He is the ideal artist. Very respectful for his clients and ensuring their comfort at all times. I was really stoked because the last tattoo I got, my snake and skull and flowers, I just kind of said I like xyz but do whatever I totally trust you. And then Max was awesome with my kids asking them what they want their annual tattoo to be. My daughter wanted to watch the entire process (she's 11 1/2,) and she was intrigued. Max tolerated ALL of her questions and all of her talking. My son was very direct and asked for his specific star and didn't want to watch or comment. He ended up talking to Max's wife about Pokemon. I have said that Max is my guy as long as he'll have me and as long as he stays in Portland!

One was done back in 2017 and still looks amazing, no touch-ups needed, which says a lot about his work. He's great at taking your idea and giving honest, helpful feedback to make it even better. Two of my tattoos were fairly standard, and he totally nailed them. The one we're working on now is something I came up with, and we built it from the ground up together. It's a little different than what he usually does, but he's been totally open to it, had great ideas, and has been awesome to work with throughout the process. He's always on time, prepared, thoughtful, detail-oriented, and just really solid to work with. Honest and fair too. I truly can't recommend him enough.

They were helpful to my needs, and I felt like they cared the whole time I was there - and respectful of my time as well. I had to go back a couple of time because of the weird layout of my home, but we brainstormed and worked it out. A pleasurable experience start to finish. Ron

Here's why-- They are helpful and pleasant, have a solid selection of equipment and the listening room I have used is nicely set up from a sonics perspective. They know their stuff. Why my least favorite and why still four stars then? There is absolutely nothing wrong here. They work with your budget and try to understand you and your needs which the other shops do also. They don't pressure you. But each time I still got this subtle sense that they cared more about the sale than me the customer. They are also less brand agnostic than other shops, praising the brands they carry over other brands on two occasions. It's hard to explain, but in our other great audio stores, I don't get that vibe. They want me to enjoy great music and understand that it's all about the long term relationship. That's why those places have gained my repeat business, while I am still waiting for Stereotypes to earn mine. Let me add a couple of caveats: 1) I am so grateful that we have as many quality audio stores as we do. In most markets, Stereotypes might be the only, or certainly one of the best shops. 2) for some of my audiophile friends, this is their number one shop. So as always, ymmv. So if you are looking for a nice 2 channel stereo, please do give them a chance--and know that in Portland we are spoiled. If you love music and care about musical reproduction, please support our local shops.

Pretty much everything they carry is an aspirational brand, you could most likely be happy with anything in the store. Case of Bass…read moretakes apart thrift store and garage sale speakers and installs them in thrift store and garage sale suitcases. They are following the trend towards all in one iPOD speakers, rather than having pairs of speakers. These are not hi-fi speakers for critical listeners. The drivers are chosen by eye and the electronics are tuned by ear which means they will be idiosyncratic. On the other hand, most people are not critical listeners as would be a recording engineer. So the speakers are more design curiosity objects. They have handles for easy moving, though I doubt they are particularly rainproof! Case of Bass has even built an experimental backpack speaker, the Bass-Pack. These speakers are great for stylists, photo shoots and displays. They have been successful in that world and you can see examples in the press section of their website and follow on their social media. About twice a year, they open their workshop and showroom for First Thursday - they are down the hall from Hellion Gallery (they have since moved - check their website). Otherwise they sell over the web and by appointment. They got some love in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXode5ZRTfc. These cool speakers are guaranteed to get the party started for your design friends.
