All the ladies I've run into behind the register are always very nice and display a positive attitude. That goes a long way with me. I can't really comment much on the amenities for truck drivers because I don't drive a truck. I do however see a lot of big rigs there so I assume things are decent. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try, by the way if you're looking for jerky they got a whole wall full of it.

The decor and overall atmosphere give it a unique feel that sets it apart from the big chain stops. Paid parking usually means the facilities are a step above, and that's definitely the case here. The property is well maintained, and it shows. A couple of minor issues kept it from being perfect. One of the washers was out of service during our visit, and the large pothole at the second entrance needs attention. Other than that, this is a great place to stop for a reset, a shower, a meal, or an overnight break. We'd happily stop here again.

In this case i was torturing myself wondering how to ever get out from under the weight of family responsibility. There are good things about family life I'm sure many of you will say, but if I had my choice in the matter I'd much prefer to have been grafted somehow. That seems like the only way to avoid long term association with members of a nuclear, animal family who no longer share your interests, location or recent history. Dogs do it better, seems like to me. Anyway, it may not be easy for most to understand why I find Mexican food to be such a relief at times like this. Carne asada is better than 'script drugs to kick the blues when thinking existentially in the abstract as I seem to do a lot, especially here. Tranqs, ssri or whatever they're giving you now to up your dopamine, latest fad drugs hawked by psychopharmacologists, wouldn't put a dent in the downer that comes from being in this area of texas. You'd need a dose of snow if that was your direction. Still, with a brother in the local hospital scheduled for some fairly serious carving to be done on him in a day or so, finding a new place to review in this miserable town was a real and much needed upper. That it was a never reviewed newish Mexican joint made it manna from heaven (wondering now that i mention it why no restaurant has ever made a signature dish of "manna" whatever that is or was. Somebody please do a search and let me know, i'm game for it). So this place almost didn't look open at 3 pm, only two other patrons there plus a crew of women doing whatever. the largish dining area had many empty seats, and the room isn't well lit. Two of the crew seemed beat to me, one by way of example was not even wearing shoes. Downtrodden from recent arrival here, and maybe a bit shy as their english was still a work in progress. So the menu is in one of my photos, the only copy being pinned to the wall and no others to distribute or take home, or at least none was presented to me. Simply walk up to the window in back and place your order. Up front there is a more colorful version on the wall but it's not where you place your order nor are there any serving people in the front. Today's special was "caldo de res" better known in california as "cocido" for farmworker lunches, or in some cases it might even be birria if it were dinner. Short ribs in broth with a chunk or two of carrot, cabbage, potato. I can always go for a bowl of cocido due to its elegant simplicity, which is not all that easy to replicate by the way. But then I noticed mole de pollo on the permanent list, and i asked if the mole was ground back there in the kitchen: answer, si and that was that. nothing better than to compare one homemade mole with others I have known before, how much and even what kind of bitter cocoa beans, level of chili heat, any unusual aromatic spice besides the usual cinnamon clove cumin, nuts?, how sweet, maybe citrus juice vs vinegar, etc etc. if it weren't mexican, mole could in my opinion compete with many other culinary high pedigree sauces to accompany chicken or pork, maybe even beef. but no, it's "just" mexican. a real enthusiast could probably raise the stature of mole if more focus were made on its origins which are pre-columbian. works for all kind of pottery after all. so as usual after all this there's not much i have to add about the food itself. there is this, however: for one, the price of this entree was only $9. And two, there are as usual the incomparable touches that only a sparse and get down to it restaurant run by recent folks from latin america can offer. there's an incredibly interesting speaker in the rear corner that is just such a touch. (i have an mp4 that would add multimedia to this review but so far i can't upload it.) this unusual device in itself was enough to raise my spirits if not provoke a bit of joy in its discovery, as nothing else might have done this day, and i invite you to examine the design for its utterly incomprehensible ornamentation. i got the same feeling looking at this that i get when i see a most likely latino driver demonstrating his lowrider's ability to rear up on its hind wheels as if it were some sort of mechanical equine. all in all i can only say in my own behalf as a terribly scattered and broken individual pretending to be a critical reviewer here that i suppose you might assume, having bothered to go this far writing about it, and secondly having rated it quite high on yelp's richter scale, that i think this place is very well worth your time, if not for mole then for the gorditas and if not for them then at least for the music system. But seriously it is the food, and especially so the mole if you've never had it anywhere before.

I love their street tacos carne asada, it's like eating from a taco truck in Guadalajara, Mexico. You can pair your tacos with their Mexican soft drinks literally in a glass bottle. You can have horchata or hibiscus tea. The breads? Freshly baked bread which is just .99 cents each. What more can you ask for? They have tres leches slices , flans.... All the postres you see in a carneceria! Their produce are always fresh , the meats I'm not a fan of but all the grocery items that you need and want are available. They even have some merchandise that you can only find there like authentic tortillas warmers, clay pots and plates. Ooohhhh, not to mention their Salvadoriqn Chorizos. I love that! Not to mention their freshly made tortillas which you can purchase at any given time! I also have tried their tamales , they are good and seasoned well. When the person selling you donuts is friendly and proud of the donuts being sold, that makes a great donut taste even better, right? Kim's Donuts has spectacular donuts at very low prices, a friendly owner, and that old, well-worn donut shop vibe. My wife and I stopped in on a recent morning and bought a half dozen donuts, along with some generously thrown in donut holes. We ordered a plain cake donut, an old-fashioned, a mini-cinnamon roll donut, a plain glazed, an apple fritter, and a chocolate frosted sprinkle donut. The plain cake donut, ate early in the morning, was a revelation. It's hard to find a perfectly executed cake donut- subtly crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside. Her plain cake donut checked these boxes. Phenomenal. The mini-cinnamon roll donut was delicious. Quality cinnamon, pleasantly sweet, just amazing. The apple fritter was good, as were the donut holes. The others, I shared with my wife and son, who both heartily enjoyed their donuts. If you are anywhere around Commerce and want to savor some awesome donuts, stop by Kim's. This shop is the real deal.

If you need a newspaper for a bird to poop on or another reason there are machines out front selling several papers. It is a good little store, they sell some large lively worms for fish bait. There is also a grill behind the cash register where they are making food. We did not try it, but there was almost always someone calling in an order when we were there.
