The gas fire wouldn't light and the electric heater was faulty the gas boiler didn't look too safe either. The caravan smelt really bad of stale gin and there was mould on the bedding and around the windows. There was even a blood stain on one of the quilts. The 'restaurant' food was not of good quality, we had to go to reception to ask to be served at the bar even though the bar said it was open. We didn't expect much having read many previous reviews but we did expect somewhere warm, dry and clean. We didn't get it. When we reported faults to the staff, we were not taken very seriously as we were only here a few days anyway. I was glad to get home and we will not be visiting Woolacombe again.

Food is served in the cafe which is situated in the hotel - although this is run separately from the hotel. As the Pier hotel sits on such a good site on Pothcawls promenade it is a shame that it is only a very basic hotel, and that it doesnt aspire to be something nicer or fancier - it does however fulfill it's remit of being a clean, basic and cheap hotel - which offers satisfactory accommodation for the price. The Pier bar is popular in the evenings - and has a late licence, so could present some noise problems for the guests on weekends.

I reserved a larger room in the converted annex a short stroll away, as we like quiet. The room faced the water and road noise was not an issue as the windows were well insulated and the road in general is quiet out of season. Being Valentines' Day we had some 'nocturnal rumblings' from the room above us (we were on floor 2 of 3 floors) and after over hearing conversations I believe the occupants might have been staff on a discounted break. However their youthful efforts did not cause us much annoyance (OK I'd love to be in my 20's again....) and sleep came well around midnight. Our bedroom was large, had great linen and mattress, the bathroom had a great tub with separate free standing shower and offered good 'smellies and lotions'. The room heated up quickly...in fact I needed to open the window at 02.00 to cool down for 30 minutes...sadly my amorous desire did not toddle into action so back to sleep I went! We had a drink in the bar of the main pub where the counter was not nearly as clean as it should have been. The young barman offered us a cloth to wipe it down when we mentioned it and even asked us if we wanted to use a spray! Being a former barman as well as a hospitality inn owner I thought he needed some training; when it's quiet always wipe down your bar. He was pleasant enough but tables in general needed more clearing and cleaning. To sit in bed and watch a trawler drift past the window and then next morning to see the river bottom as the tide had gone out was an impressive experience as the tide must go up and down by over 20 feet....... A good stay and we even managed to get parked in their free car park. In the height of the season parking must be an issue as ever other property seems to be a rental. That said, street parking is not charged for and there is a large council car park should you need it but there is a charge there.

I booked this house for myself & some friends for a long weekend in May 2007. First impressions are…read morethat it is huge with plenty of space for a large group but it could do with a bit of TLC. There are 7 bedrooms over the first and second floors - one being a bunk room but all the others are doubles/twins with plenty of room. Our party comprised of 7 adults, 1 child and 2 infants and the house had rooms to spare. The property is available for smaller groups who do not occupy the second floor but even though we did take the whole property it was still well priced when split between 7 adults. This property was booked directly with the owner (presumed) who lives elsewhere. The website is comprehensive and is a good representation of the house. The house is located in the little village of Morthoe on the outskirts of Woolacombe. There is just one parking space infront of the property and the rest of us parked in the public car park - approx 5 min walk and very reasonably priced. The village has some pubs and shops that provide the essentials. Woolacombe is a short drive away - you could probably walk it but if you have kids and beach equipment driving is the better option. The house is well layed out with a huge lounge/diner that includes a full sized pool table and piano. There is a utility/boot room, which contains lots of useful beach equipment and a wc to the rear. The kitchen is almost industrial with plenty of crockery, pans, etc - it easily caters for the occupants even if full of adults. There is also a games room on the top floor with table football and air hockey. It is well situated for coastal walks and we played a local golf course which is just a 5 minute drive away (also reviewed). Overall, this place feels a bit like a hostel rather than home. However, it is very well priced for a nice break close to the large fantastic beach in Woolacombe.

Theres plenty of seating both at the front and at the back of the pub. It's within easy reach on Westward Ho! beach. Children are catered for - with an indoor soft play area for the little ones. The menu also includes childrens meals. There is also a pool table room however children should be supervised. Hot drinks are also served and the menu has a variety of meals. On Sundays they have a Carvery which is popular. A great place to have a drink or a bar meal!
