Yes it's unhealthy food but it's at the heart of the British nation. It's the only meal that wasn't rationed in World War Two as Churchill felt it would harm their morale.
This place does fish & chips exceptionally well and while prices have risen around 20/30% the quality remains top notch. I think it wouldn't do to reduce portion sizes given the price hikes. It was service with a smile too.
My chunky cod had a perfectly light crisp batter and it was delicious for such a simple thing yet I cannot think of one fish and chip shop within 15 miles of where I live that gets close to this place and are awful in comparison. I can't even guess why as we are only talking a few (less than 5) ingredients.
The chips too were ace. I guess the food is cooked in beef dripping and having had fish cooked in vegetable oils (rapeseed, sunflower, olive, peanut) nowt beats pure beef dripping.
