I hired MBP Contracting LLC in April 2026 for a $20,000 loft and downstairs bathroom renovation. I…read morepaid $15,000. The owner Mike promised in writing on May 18 the job would be "100% complete" that week in exchange for an extra $5,000 beyond the original 50% deposit. He collected the money. The job was never finished. What was delivered has been condemned by every independent contractor I consulted - it must be demolished entirely before any legitimate work can begin. Both shower installations are non-compliant. In the downstairs bathroom, plastic sheeting was applied over purple moisture board installed with severe open gaps. That plastic surround is now peeling off the wall because it was applied over a substrate that could not hold a bond. Water is entering my walls every time the shower runs. In the upstairs bathroom, the same type of installation. Neither installation would pass inspection. Both exhaust fans vent into the ceiling instead of outside - a code violation Mike admitted in writing. No stair handrail was installed despite being explicitly requested - a code violation and safety hazard. Bathroom lighting is wired so the loft lights must be on for the bathroom lights to work - an electrical code violation. The wrong paint color or no paint was applied throughout despite written specification. Two doors were hacked at the bottom - one because the subfloor wasn't removed properly, one because the frame wasn't built square. Brand new vanities were damaged. A window was installed with air gaps allowing bugs in and is the likely source of water now entering my ceiling. Debris and trash were abandoned on site despite the contract stating cleanup was included. The subcontracted crew arrived via Uber daily, showed up between 9-11 AM, and Mike lost contact with his own subcontractor for weeks - admitting in writing "I haven't heard from Herb in days." His own employee visited June 12, found walls not properly adhered, and left early because he had no supplies. Mike personally scheduled a meeting for June 26, offered the time himself, then didn't show and didn't answer three phone calls. When I sent photographs of the work, Mike called it "TLC." When I demanded my money back he disclosed the company has no assets and is dissolving, then offered monthly payments. I am filing with the Pennsylvania Attorney General under HICPA, my local District Justice, and the Department of Labor and Industry. I have every text message, every photo, every video, and his own written admissions preserved. $15,000. Two failed showers. A peeling surround. Mold already growing. Active water damage. Multiple code violations. Silence. Verify any contractor's registration with the PA Attorney General before hiring. Get everything in writing. Do not trust this company with your home.

He was ok with it. He gave me a date a few weeks out. The night before I called to confirm and see if he wanted me to do to prep for his arrival. He sounded surprised, like he forgot about the job, but did arrive the next day. When I stopped home at lunch to see the progress, he seemed awkward . I asked him if he also does outdoor painting, to which he said he did. He said is this for you? I replied yes. He told me to call someone else and made a recommendation. It was very obviously at that point that he didn't want to work for me. The job started Thurs, continued to Friday and he planned on finishing on Monday, although he made it sound like a hassle. Monday came and I returned from work as he was starting to load his things in his truck. I swear he saw me as I was 5 feet away from him. I could tell from his body language that he was upset about something as he was slinging his stuff around. I was walking behind him about 5 feet and said hello and got no response. He went back in the house & slammed the door, literally with me a few feet away. I coughed it up to him having a hearing aid and maybe not hearing me but I KNOW he saw me. I gave him a few minutes before approaching him as he clearly was mad. He made several trips outside with his gear, haphazardly slinging it and slamming the door. After about 10 minutes or so I went in as he was "cleaning" up. I asked him a question about paint and also about the use of the fiberglass tape. My husband wanted to know if he did use it as it wasn't visible during any stages of the repair. Not only did he not make eye contact but he got real condescending and said " I used a whole roll is that good enough for you hon? I don't want to argue with you."..., real nasty. He continued to "clean" even more visibly angry at this point so I went on my porch as I felt uncomfortable in my own home. He finally left, yelling "it's all yours" before leaving. I went inside and found the bill laying there and thought how disrespectful that he couldn't even hand it to me, than proceeded to clean what he should have cleaned the remainder of the night. When I checked my phone later that evening he had sent a text telling me he left the bill and asking if I would be paying again by bill pay. The time was while he was still here! I responded the next day, told him I got it and would pay again with bill pay as I don't have checks. He asked when and I said now. I also told him that I felt disrespected by how he spoke to me. He did not respond until the weekend when he said he felt like I accused him, whatever. Dude was mad when I got there. The July 4th holiday came & by Monday he was texting me telling me he didn't get payment, to track it, call the bank etc. I screen shot the proof and reminded him there was a bank/mail holiday. He continued to press me for it texting constantly for 2 days! Each text got nastier. He accused me of not paying bills, threatening to come over to collect payment in cash, blah blah. At first I tried to be nice and reiterate what I had been saying all along. I told him it was very unprofessional to hound for payment. I even went as far as to send him a link explaining bill pay. I finally got ghetto on him and told him I would call the police to which he responded he didn't want the job anyway, than continued to text another full day. But I no longer responded. This man is the defination of unstable and clearly has either an addiction or gambling problem to hound someone for a measly $1000. I don't know how he stays in business with that attitude. I had to condense the story for space allowance but trust me, he is a wack job!

We were looking for a great local business to paint our 1 year old deck. He was able to come over to really look into the needs of the job, and not just give me a price. He informed me of the time line of the project and the need for ideal temperatures and weather (which I would have not to thought about). His knowledge of aesthetics was also useful since I would have not thought about the additional vertical surfaces around the sides of the deck that would also require matching paint. He was able to let me know the type of paint that he was recommending (he dropped off a deck paint palette brochure) thus giving us the opportunity to look for a suitable color. He was very aware of the weather and was very easy to contact to schedule an ideal time frame for the job. The painting team worked efficiently and was able to take care of the job in 2 days as stated! The outcome was beautiful, durable, and refined.
