An excellent school…read more Note: I am a St. Viator alum, class of 2001. I had an excellent education at this school, and would recommend it to everyone. Class sizes are somewhat small, and for the most part, the faculty is great. During my time as a student, I found the faculty to be very caring. They work hard to make sure every student excels. This is something I think helped to turn me around from an average student in Freshman year to a great student with a passion for learning in my Senior year. One thing to be aware of: this school has a mandatory drug testing policy for all students starting in Fall 2007.

The library was a great place to have the coaches and judges meet. It is full of books and has a great relaxing feel to it. The classrooms hosted the individual rooms where the debating took place. I attended Christian Liberty Academy for my 10th-grade year and homeschooled through this school…read morefor 7th-9th grade. Looking back as an adult, I deeply regret the education and overall experience I received there. I understand that parents who choose a Christian school often do so because they want their children raised with strong values and a foundation in their faith. But I would strongly encourage parents to look beyond the word "Christian" and examine both what is actually being taught and the environment their child will be entering. During my time at Christian Liberty, religion wasn't limited to a Bible class. We attended chapel every school day, had a separate Bible/philosophy course, and religious doctrine was heavily incorporated into subjects that I believe should have provided us with a much broader academic education. In history, I was taught that the Earth was only around 6,000 years old, that humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time, and the Canopy Theory intended to support a literal interpretation of Noah's flood. My science education was similarly frustrating. Rather than simply acknowledging the school's religious beliefs while teaching established science, I remember significant classroom time being spent explaining why mainstream scientists were supposedly wrong and presenting creationist explanations as science. Even economics was heavily framed through religion. As an adult, I've often wondered what students my age in other schools were learning while so much of my school day was being devoted to reinforcing one particular religious worldview. Unfortunately, academics weren't my only negative experience. I came to Christian Liberty as a new student and experienced extreme bullying. A number of students had parents who worked at the school, and from my perspective, those students were often treated differently and seemed to be protected from consequences. One incident has stayed with me all these years. I approached a teacher who was the parent of one of the students involved because I was struggling with what was happening. Instead of addressing the bullying or helping me resolve the situation, her response was essentially that I should "go pray about it." I was a kid asking an adult at my school for help. Prayer may be meaningful to someone experiencing a difficult situation, but it shouldn't take the place of adults actually protecting a student and addressing bullying. That's part of the larger problem I experienced at Christian Liberty: religion seemed to be used as the answer to nearly everything--even in situations where education, critical thinking, accountability, or adult intervention were what was actually needed. My concern isn't simply that Christian Liberty teaches Christianity. It's a Christian school, so families should obviously expect religious instruction. My concern is what happens when religious doctrine begins replacing or distorting a well-rounded education in science, history, economics, and other subjects--and when a religious response is substituted for dealing with a child's very real problems. Parents only get one chance to educate their children. Faith can be taught at home and at church without sacrificing exposure to established science, diverse ideas, critical thinking, and a broad academic education. I can't speak for every student's experience or for every classroom at Christian Liberty today. I can only speak honestly about what I personally experienced during my time there. If you're considering this school, I strongly encourage you to look closely at the actual curriculum, ask difficult questions about how the school handles bullying and accountability, and consider whether this is the environment and education you want for your child. For me, looking back, I wish my most important educational years of my childhood had been very different.

2018-2019 were the most traumatic years of my life at Lake Louise…read more In the second half of 3rd grade, 2018, I went to the school park to play. I got there through side streets. After Care was happening, and a staff member, Ms. Geeta, saw me, told me to stay put, then brought me inside. They assumed I'd walked from a far main road (even though my address was on file) and decided to involve CPS. I barely remember the details because I've blocked most of that out. 4th grade (2018-2019) was worse. Around December, I was running to class so I wouldn't be late, and instead of a simple reminder, they stuck me with a teacher's aide until 6th grade. I dealt with bullies constantly, the same kids I had to put up with in 3rd grade. One time at lunch, one of them poured milk on me. Multiple teachers were supervising and NOTHING was done. The office staff scared me so badly that I'd run when I saw them. I gaslit myself for years thinking I was "acting crazy," but the truth is they terrified me. When I'd run, the principal and staff would chase me. I remember hiding in the library, and when I came out, the principal pinned me to the ground. I got in trouble for "fighting back," and they called the cops on me. After that, they sent me to a behavior facility who evaluated me and said everything was fine. Another time, I ran from my IEP resource teacher and hid in a bathroom stall. She and other staff came into the bathroom and waited for me to come out. That invasion of privacy is DISTURBING. In Art class, I was sitting at my desk when someone I thought was a friend grabbed my wrists behind the chair. One of my bullies walked up with his fist balled like he was about to punch me. I yanked my arms free, grabbed my Chromebook, and hit him to protect myself. Students saw it, but the teacher didn't notice a thing. Then there was the daily backpack and pocket search. Every. Single. Day. Just because I was friends with someone who brought a Nerf gun to school. I had to hand over my backpack and pull all my pockets inside-out at the front desk. To top it off, the school lunch was disgusting and honestly unsafe. One day in morning detention, the staff brought me breakfast. I opened my vanilla milk and nothing came through the straw. I looked inside and it was CHUNKY. I poured it out in the nurse's sink, and it came out like slime. Expired milk I almost drank. There are so many more things I've forgotten because of how traumatic it was. I had to look back at an old Google review I wrote years ago just to remember some of it, and it shocks me every time. So DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL. It's a terrible environment. The only thing I'm thankful for is that it made me strong. I don't let authority walk over me anymore. I don't stay quiet, and I don't accept disrespect. When I feel myself "talking back," it's because my brain still reacts to the unfairness I dealt with at Lake Louise. But I fight for myself now because back then, I only had me (and my parents) to rely on. Leaving that school made me tougher and unwilling to tolerate mistreatment from anyone and I genuinely hope anyone there now who's being treated like I was finds their way to the other side too.

Amazing, talented, big-hearted teachers that give lots of individual attention to each student. Spirited and engaging athletic program. Beautiful faith formation with real attention paid to ethics and good behavior for all students. Academically and developmentally, St. Al's gives kids a big head start on high school and beyond -- we see it year after year in the graduates. Who would think to write a review for a religious institution -- this Blogger! Having been an…read moreattendee of Saint Alphonsus since infancy, I believe I can be as honest as one in confessional. Structurally, the church itself is spacious, beautiful, and modern. As for the services, I enjoy listening to invited priests or deacons giving homilies that have personality due to their sharing of personal experiences. The congregation is a mixture of ages and nationalities; plus, the once a month children's mass is delightful and good for any soul to witness. Oh... and their annual German fest is always a barrel of fun! If you are seeking a parish to attend, open the doors to St. Alphonsus Church - where the casual and classy crowd worship with no judgments.
