We went here hoping it would be kind of like Joe's Pizza from New York, but it wasn't... it's just another guy named Joe with okay pizza.... sorry :/ I will say it looks like New York style since it's thin, but it honestly just wasn't the best. The slice I got seemed like it had been sitting out for a bit. They do warm it up when you order, but it still tasted kind of old. I got the New York cheese slice and the cheese was already a little crusted over, kind of oily and congealed, and reheating it just made the oil warmer instead of actually fixing it. We also got a pepperoni slice and a Sicilian slice, and those were just okay too. Nothing special. I even tried to make it better myself by adding more parmesan and red pepper flakes, which helped a little, but honestly... I shouldn't have to workshop a slice of pizza like that. Also the workers kind of had an attitude... not rude-rude, but definitely not trying to talk, so I'd just keep it short with them. And slices are like $5-6 which honestly... I might expect that in New York, but for what we got, I wouldn't pay that again here. read more

Pizza pizza pizza!! this place was surprisingly excellent. I've ordered delivery from them several times - twice pepperoni, and the other times regular cheese with basil only one time I thought the amount of cheese could be a little bit more, but other than that, the crust has been perfectly baked, and the cheese quality and the tomato sauce were delicious!! read more

The place is nice. As the Halloween is coming up - the put up some spooky stuff around - looks good. Good lighting and atmosphere. A few tables to sit and enjoy your slice of pizza. Good music. As for the service - it's good. For a 5$ pizza slice very good - I sat down to wait for my slice and the guy even brought it to me! Very kind and thoughtful. Pizza itself was good. It's definitely more of a grab-and-go vibe with limited seating, so don't expect a big sit-down meal. But honestly, once you get that first bite, you won't care. The crust was perfectly crispy, not too thin, not too thick, and had that slight char that just hits right. The sauce had the perfect balance of tangy and slightly sweet, and the cheese? A great pizza spot in New York that I love going to and they've brought it to the west coast! As this location is down by third street, there is definitely an uptick in unhoused folks lurking around the restaurant. However, inside is clean and your classic pizza joint. The food was good but not amazing and there are definitely better places in Santa Monica to get a good slice. However, the Service is AWESOME! This place is local, causal, unassuming and fun. I love it. I got the pepperoni pizza, already made and ready to go. It didn't look like much but oh man, it was good. iIt was the sauce. The sauce is a little bit sweet and savory and has good flavor. It's NY style pizza, meaning thin crust. This place is open until midnight! I love that too. I mean, I was not expecting top-notch pizza. Me and my kids were just strolling down Santa Monica and wanted to grab a bite of something before hitting the beach. We found this pizza spot and decided to give it a shot. Right off the bat I knew this would be average at best, but I was surprised to find that this pizza was actually pretty decent. The slices are big, equivalent to 2 large Pizza Hut slices, and they tasted really good. My kids ate the entire slice, and I wanted another when I was done. Now, am I saying it's the best pizza around? No, of course not, but it was really good, and we enjoyed it. I don't understand the negative reviews because we really enjoyed it. Sure, the place is run-down and small, but it was good and worth many more trips in the future! My advice is to give it a shot for yourself. read more

Came with my partner and order two slices of pizza. My pizza was good and delicious, but my partner said his pizza wasn't very good. I did think the pepperoni was different and also extremely small. I usually think from Joe's the pepperoni would be bigger and better but I don't know. Service was fast. Ordered, paid, and ate. There's not much talking just saying what you want. Controlled chaos for two slices of pizza is a no go for me. Most of their proteins were not available so I settled for cheese and spinach. Good sized slices and amazing cheese to go along with a solid crust but I really wanted pepperoni and sausage. Service was meh and the ambiance was mediocre. I'm not a New Yorker, so I won't comment whether this pizza is an "authentic" New York slice, but I will say that I LOVED this spot when we tried it last night. We're new to the neighborhood so was on a sunset walk when we suddenly craved some pizza. My buddy suggested Joe's and I'm glad he did! When I imagine a local pizza spot, this is exactly what I imagine. A no thrills shop, efficient service, freshly baked pizza, and a decent amount of seating both inside and out on the patio. I tried their classic cheese x 2, and a pepperoni slice. They had some more adventurous flavors - but it felt right to start off with the classics. The pizza's are fresh baked, but they do warm it for you in the pizza oven upon ordering. The slices are a solid size, and for me, they were authentic - again, I'm not a New Yorker lol. Around dinner time, it does get busy, but service was decently quick so if you're in the area and craving some pizza, Joe's a good spot to try! read more

If you want garlic knots with the most watery marinara sauce you've ever had, you should order from joes pizza. I want downtown SM business to survive and do well, but there is absolutely no way that sauce was not filled with water before being sent out. They'll never survive except for the few tourist that happen to come here because there's nowhere else to eat downtown anymore. Pizza was mediocre. Go to prime pizza, they're awesome. read more

This place is awesome! This is a small restaurant with such good pizza. The people working there were really nice and got our slice out really quickly. This NYC pizza had such good undercarriage with such a good ratio of cheese to sauce to crust. The cheese was really cheesy but luckily not overpowering. It tastes like an authentic New York pizza and it's so good! I'm very surprised this place was not busy because this pizza is AMAZING. If you have a chance to go to Santa Monica you have to go try this pizza spot! read more

If you're near the pier or Promenade and looking for a solid slice that won't break the bank, Joe's is a good option. It's not the best pizza I've had (though I'm a bit biased after living in NYC and Chicago), but it does the job and is prepared quickly. There are a few tables inside and two or three outside, but it's honestly a great to-go place -- go take it and eat it overlooking the ocean! read more

Cheesy pizza comes steaming hot! It could be hard to find a good pizza in a tourist attraction place. No need to look further because Joe's pizza is the one. This was my first time trying this spot because a person from New York recommend this place. It's small shop a block away from the beach, but the pizzas are excellent! Suprised I haven't left a review for this place yet!! Suchhhh good thing crust pizza! The white Pizza and the cheese are my favorite! Piping hot and made fresh in house daily. They have slices and while pizzas. This place is definitely popular and for the most part always packed but their fast, efficient and friendly service is indeniable. Seating right outside the restaurant and a bit of seating inside. 10/10 definitely recommend if you're in Santa Monica by the pier wanting a quick bite to eat or a pizza to order and take with you. read more

The Thin and perfectly toasted crust is what makes this the reason why we came back over and over again during our stay in Santa Monica. My boys liked the cheese, I liked the mama slice. Not many variety of toppings, but the ones they do have, albeit simple, are thumbs up!!!! They do get busy, though service flows just perfectly. This is not the same as joes pizza on Bleeker Street in NYC. But it's good NY style pizza meaning it's thin crust. A regular cheese slice is $4.25 plus tax (with tax it's $4.69) Their mozzarella cheese is very good. The only thing is CA pizza dough will never be the same as NY/NJ/PA bc the water is different from what all the pizza chefs tell me. CA pizza dough doesn't have the same chewy fluffy texture. But it was still a yummy NY style slice that you can eat as a snack or meal when you are hungry for that quick bite. Indoor and outdoor seating. Extra sauce that I always like on the side is $1 extra so we didn't do that. read more

I love Joe's Pizza, I've been to Joe's in Florida, LA & Santa Monica, and of course the OG in NY. A must have whenever I'm in the area of one on a trip. The perfect NY feeling pizza shop, small and colorful with the aroma of Pizza in the air, Parmesan and Hot Peppers on the table and good customer service. Nice friendly staff and the wait for the pizza isn't more than 5 minutes. Loved the Santa Monica location and will definitely go back next time I'm in LA. The one on sunset or Hollywood blvd is pretty good too! read more

Two years later, Joe's Pizza remains our top choice for pizza in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. The primary drawback is the parking situation; you'll need to search for parking in one of the nearby structures or on the street, and the area can get quite congested. There's a significant amount of foot traffic in the area, and it's worth noting that homeless individuals are around. As for the service, Anthony was exceptionally friendly, pleasant, and helpful. During a recent visit with my child, he displayed great patience. Their cheese pizza is my favorite, although I tried their white pizza and found it less to my liking. My child is a big fan of their cheese pizza as well. Visiting after school can be enjoyable, but once again, the parking situation can be challenging, especially when you have young children in tow. read more

I have a second stomach for NY style pizza. it doesn't matter if it's before dinner, or after dinner, or the middle of the night, if there's a good NY slice shop around, I've got room to put a slice of cheese inside me. Enter Joe's in Santa Monica...even though we'd already had a full Italian dinner nearby, here it was beckoning for us to come in...we did. I got a cheese slice. I ate it. I was satisfied. Where we live in L.A. there is a dearth of legitimate NY city slices...there's a lot of places that say "NY Style" but I mean just being round and kind of thin doesn't quite cut it. The crust has to be SUPER thin and crispy...with a good ratio of sauce and not over-cheesed. That's what you get at Joe's. As others have said, this is not affiliated with the world famous Joe's Pizza in NYC. (Although it seems semi-implied) I ignored my own advice of skipping any place which has 'award winning' or 'world famous' attached to the sign. If you have to announce yourself as 'world famous' in your marketing ... you are probably not. And as any visitor to Cape Cod knows, you can't find ANY restaurant who hasn't won some sort of award for its chowder. Is this New York style pizza? Hmmm ... it looks kind of like New York style pizza in that its larger than most, very flat and more red sauce can be seen than cheese. That's about where it ends. This tastes NOTHING like NYC pizza, unless there was a type of pizza which was made of cardboard and ketchup and used for a movie prop in NYC. First of all, it is 100% apparent that cheap ingredients are used. These cheese has no taste ... the sauce is no different from frozen Elios pizza sauce ... and the crust is bland and not chewy the way properly made dough is. Every pizza is overcooked and the crust cannot be folded, like NY style, as it is cracker-like and crunchy. The toppings are disgusting ... the meatball slices are square and taste like wet dog smells. The pepperoni is okay ... it has some spice to it ... and it cups when cooked. However, for a giant pizza, they put a skimpy amount on for the price. Let's talk about the price ... $30+ per pizza. I realize that this is located in likely the most touristy hot zone in CA next to Fisherman's Wharf. It follows the playbook of almost every touristy restaurant ... below average to mediocre food at sky high prices. But these pies are truly a rip off. Add a delivery fee and two pies are over $70. What a huge disappointment ... I should have known better than ordering from here. If you are very drunk, a slice or two will be awesome. If you are sober and looking for a quick dinner in your hotel room, there are better options. This is no different than the below average 'buck a slice' pizza places in Times Square, with the exception the slices are 4 - 6 times more expensive. read more

We covered a good amount of their key items. The main takeaway is that while everything is cooked well, but the dishes really lack flavor. I dine out to get flavors that are not easily made at home, and unfortunately, I did not find them here. The food lacks depth, and frankly, it needs salt to make it stand out. The pizza dough is actually really well prepped, easily as good as Pizzeria Sei, which is the best pizza place in LA, period. But again, it just lacks flavor. Also, as a small side note, there is a 4% employee health insurance surcharge added to the final bill. I probably just missed it listed on the menu somewhere, but oh well. Overall, it is a decent place, but I would not go out of my way to come back here.

On August 11, 2017 at approximately 11:00 P.M. I witnessed what I would consider the lowest example of honor and moral integrity in my life. I refuse to stand by in a world without some kind of justice or karma where these types of events are swept under the rug. That is why I believe this story has to be told to whoever I can in hopes that justice prevents these types of people from getting away with this. I live in Western Arizona in a small city I grew up in for most of my life. My sister and best friend both live in Los Angeles, where I have visited numerous times before. Growing up in my small city I have always expected at least a bare minimum code of conduct and professionalism by small businesses. On Friday August 11, the same day as my 25th birthday, I decided with my girlfriend to drive up and visit my friends and family. At about 11:00 P.M. my sister, girlfriend, best friend, and I decided to go to Joe's Pizza in Santa Monica for my late birthday dinner after a day of driving. While we were eating in the crowded small diner you could hear over the crowd of people a man's voice screaming "f*** you." In the restaurant was an approximately 40ish year old black man (relevant to the story), and what appeared to be his wife and children (approximately 3, 5, and 7?). It appeared most everyone in the restaurant was ignoring this man screaming and threatening his wife and children. He was getting more and more aggressive and people seemed extremely uncomfortable. I then walked up to the front and told the employees (who were three Hispanic looking males) that man was cursing out his family and threatening them and if they could do something about this. Initially I was fearful for his wife who appeared bruised in her face and skittish to his remarks. The employee at the register just said to me, "he already bought his pizza there's nothing we can do." I was shocked by this reply and a young woman standing next to me also expressed concern that he was screaming at his family, to which the employee just stated, "he comes in all the time, it always happens." I went back to my family and told them what they said and noticed the man was now waving his arms in the face of another early 20's male customer screaming at him for what I assumed was speaking up to this man. The man started getting louder and more aggressive threatening everyone in the restaurants calling them, "f***** a** white boys." No one in the restaurant was inciting hostility or threatening violence aside him. He made multiple references to, "the street's he's from don't take f***** white boys like you" and threatening that he would kick these f***** a** white boys a** and that he, "was a gangster." Everyone in the restaurant was uncomfortable and people started leaving to which I returned to the three employees and said to them, "can't you kick this guy out?" and even offered to pay the guy's pizza. To which one of the employees just smiled and said, "What do you want me to do?" and threw his hands up and laughed. All of the employees thought it was extremely amusing and thought the situation was extremely funny. I then said, "can't you call the police?" to which a separate employee then laughed again and yelled over to the crazed man and pointed at me and then yelled, "this guy wants to kick you out." I've never been so disgusted in my life by someone's decision then that moment right there. This employee's response to me suggesting he remove the man who is driving away customers is to attempt to get that man to funnel his violence towards me specifically. I looked at the employees and told them all, "where is your honor or moral code?" and then all of my party began to leave. Even more shocking to the situation was that while we were leaving all of his children, including the wife and his youngest about 3 year old daughter, screamed at me, "f*** you white boy" over and over and as we were walking away on the sidewalk he screamed out to me, "f*** you big nose Jew." When we got outside I got out my phone to call the police but noticed other customers who had walked out were already doing so. When we looked back at the restaurant the man was starting to pick up chairs and yell more threats to the people still in the restaurant. At this point we all walked away and left where shortly after the man and his family followed, now with their pizza, making more threats to everyone on the sidewalk. Shortly after the police finally showed up and appeared to be interrogating the man while his wife and kids yelled more threats. We left and just wanted to get away from this whole situation. I feel I shouldn't have to point out race to this story. I am not even upset over this crazed man ruining my birthday dinner. What I am disgusted about is how the employees handled this situation. read more

I popped in last weekend to Joe's Pizza after a nice walk on the Promenade with my girl. She wanted a slice with vegetables (she loves eggplant) and I suggested Joe's. Some of my friends have been here and they've always told me that the pizza's good and they're right. The slices are nice, thin, and crunchy. I ended up having one with just cheese and some of the garlic balls. There were some other types of pizza readily available on display: cheese; pepperoni (of course, we're in America because Italians never put this stuff on their pizzas); vegetable; and cheese balls. They heat up the slices right there in a two-tear over behind the main counter and you're all set. The place's clean and while you wait, you can see all the pics of Joe on the wall with Hollywood stars and some clippings from media coverage about him and his business back in NY. After a hard day's shopping I stopped in to Joe's Pizza in Santa Monica for a slice...and ended up eating 2...then ordered a large pepperoni and a salad to take home! When I moved to LA from NYC I thought I'd never taste good pizza again but I was wrong, Joe's pizza crust is thin with just the right amount of crispiness, not thick and doughy like some pizzas. Both the white slice and cheese slice I had were delicious. I especially liked the tomato sauce which I was told is homemade. The place has a very friendly atmosphere and helpful staff, it was decorated for the holidays and had holiday music playing in the background, a thoughtful and appropriate touch that I appreciated and got me ready to finish my holiday shopping! I love this place and I'll be back to enjoy their pizza again soon...or have it delivered to my home for the whole family to enjoy! read more

Attention Everyone! there is no New York Pizza in LA. Repeat, there is no New York Pizza in LA!!! But Joe's of Bleecker St is doing a fine job of creating a pizza that somewhat reminds me of New York Pizza. The look, the smell and the hand-feel (all of which are part of the whole NY pizza "thing") are very close. But the flavor, "snap" and chewy outer crust to crispy thin inner crust ratio is not even close. However, i don't judge it compared to NY pizza or it would get 1 or 2 stars. No, I compare it to every other sorry excuse for a pizza in LA. When compared to Mulberry, Mozza, Amore's, and Vito's, Joe's comes out the clear winner. Plus the storefront is kinda dirty, loosely placed garlic powder placed here and there, just like NY. So, go to Joe's. DOn;t let them re-heat the pizza too much or it will dry out. read more

Joe's Pizza is a true gem for anyone craving delicious, high-quality pizza! The standout feature here is the range of vegetarian options, which are both creative and satisfying. I tried the grandma's pizza, and it was absolutely fantastic. The sauce was especially noteworthy - rich and flavorful, it really made the pizza shine. One of the best things about Joe's Pizza is that it's not crowded, so you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Plus, it's refreshingly affordable for the quality you get. A small note to keep in mind: they don't provide to-go boxes for slices, so if you're planning on taking leftovers with you, be prepared to bring your own container. WOW! Pizza just arrived and they deliver just as HUGE as you see in their actual hot plate display ... wow ... I expected a pizza hut/dominos sized delivery pizza and that they reserved those huge pizzas on the counter for per slice sale ... nope ... I am just delighted!!!! I am a Santa Monican of nearly 2 decades and a SERIOUS pizza lover. The thin crust pizza here is in my opinion in line with Mulberry Street and is what Frankie and Johnnies (of Brentwood) would have been if F&J's offered service as friendly as Joe's ... Is Frankie and Johnies even still in business?? Wanted to give my hearty thumbs up to a fairly new local pizza place that is just a few blocks from where I live. This may be the best pizza on the West Side; at least we go out of our way to get it when in the area. I've tried several types and was impressed by them all. The pizza is fresh and tasty; the crust perfectly crisp, and plenty of toppings. My rating is not for the place, but for their specialty, which is the pizza. There's no décor or atmosphere. It is meant to be primarily a take-out, fast food joint, no frills, "hole in the wall;" not a "sit down" restaurant. Although they do have a few tables. I almost downgraded it by one star because I like salads and the salads aren't the same quality as the pizza. (The ones I ordered came with packets of salad dressing; never a good sign.) But, as I've pointed out, pizza is the "star" and salads are just part of the few side dishes available. read more

JOE'S PIZZA SAVED MY LIFE LAST NIGHT!! I made the mistake of eating at Makai's Lounge (next door to Joe's) last night. I wasted $100 and an hour of my life; on top of that - I left hungrier than when I first arrived. After leaving Makai's I needed to go and get some real food - Joe's Pizza was like a mirage in the desert....thank god it was real. Although the guys behind the counter act a lot like a hot chick playing "hard-to-get" when I finally got them to take my order - it was exactly how I love it....extra sauce. It's the only pizza on the left coast that reminds me of the right coast...good stuff. This place is a "must try" and if you go late at night on a weekend - it's packed with eye-candy as an added bonus. Yes; they still have parmesan and crushed red....don't worry! read more

I have had a few unfortunate experiences here. Tonight I decided to finally write about it. I've been charged different prices each time I've visited (according to the whim of the cashier) for simple things like a cup of water or ice. One time the cashier said they don't have ice. Tonight the guy told me that HE charges a dollar for a cup of water. I explained that sometimes I've been given it for free and other times charged $0.50. I think this dude is padding his paycheck upon unsuspecting tourists. It sucks when one bad apple spoils the bunch. But the pizza is decent by the slice pizza - just don't expect that nice humanitarian component. Like you need water to take your medicine - if that's the case the service varies. read more

One of my fav spots for pizza in LA when I come back home. Their thin-crust pizza is amazing (totally beats dominoes cardboard pizza). I like this one better than the one in NY simply because I feel more at home when I'm here, so I guess I'm bias in that sense. The ingredients taste and feel fresh and the service is excellent. The only reasons I must remove one star is because of their delivery service: long, and multiple times my pizza arrived cold. But that's what I get for being lazy and not driving out there! :P But again, I recommend this place over domino's or pizza hut or any other pizza place in LA for that matter. GO JOES!! :) read more

Joe's is certainly the best slice in LA, and one of the few places in the city that knows how to cook a pizza properly. The crust is thin enough that it burns just a bit on the bottom, and the cheese doesn't suffocate the sauce. If you are a true pizza lover, Joe's will rock your world and leave you coming back for more. You can add toppings to any of those pizzas and make slices beyond your wildest, tastiest, fantasies! Make sure to have their fresh mozz slice with peperoni. If you are visiting the city, make sure you hit this place! Also they have coca cola in glass bottle, it taste so much better that way. the perfect combination. :) read more

I moved from New York to California back in January thinking my pizza life would be left on the East Coast and that perhaps I'd loose some lbs by not eating so much. I was right about this up until the day that I found Joe's. Joe's is EXACTLY like NY pizza, everything from the crust to the cheese to the sauce to the tiny store it self. I just love it. I usually grab a few slices and some garlic knots then just pretend like I'm back in NY for the next fifteen minutes or so. After I'm done I usually take another slice or two home with me for later :) I love Joe's and am very thankful someone out here knows how to make a damn good pizza! read more

This place is a godsend, a NY pizza shop on the boardwalk open late. Literally every time I'm downtown at a bar, i have to stop by after the nights over. Its just puts a great cap to a night. The pizza is NY style, not quite NY but good enough for LA pizza. They sell pizza by the slice or you can order a whole pie. They have garlic knots and other goodies as well. The place is literally a hole in the wall, a quick in and out. The pizza is good, although I've never had it sober i have to admit my judgement may be skewed but everyone else on here seems to agree the pizza here hits the spot. read more

I was there last night and i have to say the service is so pathetic, I waited forever for someone to acknowledge me and my family. The cashier was totally rude and I could hear loud screams and cursing in spanglish on the back over where I suppose the kitchen should be. After waiting forever the pizza came cold and the dough wet. I don't know where people come up with this being a great place, I went hearing great things, and left irritated, and eating a pizza worse than that of a fast food place. Gross service, gross pizza. Oh! and homeless and drunks outside! AVOID!!! read more
