I was involved in accident in front of the restaurant I'm from out of town so I went inside to get out of the cold while waiting for a ride. I told the hostess what happened and she told me to have a seat. I was hoping to get a quick meal even just a drink while I waited but none of the staff ever even acknowledged me after I sat down. read more

Joe's restaurant was recommended by a couple at a location I am staying. I told them I was interested in a meat and three restaurant. It was easy to find and easy to park. I was seated quickly. Food choices were okay, but the prices were not what I expected. I had a small serving of some seasoned shrimp, eight pieces. A salad bar, and I had a side of white beans. It also came with hush puppies. The salad looked like shredded lettuce, and hardly any other things to add. So don't be too impressed by a salad bar. I wouldn't even call it a bar. They would've done better if they would've just said small dinner salad. The shrimp was very good. The beans were unseasoned and thank goodness for hot sauce because it made it so much better. Hush puppies, I didn't even taste them. I'm not one for fried foods, so I will let others grade those. Once I got my order delivered, the waitress asked me from across the room if I needed anything else. I never saw her again unless I waived her down. I would've liked a refresh on my soda and I would've liked to see the menu one more time just in case I wanted dessert. As it turned out, I didn't want to stay any longer. I was very thirsty and I thought I would die before anyone came by to refresh my soda. So the food doesn't get any high marks, but it wasn't awful either. I just would not think that I had to pay $20 w/tip, for something that wasn't that special. The waitress was neglectful. The other hostess was also not very responsive. The staff here was awesome! Even though we arrived right before closing time, they graciously served us our dinner and were amazing! The food was awesome! My boyfriend and I wanted their Sirloin for two meal but they were out of the sirloin, so they gave us two ribeye steaks for the same price when it should've been way more! No exaggeration.. It literally took an hour from the time we sat down at the booth just to get our food on the table. Our waiter literally stopped by ZERO times in that hour and never showed back up even after our food arrived. Sure, they were busy at Sunday lunch hour but my goodness.. Hire more staff! I get it though, this is apparently the only restaurant in town so they have no competition. I am hardly ever in this town, but if I was and looking for something to eat and this was the only place open - I would move on to the next town and cross my fingers for a McDonald's or a gas station with a hot dog. I gave this place 2 stars only because the food was actually good, but the wait and the service really overshadowed it. read more

Fried green beans is what made it for me here. I don't get those up in Seattle and it was different. I would say this place is great just for that. The rest of the food is fried and gressy. Nothing to brag about. The service is slow and you have to ask for everything. read more

The food is horrible here. When we walked in the waitresses were playing around. They definitely weren't worried about doing their job. I had the catfish, which was told it was their best seller. Why? The fish was ok, but nothing I would come back for, hush puppies had no flavor, the bake potato had a burnt flavor, the slaw was slimy, no telling how old it was. Not good at all. I stopped at Joe's because it is one of the only places in Bolivar to eat. There is a sign to seat your self. I'm not sure if they are lazy or giving people the feeling that they have the power to make such a great decision. I choose a booth thinking it's going to be comfortable, boy was I wrong. I had a 2x4 further up my ass-crack than a stripper would a thong. I try to move over a bit but then I just sank down 1/2 a foot and then wasn't an appropriate height for the table. The blonde waitress was friendly. I ordered medium rare steak and eggs (because $3 for a side salad which consist of iceberg lettuce which has been sitting out on a salad bar all day is ridiculously overpriced). Joe's is by no means a steak house and should never advertise themselves as so. The steak was poorly seasoned, over cooked, gristly, a horrible cut, and poor quality over all. The food, or whatever was on my plate, was hardly edible. If the owner showed as much pride in his restaurant as he did in his TN football team (judging by all the TN orange and decor) and who I'm guessing is his family (judging by the huge blown up pictures of small children which is weird to look at while eating), he might have a decent restaurant. I barely made it to a gas station in Whiteville, TN then McDonalds in Somerville, TN on my drive home to stop and destroy their bathroom with the repercussions that came from my bowels and eating Joe's just prior. Lord help anyone who went in after me. In short, there is a lot of improvements to be made before anyone should ever consider eating here. read more
