We ordered a shuttle to take us to our hotel after returning the camper we'd rented the previous weeks. Normally, this would be nothing special, but we ended up getting a guided tour of many of Sydney's suburbs, which we wouldn't have otherwise seen, if we'd taken another taxi service. There was another customer in the car, and we all had a lively conversation about different cultures in other countries.
What made the service spectacular though, was the fact that we realised when we went to pay our driver that we'd left our wallet (and international resident cards) at the camper rental shop, on the other side of Sydney. We had no idea how to get back there. Our driver, Josh, offered to go back to the rental shop and pick it up for us, then deliver it back to us at our hotel a few hours later. This is not normally something you expect a complete stranger to offer, or expect to turn out well. But we thanked him for the offer and agreed, and he brought us our wallet with no questions asked. He wouldn't accept any payment for having made our trip a total of three times, just said to 'pay it forward'. What a great first experience of Sydney.
Without those resident cards, we wouldn't have been able to enter our current country of residence. He saved our professional lives and probably our visas, too. read more
