the service! I was having an idling problem and took it in around 3pm on a Monday, Jimmy said he couldn't get to it that day but if I brought it in the next morning he would get me in and out as soon as he could. Brought it back the next day and he made my car a priority. He plugged my car into their computer and ran some diagnostics and it turned out to be a dirty valve. He said it would probably clear itself out if I drove it around and sure enough it did. He didn't charge me a dime and was really helpful in answering my questions. Don't pay attention to the other reviews on customer service! What would you rather have anyway? A good mechanic with occasional bad customer service or a shitty mechanic who is really nice? He was honest and courteous with me and I will definitely take my car back here. read more

One time I brought my car in with a full tank of gas for a problem that only occurred when I accelerated, he put the car in the shop and ran the engine until the tank was on empty IN IDLE then had the nerve to say he could not replicate the problem and that he thinks my gas indicator is broken. read more

Took my car here for a state inspection after taking it to another garage that tried to rip me off by telling me I had a serious brake problem (beware of Capital City Auto on S. Congress). It was $29.25 (I paid cash to avoid the $1 credit card fee). Manny and Mr. Nieto who did the actual inspection were friendly and efficient. Don's Automotive also on S. First had recommended this shop (and Manny specifically). They are also a great place but unfortunately don't do state inspections. read more

He came to my house to jump my car to avoid a towing fee and fixed my car quick.
