Went for a Sunday drive and stopped at Jo Jo's for a late lunch (2:00pm). We were seated promptly by a friendly young lady. We had a beautiful view of the river. The restaurant is fairly large and roomy. I had catfish and a baked potato, beans and hushpuppies. Everything was tasty and hot! My husband had the AYCE popcorn shrimp and fries. His was piping hot as well and he said very tasty. He really enjoyed the pickled tomatoes. I would have had a salad but the salad didn't look the freshest and had a limited variety. I understand.....groceries are expensive. Would eat here again when in the area. P.S.- I'm very picky when it comes to fish. If I bite into a piece that has that strong fishy taste, I'm pretty well done! No bad taste to their fish at all. We went to JoJo's on Mother's Day. We were seated right away and had our drinks served and order taken in a reasonable amount of time. The sides and hush puppies came out a few minutes later. Then we waited... and we waited...and we waited. After waiting an hour (actually 59 minutes. I know this because we were getting ready to walk out) our food finally came... warm but not hot. So, apparently we weren't kept waiting for our food to be cooked and if you're going to keep customers waiting that long, you'd better make sure the food is fresh and hot. The only explanations offered were, "we're really busy" and "they're doing the best they can." Those aren't explanations, they're excuses (and excuses are like belly buttons, everyone's got one and they're useless). The only reason I gave two stars is because the food tasted okay. read more

The catfish at Jojo's isn't bad, but for a place that brags about their "farm-raised" catfish being the best in the U.S., it didn't quite live up to the hype. It could definitely use more seasoning. The hush puppies were a bit of a letdown too. On the plus side, I thought it was interesting that every meal comes with beans, pickled green tomatoes, and coleslaw -- definitely a unique touch. Today is Monday. According to Yelp JoJo's is closed today. However, I am currently enjoying a wonderful catfish dinner with a view of the river. Perfect meal for a "closed " restaurant. The service is excellent. Our waitress , Heather, checked on us often and gave refills without us having to ask. The fish was perfectly prepared and the traditional sides were delicious as well. I particularly liked the tartar sauce. The atmosphere is homey. The staff made everyone welcome. Just not that great. Right on the river and part of a fishing resort. Usually that means they'll have good fish. When we got out of the car we could smell the fish grease. In general if frying grease is well maintained you shouldn't smell it in the parking lot. We eat catfish everywhere we go and probably have eaten at at least 30 catfish restaurants. This one is near the bottom of the list. The best items were the hush puppies and the beans. Fries were pretty elderly and limp. Catfish was didn't have a lot of taste and I would swear it was prebreaded/frozen. Slaw tasted like it came right out of the food service bucket. We were there on a Saturday night about 8 pm and the dining room was almost empty. Makes me wonder if something is changing with this place. read more

I've been told over and over again that I MUST try this place. My wife isn't into fried foods but I convinced her it was on the Mountain View bucket list... Wow, was I disappointed. It all started out with the waitress telling us that she doesn't work there... then she clarified... very often. The fish was very grey and greasy. The little filets were tiny and all curled up into an over cooked crispy chunk of greasy folded up fish. The hush puppies... my wife thought they were decent, I on the other hand did not. If your thing is Fried Catfish you absolutely must "Nail it" when making fried catfish and hush puppies. The hush puppies were small, fried hard and super plain. No jalapeño, no sweet flavor, no special sauce to open up the flavors, nothing really that will bring me back again. My kid had "Chicken Strips" which looked oddly like two fried chicken breasts from a frozen bag. However, my wife and I ate that kids meal and left our food on the table. I literally took one nibble off of one filet and left the rest of my entire meal on the table when we left. Wife says her BLT came with a bag of shredded lettuce, one little tomato, and leftover bacon from breakfast that was microwaved. She said she was amazed that one could mess up a meal that had three basic ingredients... bacon, lettuce, tomato. What a $50 disappointment. read more

We walked over for the Catfish Lunch Special. I ordered the 3 piece Catfish with Fries, Slaw, Pinto Beans and Tomato Relish. My wife ordered the Salad Bar and the Catfish Sandwich. Our server, Mary, started us off by brining us a basket filled with fresh fried, small lightly battered Hush Puppies. They were melt in your mouth good. It was like eating popcorn. The Catfish Filets were very lightly battered and were as tasty as we've ever had. We ate till we were so full we had to ask for togo boxes. My wife and I I are staying a couple of nights t the motel, and every time we walked out if our room, the smell was calling our names! So, after reading the reviews, we just had to check out the hushpuppies, and boy, they didn't disappoint! They actually are the best we've ever eaten! I ordered the tadpole (2catfish), and my wife had the hamburger steak with sautéed onions, mushrooms, and brown gravy, with the salad bar and a baked potato. Everything was delicious! We've been to Jo Jo's many times while visiting family. I always order the beans and hushpuppies. The beans weren't seasoned quite as well this time but still enjoyed them. We tried the possum pie which we liked. We were very disappointed to learn that fried pies are no longer being served due to not having a dedicated fryer for the pies. Maybe Jo Jo's will get a fryer just for the fried pies?? We went back a 2nd time for a burger and enjoyed the burger. We tried the peanut butter pie which was good but it doesn't compare to the fried pies. read more

We came here for lunch on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded. There is plenty of parking though in a make shift lot where you can pretty much park wherever you want. It is a sit down restaurant that has a view of the river and a boat rental place down below. Their setting is not formal at all and there were a lot of kids there. There is a playground outside that I believe is shared with the lodging that is offered onsite. The salad bar is in a canoe, which I thought was a fun touch. The things in the salad bar are not that great, but it looks cool. Our server was great though, and even brought out from the kitchen what they grill the fish in. We got the catfish lunch and popcorn shrimp. It was decent, but nothing amazing. Given the area, this is a good place to eat. read more

Not many restaurants serve soup & raw onions with the meal. Also, they serve a large portion pickled tomatoes! Restaurants these days serve 1 Oz. pickled tomatoes And charge 40 cents for another 1 Oz. The tables are clean & the temperature perfect! The view is awesome!! Everything needed a little more salt, but other than that it was a cheap, and delicious meal! First of all, the portions were HUGE. To start, they brought us out a basket of delicious hush puppies to share, and each of us bowls of green tomato relish (vinegary and spicy!) and pinto beans (great flavor, just needed more salt. We both ordered catfish and it was served with fries & coleslaw. I don't like coleslaw, but the fries and the fish were so delicious (once I added more salt). The fish had a thin outer coating, so it was the perfect amount of crispiness and flaky fish. And once I added more salt, the fries were right up there as some of the best I've ever had. SO crispy and golden on the outside, and soft on the inside. I hate that we were too full after our meals to have dessert, because everything looked delicious, and the lady at the next table was really enjoying her pie... but oh well. My wife and I decided to try jojo's restaurant last night, 12-18-2020. We both ordered their Ribeye, medium rare, no sides because I'm on a special diet and don't eat processed foods. The ribeyes came out quick however upon arriving we noticed a slight smell of something off. Like a heavy Worcestershire sauce or some kind of marinade. First bite of the ribeye and we could taste the Worcestershire sauce, as if the meat soaked in it for hours. Within a couple bites more I started getting spoiled meat flavors and about gagged. When I called the waitress over, (a extremely lovely, helpful young lady), I asked about the "marinade" that was not mentioned on the menu nor by her when we ordered. The waitress was surprised and explained that is was NOT common practice to marinade their ribeyes but the owner was there and she'd go ask about it. Well, the waitress came back after a fast conversation with the lady setting two tables away. "That is the owner", she said, with a look of embarrassment. It seems the owner of JoJo's didn't have the time to address her kitchen soaking their ribeyes in Worcestershire sauce to mask the fact the meat was spoiled!!! Not to mention she offered NO resolution nor did she even investigate or acknowledge our concerns about being served a $30 spoiled ribeye!! Gross food, horrible lack of responsibility from the owner and obviously ZERO quality control. In short,,, If you like spending $30 per ribeye, soaked in Worcestershire sauce to mask the fact the meat is spoiled, you're in luck, you can get it at JoJo's!!! And the fact the owner did NOTHING to make things right! No apology, offer to replace or even take it off the bill solidified us never supporting them again. (Over 3/4 of the steaks were uneaten). Update,,, Wife and I both ended up sick with food poisoning within hours of leaving, confirming the sleazy behavior of JoJo's serving tainted meat! read more
