I love coming to Joey Rideau! Atmosphere is great and the food is amazing. The steak and sushi is a go to for me as a meal, it's the perfect combination and tastes amazing. Not as much steak as I would have liked but it did taste great. I usually like to start with the tandoori flatbread (highly recommend!) as a shared app and depending maybe even split the steak and sushi it's not a full meal. They also have happy hour where the flatbread and other apps are a lot cheaper and cheap drinks at that time too. Went for dinner with my son and he ordered the upgrade to a filet. Arrived stone cold. Sent it back and 30 MINUTES later it came back - after i've completely finished my dinner and had to watch him eat on his own. Megan the "manager" came to apologize - offered free dessert but by then we didn't want any more food. Came here for dinner on New Years Day because most places downtown was closed or had limited seating for a bigger party. The place is beautiful and somewhat more expensive then most (not terrible). Most of our party got a burger which they throughly enjoyed especially the fries! The fries were among the best we have had on vacation. The salad lacks dressing so you might have to ask for more. We went here for a work function. I had a Farmers Market salad which came to $27 with tax and tips. I thought the salad was bland and nothing special, but more importantly it was expensive for just a salad! The servers thought they'd messed up on my coworker's order who had nut allergies. When we received out bill, I was charged full price for my meal, plus a 18% tip ( which i know can be normal for large groups ) but i expect good service and properly cooked food if this is going to happen My husband had a burger; the patty was tiny & the bun was huge. The menu is not the biggest but they offer variety of dishes including sushi, salads and steaks. Ordered some butter chicken and a burger. The portions/price ration is not the best. The burger was pricey for what it was. They try to sell you extras that should have been included in the first place. The patty is also embarrassingly small. The butter chicken portion size was okay, but nothing spectacular nor seemed to be worth $21. Didn't get any drinks so can't comment on that. We ordered the Ravioli with Lobster Bisk and the the Asia Thai style chicken platter and for dessert their fan fav tiramisu mousse! The Good: the service was impeccable from the hostess to your waiter. Our waiter knew all the ingredients and made recommendations including the red wine we got. Good selection of vino. The Bad: you feel a bit hurried if you dine @peak hours and on this night, there was loud music so a little hard to hear someone across the table. The Ugly: you can come in off the street or like what we did after our shopping.However you need to know that you can wait at least 30-40 minutes to get a table. Also a bit pricey for certain meals considering $$$. Tip: Yeah restaurants like these you really need to reserve way in advance or you'll have to wait. If you do wait, the hostesses come around and bring over appetizers from the menus to hide your time like shushi, hamburger siders etc...very filling and I am sure much appreciated. I just came back from a week-long trip around Quebec and Ontario and this is the best meal I had the whole time! We were starving for dinner the night we were in Ottawa and walked by this place and thought it looked good and didn't have a wait, so decided to give it a go instead of wasting time looking for somewhere else. Honestly, when I walked in I got a little nervous - and my boyfriend later told me he felt the same. All the hostesses are dressed up, the decor is very high end trendy, and the menu seemed a little on the eclectic side (which can sometimes feel like a way to spruce up sub-par food). We were totally wrong. Our server was really friendly and attentive, being from the States we were not used to the server bringing the little credit card machine over to the table when it was time to pay the bill, and this guy was the only server our whole trip who actually made conversation during the process instead of just standing there and staring like everywhere else we went. As for the food, like I said, best meal I had in Canada. I have a real hard time finding good vegetarian options anywhere, but Canada was another beast. At Joey Rideau, I got the lettuce wrap (a starter/shareable plate) and a side of fries... because why not? SO. GOOD. It was also really filling, which I did not expect! I probably could have skipped the fries, since they were just your average fries. My boyfriend had a steak with fried potato egg rolls and vegetables, which he also loved. Only other comment I have is that I really liked the bathrooms lol. There are a bunch of individual stalls with your own sink and everything lined up down a hallway. Was in Ottawa to watch hockey. After the game our ûber driver was late or was stuck In traffic, we hopped onto the downtown bus instead. The bus driver dropped us off right in front of this restaurant. It was Saturday around 6pm, and we were able to get a table right away. Our server was Eve; very friendly and cordial. For appetizer we ordered the tandoori chicken flatbread. For the main course, I ordered the Bombay butter chicken and my husband ordered California chicken. While waiting for our meal to arrived, I decided to look at the reviews on Yelp about this restaurant, and one negative review about the Bombay butter chicken, not to order because, this and that. I said oh no!!! But, when the meal arrived and after tasted the Bombay butter chicken, I was relieved that it tasted the way I like it. I loved it. We enjoyed our meal, and the atmosphere, if ever in downtown Ottawa again, I would absolutely go back.
