This is their original store opened in 1996. It's known for Taiwanese-style baked goods, cakes, and popular bento boxes. JJ Bakery has expanded to multiple Southern California locations. We have been going to this location for years. Their breads are fresh, soft, and fluffy. The egg tarts are Taiwanese-style pastry tarts, they are so creamy and not overly sweet. Their pork and vegetable buns are light and healthy, not oily or salty at all. This is my favorite place to get the sesame mochi, just the right texture and sweetness! Their Hokkaido chiffons are very soft and creamy, my mom's favorite. The store is small but clean. Service is on point. Ample parking as it's located in a big plaza. read more

Lots of selection of baked goods , I usually get the baked crispy curry beef in the hot section. They also have bento boxes sometimes if they get deliveries that are typical Taiwanese dishes type. Cakes they have plenty of selection of sizes and flavors. you can also order a special crispy flaky centered sponge cake in half sheet and full sheet sizes. It is a crowd favorite among older population and those especially watching their sugar levels, need to be ordered at least 24 hours in advanced. They usually don't open until 730am which I think is a missed opportunity as there is an unmentioned bakery competitor that opens at 7am and they get many more customers in that time period, because hey working people have to work right????? and no seating area, so you will walk and eat your breads or eat your breads in the car and spill your crumbs everywhere. 3/16/25 Our Friends got us these wonderful delicious, delightful desserts for our birthdays! Yum! Tiramisu for Lei & Strawberry Cream Chantilly cake for me. It was a complete surprise & we all shared it among our group, all 9 of us. I especially loved the presentation, the box & the gift bag was a very nice touch. The strawberry was creamy & refreshing, the cake itself is spongy, moist. The Tiramisu is equally good, both were not too sweet. Additionally, got a box of cream puff that were delicately packaged individually in its own small carton. Again, love the attention to detail. Came here to get some pastries for my friend's birthday. I am a sucker for Crème Brûlée and definitely this is not a place to get them. I requested them to torch more on top for more crispy and caramelized. Their Crème Brûlée was so dense not for my liking and it doesn't crack the top when you spoon in. It didn't have a smooth texture. I bought six for my friends and family. I couldn't finish 1/2 and the family didn't care for it either. Hugely disappointed. I was craving cream puffs so I wanted to go somewhere local so I decided to go to this place after reading The reviews. The environment was amazing very friendly service. I ate nearby and saw this JJ's so stopped by to buy some bread for breakfast. The selection wasn't as plentiful as other JJ's though I did come pretty late at like 4 pm. During the pandemic, my friend told me, that they have bento boxes Taiwanese Style. Thereafter I have bought these bentos boxes for convenience. I have had fish, minced pork ... bentos. They were all good, except the Fish bento. I don't know why it is sweetened. They have limited numbers of bentos for the day, by 2 pm, these bentos were usually gone. Today, I picked up a pork belly rice bento, it was my first bento since I came back from Taiwan a week ago, I found JJ Taiwanese bentos are as good as bentos in Taiwan. The milk tea was a little strong for me, the couple cookies were very good, and the strawberry mochi was very good! The strawberries were very fresh, and it was just overall very delicious! At times, I forget that this JJ Bakery location exists, because I am not in the area all too often. Though I am reminded, by family members, that this JJ Bakery location has been here for quite a long time - of course, having been remodeled throughout the years. Due to my route, I tend to visit the JJ Bakery on Gale more often than other JJ locations, and especially since they have a restaurant as well and a few items that not all JJ Bakeries offer. The bread selection is not much as the JJ on Gale, but it has the basics. Though I was questioning (in my head) of the freshness of the bread on the shelves, I was quickly mistaken when I took a bite into the breads that we purchased. The filling and the ingredients here, were actually better than at other locations, surprisingly. The store itself is a bit on the small side, but it serves its purpose. I will most definitely visit again as the quality feels better than other locations. Service was great, especially since we were the only ones in there. Parking was easy and the bread were great! In this economy, I think that's pretty good, considering how other bakeries charge significantly more. I will say that their cakes contain a lot of whipped cream, so you're really getting a ratio of half cake and half whipped cream. I'm a big fan of JJ Bakery. They have lots of locations, but you know you'll find lots of choices of nice airy flaky barely-sweet breads along with a few sweeter denser options as well. The fruit-covered cakes look amazing, but we've never tried those out. This Hacienda Heights location is relatively small compared to their others, but they manage to pack a lot of tasty choices in, no problem. The staff was constantly bringing fresh pastries out and were friendly and got me checked out and out the door as soon as I was able to make up my mind on just how many delicious treats I was going to be taking with me. read more

This location is conveniently located to my house just a few blocks away. On Saturday mornings I would come in and get a dozen curry buns right when they came out. I brought them to my store and gave them out to my employees. They stayed hot for a long time. Amazing. That is my fond memory. Today, JJ's is thriving. They now have several locations across the country. it's nice to see an Asian chain have that kind of success. I am visiting here now and have come back to reminisce in that experience. Although they did not have the curry buns, the selection is many and hard to decide. We do manage to make our decisions for just a few delectable treats. Service is the same as before, mechanically robotic empty of emotion. At this time, I don't care. Luckily, the new one in Honolulu is full of excellent service. Their breads are good, yes, but that's because it's loaded with yummy (fatty) ingredient like butter, sugar, and cream... I've been going to this bakery ever since I was little and although I prefer their cakes to neighboring bakeries, such as 85 degrees, they need a lot of work in the customer service department. I know it's not uncommon for Asian establishments to have bad customer service due to language barriers, but this particular JJ Bakery takes it to a whole other level. Every time I go, the two ladies that work there are always rushing me into making a decision (and I'm not the type who is slow when deciding what I want).
