Solo diner review: I visited Joelia in October of 2025 and enjoyed a wonderfully hospitable evening with gracious service and delicious food.
First, the location is prime. The restaurant is on the first floor of the Rotterdam Hilton, close to the main shopping areas, city hall, and the train station. As someone who was traveling from afar, I really appreciated that I was able to make my reservation far in advance of my visit!
On to the food! Flavors were rich, but restrained. I loved the local venison tartare, the langoustine, and the blood orange dessert (very cautiously described in English by a server concerned the "blood" description couldn't be a correct translation, LOL). The sauces were the stars of the show, so delicate and deeply layered.
The dining room is stunning and earthy with natural edged tables, high gloss finishes, and greens and browns throughout. Music is moody and recognizable internationally. My favorite side quest was down the spiral staircase to the basement bathroom. The women's toilet was FULLY STOCKED with period products -- how thoughtful!
My hat is off to the team at Joelia and I'd strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the city. read more
