We chatted to a sales guy to get an idea of cost and how much they would give us in part exchange for our car. We were in a rush and said we would pop back another time. We popped back a couple of days later and the sales guy Brian recognised us. We asked if we could test drive one as it was a little different to anything I had driven before. When he was free he got a similar size engine Yeti but different spec model out. I took it for quite a long test drive and loved it. We then got back and talked numbers. They offered us a good deal for our car then we went for a PCP deal over 3 years paying an amount each month and I can either buy the car or give it back as deposit on my next Skoda. With in half an hour my car was on order. I had to await the arrival of my Corida Red Skoda Yeti with black roof/trim Monte Carlo 2l manual 2 wheel drive. It was the first model of that type they had sold and one of the first in the country. Excited. I got a call a couple of weeks later to tell me I can can pick up the car next week. I agreed Tuesday after work. I rushed back from work and the car was outside the show room. I had to go through a load of paperwork. We then transferred our stuff from the old car to the new. They had programmed the radio to the stations I wanted. Brian went through some of the controls. I also was given a cuddle dog and a photography voucher. We were done and ready to go. I drive carefully. I loved it. I also have 2 free services included and get Skoda Assist. I would recommend Autosales for anyone looking for a new or used Skoda. Very friend and knowledgeable staff.

Test drive was with Phil who was nice, but we wasted ages while he tried to find the keys. Paperwork was a bit easier, despite all the add-ons they try to sell you. I declined. Cars come with an automatic 3 month warranty. It needed an MOT so they did that after I'd signed for it. Collection hours are kind of rubbish if you have a job, but they eventually said I could collect on Saturday morning. Pickup involved Nick who was lovely, but car delayed because apparently he sent it back to be re-vacuumed. To be honest, I don't think they had cleaned it at all. They promise "as good as new" but that's not at all true, unless Audi sell brand new cars with missing socket covers, stained seats and sticky windows. They sent the cover after almost 2 weeks but only option for the car not being valeted properly was to go back there and wait around for them to redo. Considering they didn't do it properly initially (and possibly caused the sticky windows), it hardly seemed worth time and expense of the trip. Would potentially use again, but really not sure. I would probably go elsewhere, because I don't actually trust them now after the experience. It's so upsetting to work SO hard to save up for a car, spend time finding one and doing your research...and then find that they couldn't even take a stain off the seat and lied about the cover being removed for cleaning. I actually managed to remove that stain myself so it's completely clear that they just didn't even try. Very disappointing.

The livery on the side of the building has a quaint 1950s feel to it, which I always find rather welcoming, for some reason. They have a decent selection of cars available, which are parked out on the street during their opening hours. Their window display also has a whiteboard showing their full stock list. Their repair and MOT centre does a brisk trade. As I have a pretty old car I have trouble with it from time-to-time and I always ask the fellas there to take a look. Most of the time they simply offer advice (such as the time my wife left the car without petrol in it.....rather embarrassing!) but on the odd occasions they have done actual work on the car they have always been reasonable in their estimates and prices. Recommended!

What the passers-by don't know, however, is that behind the office and forecourt lays two additional indoor garages, home to a much broader and much more varied collection of cars. I discovered this on a recent visit to view a sporty little Toyota Celica, after selling my previous car online to a long-distance buyer. The car was priced at just under £3,000 and a member of staff took me out in it for a test drive after I'd looked round the vehicle in one of his spacious garages. The car was fantastic to drive, with superb grip and a very sporty feel. However, I disliked the staff's pushy sales banter and decided to leave it due to being unsure about the colour and condition of the interior. A week later, I spotted a similar car online for £2,250. It had a better specification, lower mileage and was in much, much better all-round condition. The staff at Boldmere Motor Company are friendly and their forecourt may be enticing, but be warned: the cars here are overpriced and you're likely to find a much better deal somewhere else.

Andy gave me, what turned out to be, an honest appraisal of the car, and was happy for me to place a holding deposit on the car to allow me to travel to see it and agreed to have it M.O.T'd before my arrival. Upon physically seeing the car, it did not disappoint and was prepared to a high standard and drove well on test drive. My relatives requirements changed in terms of the vehicle she was looking for and I did not go ahead with the planned purchase of the VW Golf. Andy returned my deposit without any fuss and was what can only be described as a gentleman in the circumstances.

A small shop, it's very reminiscent of what you'd imagine a local village car business of a bygone era would look like, with an endearing sort of cluttered workshop feel about the place. As you'd expect from a shop such as this, the two guys working in there when I went in were both extremely knowledgeable when it came to cars, and were more than happy to talk and give me some free advice. After such great service, I felt obligated to buy something, and although I was extremely wary of the fact that such a small shop may be having to charge very high prices, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the same wipers that I'd found in a large chain store for the same price.

You see, Autac is a car accessory place for those DIY repair jobs that may be too small to take to a mechanics but are just too big to completely ignore. When I have needed to swap a bulb, touch up a scratch, or even replace a stolen number plate, then Autac has always been there for me. It's quaint in its own little way and the endless boxes of car knick-knacks look like Arkwright has had a hand in the unconsciously retro layout. But, that's where the charm ends. I'm not a fan of Autac's because the approach of the staff is unusual to say the least. You're guaranteed to hear one of the owner's sarcastic quips or silly jibes. Even if Lewis Hamilton came in, there'd be a reason to mock his query or belittle his purchases. Autac is the comedy club and you're sitting in the front row. Customers come out of necessity, not for a fantastic customer experience. If you can withstand the approach then the shop itself is great.
