I've been in Rockport about 5 years now and had never had the opportunity to visit. Today was a perfect day to adventure out. Great little hideaway place next to Walmart. Nothing fancy loved the ambiance. Immediately greeted and self select of a table. A little bit of a wait for menus and drink orders buts that's okay, Rockport is a laid back place on my opinion. I had the 2-egg (choice of scrambled) with hash browns and choice of meat-Canadian Bacon and toast, I chose an English Muffin. My husband had the grits but asked for Catfish instead of Shrimp and they obliged. Thank you Chef!! Overall I enjoyed my first experience at JJ's and will most definitely return for lunch. I visited this restaurant in the north part of town on a busy Sunday. There were about 20 people already waiting outside when I arrived. I had called 30 mins prior but they do not do reservations but I gave them my info over the phone anyway. Upon arrival, I did get seated rather quickly with my group of 8, but that's not why I took off 2 stars. This would have been a 3.5 star restaurant because the food was good when it finally came out, but the key word is finally. Once we ordered, it took about 1 hour for the food to even come out. For a small breakfast restaurant this is just ridiculous. We saw 2-3 other tables that arrived after us that received their food. It tells me they either only have 1 person in the kitchen, or they're not prepared for a Sunday crowd. Either way, they're were not prepared. Our group ordered both lunch and breakfast items but based on the foods that were coming from the kitchen, they chose to only cook the breakfast items and bring those to other tables. I chose the chicken fried steak since the menu indicated it was hand-breaded. I picked Texas toast as my bread, and green beans and mashed potatoes as my sides, expecting them to be basically canned and powdered potatoes. The sides ended up being fresh green beans cooked well done with caramelized onions which were very flavorful. The potatoes were homemade as well with cream gravy, but needed some additional seasoning. The rest of my group loved their food too, as all 7 other plates were cleaned with no food left. Just when we thought we were in the clear it was time to pay. Well, that didn't go all that well either. Our waitress was busy bringing orders out and catering to another newly seated table and going back and forth to the kitchen getting them anything and everything to go along with their meal, meanwhile we had our check ready and she bypassed our table 2-3 times and didn't look our way. I didn't want to be rude since she was nice, but she was in over her head and beyond busy apparently. Three stars is being nice here, but we did like the food....so that's their saving grace. read more

We have lived in Rockport for a year now and I would imagine I have frequented this establishment probably 30 times during that year. Always great service, excellent food and great prices. Guess something has changed. That all got ruined by one rude employee today. Came in this morning at 10:10 and ordered a migas breakfast plate to share. The waitress asked us if we wanted flour or corn tortilla(s)! I said can we have both please. She said I will have to charge you for the extra tortilla. I'm sure she knew I looked astounded but I said how much is a tortilla. Response: I don't know I would have to ring it up to know that... I simply said if it's more than a dollar for a tortilla I don't want it and I did say charging for a tortilla with migas is nuts as she walked off. So it's now 10:40, keep in mind no meat in the micas only onions, tomatoes and eggs. The onions were huge and raw, so 25 minutes to basically cook two scrambled eggs. There were only two other tables with customers so they were not busy at all. Never had that happen here before but just wait. Food comes and The server sets down the plate with one flour tortilla and an aluminum roll with two more corn tortillas, ok that's good. She adds, I just went ahead and brought you a couple corn tortillas at no charge. Didn't mention "paying" for them for us! We thanked her and went about splitting and eating our breakfast. About that time another server walks over, not the owner, not the owners daughter but just another server and says directly to me in a very condescending and rude tone " your server was nice enough to PAY for your extra tortillas but in the future don't expect that to happen ever again"! Wtf! She felt the need to come over and try to shame me over a freaking tortilla that was none of her business to begin with. I responded don't worry about it because I will never be back! I then asked to speak to the owners, weren't there but daughter of owner was. Explained the situation and while she was apologetic for the rude waitress she also tried to add about the economy and blah blah blah but seriously. We all know the economy sucks but charging more than $1 for a tortilla that they sell at Walmart next door for $2.99 for a 20 pack. Give me a break. So will not be returning to or promoting this breakfast/lunch spot to any more of my visiting friends, family or my community. I guess JJ's is off our list. It's a shame too. read more

Came in on a Sunday, wasn't too awfully busy. We was seated right away, but had to wait awhile for our drink order. We had to wait at least 45 min for our food, 2 other customers got their food order before we did. When we finally got our food it was cold. I mentioned it to our waitress, she offered to take the onion straws back to "reheat them in the fryer" WHAT??? UMMM NO! I had her just to return the food, i was not going to eat it. She did so with attitude. Well, so sorry, I'm not going to spend my money on cold food, and especially not on something reheated. I will definitely not go back. So, unless you want to wait awhile to get your food, and then receive cold food once you get it, and have a waitress wirh an attitude, then, this is your place to go! This place has definitely gone downhill since the owner passed, it is not the same anymore. read more

This is one of our go-to restaurants whenever we are in Rockport. We love their breakfast sandwiches served on a sourdough bun. Only drawback is ( like most restaurants in the area) they are only open on certain days. read more

After a weekend of fishing, we went to JJ's Cafe for a big breakfast before heading back to Austin, and we were not disappointed. We were immediately greeted and seated, and hot coffee, that was very much needed, was immediately brought to us. One of my sons had the JJ's House Omelet with hash browns and toast. The other son had Texas fried steak with two eggs, hash browns, toast, and then a short stack of pancakes. I had the two porkchops with two eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit. All of the food was deliciously prepared, very filling, and our coffee cups were never empty. As good as the food was, the service was even better! We will definitely be coming back here every time we visit Rockport! read more

This cafe did not disappoint at all. We got there and we were immediately seated since we requested outside seating. Every waitperson who attended to us was very friendly. From the young woman who took our order, to the women who brought our meals and bussed our table. The food was delicious! We went with the biscuits and gravy which had lots of flavor, corn beef hash and eggs and the pancakes with bacon, hash and eggs. Every entree we ordered was very good. Dogs are allowed in their outdoor dining area. Wish I had known this before hand. It would have been nice to have our dog with us. At any rate, my husband and I were really happy with the choice we made for our breakfast. I have no doubt you'll feel the same way if you decide to given this place a try. read more

I had such high hopes for JJ's Cafe. The Yelp photos made it look like the perfect spot for diner food. Unfortunately it was just sub-par. Hashbrows were okay - could've been crisped up a bit more. Scrambled eggs were just a clump of egg. Wait staff was nice, and helpful. Let's talk about the prices - for what we got, it's pricey. For 2 people we left with a $28 bill before the credit card fee. To-go cups are 35 cents as well. One thing I did like was that they have a dog-friendly patio. read more

I went to JJ's for breakfast because it had good reviews. I walked in and was seated about 5 mins later so not bad at all. However that's the last good thing I have to say. 10 mins later I got a waitress who wasn't mine come by to take my drink order and about another 5 mins later my waitress came and took my order. I didn't order anything out of the ordinary, just two eggs with cheese, hashbrowns and bacon. I saw other people who came in after me get sat and served and meanwhile I still had no food and no one came by and gave me an update or checked on me to see if I needed anything else. It had been over 30 mins and I was close to walking out and my food finally came. The hashbrowns were decent but the eggs were rubbery and way overdone. When I used my fork to grab a piece it all came up as a whole. I pushed them to the side and finally when my waitress came around to ask I told her about the eggs which she did offer to have remade but I honestly didn't want to wait another 30 mins so I declined and told her I would just eat my hashbrowns and bacon. When she brought me the bill she had taken off 20 % for the eggs which was nice but overall I left pretty disappointed. I enjoyed the very delicious patty melt with a side of sauteed squash! Totally yummy! Hubs ordered the lunch meatloaf with mashed and corn. It was only slightly less awesome as it was a bit dry and had a chunky tomato topping. None the less we ate every bite so was still great. He said next time he would just ask for brown gravy on top. Super cool that they had a salad bar open - have been missing that since COVID. They provided disposable gloves to use while serving yourself. Great touch! In a town littered with 3 star experiences, JJ's breakfast is a standout for their service, the food quality and value. We've tried the eggs benedict, the BYO omlette, the shrimp and grits and #2 eggs over easy and several other dishes - and they never disappoint.
