While traveling in Rhode Island we had a sudden hankering for New Haven Apizza, so what do you do?! YELP!! Newish Joe's had the top recommendation around. We headed over after 9 (Sunday). It's tiny! However, super stylish & cute. How is the food? Well...AmAzInG! After speaking briefly with staff, we got chose garlic knots and a large meat pizza. First the garlic knots: small little bites with side gravy. These knots are the stuff of Italian dreams! I have never had anything like it! Small, crisp on outside, perfectly baked doughy inside. I could hardly stop myself eating all of them!! But, pizza to come! This pizza is a nice crisp New Have style char, albeit slightly thicker and more doughy. The sauce has a slight sophisticated spice edge to it, real Italian flavor gourmand perfection! I could eat this every week! Owner chef happily at work, chatted us up with his style and food creations. All great, he's a true talent. This place punches WELL above its wait. I expect they will need to expand, shortly. On those rare occasions where you try a place on a whim and you were just blown away, it is difficult to put a review towards. As a wonderful day due to a close, I was craving pizza. I looked on yelp and found some excellent reviews for Joe's pizza in Warwick. It was down near the airport and not far from where I was and so I decided to give it a try. I could end this review by just saying that this place is amazing. But then, that would not be true to form for me so here goes. This is a small place with a tiny parking lot. Few nice tables outside and a counter inside and the rest is where they make the pizza there is also a downstairs where they do the prep. The place is immaculate and all the ingredients are on display. Several pizzas in their case for slice reheats. If you weren't hungry when you came in, you will be when you look at these pizzas. They offer two types of crust, New York and New Haven. The New York Pizza is simply what most people just called pizza. New Haven crust is usually unique to the restaurant. I am used to the apizza crust of some of the famous restaurants in New Haven, so admit that I am partial to those. I still decided to order the New Haven pizza to see what Joe, the owner, had come up with. Joe worked at Jeff's Pizza in East Providence which for all those pizza lovers around here now some of the best pizza in New England. Personally I am not a fan of sourdough crust, which is the only thing that can't move from being a regular there. But they were meticulous about all of their ingredients for both fresh and flavor which resulted in some of the most outstanding pizza you will ever taste. That foundation, Joe opened his own place and has come up with his own recipe for crust, which I have to say is absolutely amazing in flavor. This will now be my go to pizza place whenever I am in the area. I have to start with the garlic knots and call them out. I have a garlic knots before, including some places which claimed to have the best garlic knots ever. They did not, Joe's does. These are absolutely delicious and they served with a Sunday sauce which just augments the flavor. The portion is huge for the price and they are so tasty. I could go here just for these. But I would not want to miss these pizzas. I can't yet say that I've tasted them all, but I can highly recommend the Polpette Rustica (Meatball Pizza). Freshly made meat topped with mozzarella, whipped Ricotta cheese and basil, this is, in my opinion, the penultimate of pizza. I personally could not imagine a better seasoned flavor and loved every bite. I also tried a slice of the margherita pizza. Completely different, but equally wonderful flavor. I have to say that I will be running back. The meatballs were so good. I am even stopping in for a meatball sandwich. This is without a doubt, the best pizza restaurant in Rhode Island and I look forward to many visits. Highly recommended. read more

Online order...ready on time. This place is compact Italian dynamite! Small, bustling with good energy. I got a basic Italian pie -New Haven style. Drizzled with evo, topped with fresh grated cheese and ripped basil. Very light. Very delicious. (lose the jarred minced garlic) On to my specialty... the meatball. I was not disappointed... it was good. Marinara a bit loose but good. The cannoli! I'm not a big fan of cannolis because most of the time they're filled with crap. This one had a delicious ricotta with pistachio filling. It was excellent. My one criticism would be the chocolate that it was dipped in could have been a better quality. I will be back! read more

Absolutely delicious! We really had high hopes because gooood pizza can be hard to come by. We do have some favorite spots but we are so happy to add another (and local!) to the list. Joe is known for his food trucks so that was my only honest hesitation. But what a ridiculous thought I hate to admit to. This is not food truck pizza! We tried both the New Haven and NY style crust and both were just delectable. The char on the New Haven was my favorite. I tried to get pics of the whole pies but my family was digging in quicker than I could get my phone in hand. Prices are a bit higher than the average local pizza place but you get what you're paying for. If you want good pizza, go get some. My mouth is still a little zesty from the Il Dolce Diavola -Sweet and Spicy slice but the smooth, creamy ricotta and savory meatball on the Polpette Rustica gave it a nice balance. And we ordered a cheese, too, simply because it's the easiest pizza to judge a good place on. Let me just say - I was hopeful to have more leftovers than we landed with! Ha! I'm beyond ecstatic he's really succeeding in his new venture. While I haven't met him personally, Joe is a community staple, supporting local first responders and non-profits. I wasn't expecting the meatball to be the hit that it was. What an amazing job with this pizza. The meatballs are incredible, the sauce is great, and the ricotta cheese is a perfect addition, which is a very high quality ricotta. Dolce Diavola was also very good, but I didn't find it spicy. The pepperoni was very good and cupped just the way you dream about. The inside of Joe's is very clean, lively, hip, and colorful. Parking is limited so plan to pickup on time. I had a 25 min ride home and I did heat the pizza back up a little after my first piece and the flavors explode when the temperature is correct. read more

RI: The Pizza State's Lauren and I met up with Chris and Britt from Cowesett Pizza to check out Joe's Pizza in Warwick. New spot. Wood-fired oven. Lots of buzz online. This place is TINY. Four seats if you're friendly with strangers. We grabbed the corner by the window and watched a steady line of customers walk in, order, or pick up the entire time we were there. Not a "we just opened" curiosity line. A "people drove here on purpose" line. The space is clean and functional. Stone and brick exterior, exposed oven throwing heat you can feel from across the room, display case with slices and stromboli ready to go. Three parking spots out front. Maybe four if you're creative. Small operation. Knows what it is. Joe offers two dough options. The menu says "New York style" and "New Haven style" but that's not what they are. They're different hydrations. The New York option is chewier with good flavor. The New Haven option is thinner and more tender. Both work, just depends on what you're after. The pepperoni on the New York dough was the clear winner. Cups properly, gets those crispy edges with little pools of oil. I love them. The flavor shows up. The crust, sauce, and cheese all work together without any one thing trying to be the star. The sauce balances sweet, savory, and acidic. Both pies showed good leoparding from that wood-fired oven. I'd dial back the cheese a bit and add more sauce, especially on the New Haven pie. But that's preference, not a problem. The pepperoni is what you should order. The grilled chicken on the New Haven dough was fine. Moist. Properly cooked. But the chicken got a bit lost. Cut smaller and milder than I expected. Bigger chunks or bolder seasoning would give it more presence on the pie. Next time I'm going bolder. Pepperoni and olives. Pepperoni and meatballs. Something with more punch. Get the garlic knots. Spectacularly good. That same dough, nice and hot, crispy on the outside with that perfect chew inside. They'd be perfect with a side of that tomato sauce for dipping, but even without it, start with these. Joe just opened and this is already becoming a destination pizza. Person after person walked out with two, three, four pies. You don't see that at a new place unless something's working. This pizza is legit. Joe knows his oven. If you're in Warwick or willing to make the trip, it's well worth your time. read more

I had seen a lot of hype about this place online so when my friend suggested we go there for dinner one night, I immediately said yes. The place is tiny, but in a cozy way. They have the most random decor and books stashed in every nook and it gave the place a character and personality you don't often see in spots like this. While there is a small area of counter seating, this really is a take out spot. The woman at the register was very friendly and super patient with us as we figured out what we wanted. They offer two styles here, New Haven and New York. We like both so we got one of each, chicken New Haven and a Pepperoni NY style. Plus an order of garlic knots because my rule of thumb is, no matter where you are, order the garlic knots The garlic knots came out first. Warm, chewy, you can taste the flavor of the pizza dough they used to make them. I wish I had thought to ask for a side of sauce, that was the one thing I was missing to make it a 10/10. Then came the pizzas. The NY style was crispy, chewy. It had nice char from the oven. The sauce was excellent, a balance in acidity and sweetness. Although it was thinner and chewier than what I think of as NY style, it was very good. The New Haven lacked a little for me personally. The crust was thicker than traditional NH and very tender to the bite. While delicious, it missed the mark for me on what I consider a NH style. Probably an off day. Overall though I would say the NY style lived up to the hype of being an excellent pie, so highly recommend if you're in the area to try! read more

Great pizza! Not greasy or chewy. New Haven style is my favorite but New York style is good if you don't like pizza "well done". Tastes healthy and not "bad for you" pizza. The place is cute and the staff is very nice. The only thing I will say is that we put our order in online and it gave us 1:30 pickup and I was told it was going to be another 20mins when I went to pick it up. They were running behind and there were a lot of waiting for their order so I get it. We went at 2 to pick it up and my pizzas were ready for pickup. Being a football sunday and lunch time I understand them getting backed up with orders. Maybe call before going to see if the online pickup time is accurate. Will definitely get again! read more

Had to see if the hype was real. The pizzas smelled so good on the way home. Got a NY a New Haven style-to be honest, I really couldn't tell what the difference was but I preferred the meatball and that I ordered New Haven style so I guess I like that better. Place is tiny-layout is a little wonky and crowded. Fresh quality ingredients were used and the flavors were great. They also serve slices. Staff very friendly! WOW! incredible food! Crust has great taste and perfect texture.... awesome quality food.... bursts with flavor. My husband and I had spinach, calamata olives, sweet Italian sausage and cheese "pinwheels" while we waited for our pizza... OMG we both loved them.. ate every crumb. Took our pizza home devoured 2 pieces each and we have found our new favorite place. We don't have the extra money to eat out often so we look for all the qualities this place has.... including 2 of the most friendly owners. also the place itself is so comfortable. The New Haven Style Margarita pizza was delicious. Highly recommend. Losing a star for the chopped Italian sandwich. What a surprise, that it was no where near an Italian, nor was it chopped. It contained only pepperoni slices for the meat, lettuce, tomato an cucumber. Very odd and was a waste of money. Be prepared the wait time is 1.5+ hours but the pizza was definitely worth it.
