Finding this Doctor was a godsend. My mother was and still is in between health insurance and could NOT be seen by a Dr. without having to go to urgent care or the ER which is ridiculous because she didn't need to go to either. She just wanted to get a quick check-up and have her prescription re-filled before going out of state for a while. Nothing life-threatening. This Doctor is local, affordable and the care he provided was excellent. I was able to get my mom an appointment the next day. He took his time to explain things so we have a better understanding of what my mom is going through health-wise and how we could help her. I just called Dr. Konstantin's office to schedule a quick office visit because I have a bad cough and need some prescription cough syrup. The receptionist very quickly (so quick that it was odd) told me that Dr. Konstantin does not prescribe any cough syrup with codeine. I was very surprised as prescription Robitusin A-C is STANDARD protocol for coughs, not to mention very effective. Why would a doctor adopt a blanket refusal to prescribe a very common and safe medicine? I see he did this with another reviewer regarding another prescription medicine. It's almost as if he assumes patients are drug-seeking. Think twice before calling for an appointment because if what you need is not on his list of approved medications, you'll be out of luck. As a quick followup, I was able to make an appointment with another urgent care facility in Walnut Creek where, upon examination from a doctor, I received the appropriate prescription without any trouble whatsoever. They could clearly tell I was suffering from a bad cough and was not drug-seeking. I am now feeling better but the whole process was ridiculous. I had to drive 15 miles just to obtain an appropriate prescription. My question to Dr. Konstantin is, why do you refuse, as a matter of policy, to prescribe certain medications? read more

I couldn't have been happier with this doctor. Having recently quit a job with benefits (don't ask, please), I was left with a sore throat that had lasted over a month before I realized I needed to do something, but I was unsure what to do, because I was used to having cushy Kaiser to fall back on. I found this Dr. on Yelp, and after reviewing some of my other options (paying full price at Kaiser, Concentra, etc), I decided, why not? I made an appointment for like 3 o'clock because I had some other things going on that day, but knew I would be able to safely make it at that time. Same day appointment? Nice. Then, around 11:30, when I was done with what I had going on, I called again to see if I could change my appointment, which I really didn't think would happen. The woman I spoke to just told me to come on in. I asked if there was much of a wait, and she said it should be fine. Pffft, yeah, right, it's not your hour that's gonna be wasted waiting, but I went in anyway. Drove up, and it was a little house. Three was parking right in front, which, of course, was stellar. I walked in, and introduced myself as the appointment switcher. She had me sit down and fill out a short form. When I got up to turn in the form moments later, I was met by the Dr. He had me come on in to the exam room and I explained the issue. He was a real cool customer, listened to me, didn't seem like he was in a massive hurry like the docs at Kaiser always did, and then we leveled with me, told me my options, we talked it out, and came to a joint decision about what to do (antibiotics for a sinus thing, in case that sounded more ominous that it really was). I asked him about the price of the drugs and he got on the horn with what he felt was the least expensive pharmacy and got me something he thought would that was relatively cheap. He also ASKED ME if the amount he was charging me was okay. It was like $40 or something. I mean, shit, at Kaiser I had to pay $20 anyway, and was also paying monthly for insurance. Good deal. I'm saying all this to say, if you're one of the unwashed and uninsured masses like myself, and you need to see a doc, this is a good way to go. It makes me feel a lot more confident about being uninsured (not that I would recommend that). Make sure Dr. Konstantin does not discriminate against any medical conditions you may have before being wooed by his glowing Yelp reviews. I recently moved to the East Bay from the South Bay and needing a new family practitioner I contacted Dr. Konstantin's office, based on his very favorable Yelp reviews. I have a diagnosis of A.D.D. by my old doctor, given when I went to him some eight years ago (in my mid fifties) concerned about small memory lapses. At the time of diagnosis I tried a variety of non-amphetamine based treatments which either were not efficacious or had intolerable side-effects (or both). Being in a very relaxed work environment at the time where my A.D.D. was hardly detrimental to my performance and not wanting to get onto amphetamine based treatment, (I was not looking for a pharmaceutical 'buzz') I chose to simply carry on without medication. A year ago I moved into a job with a very intense "get stuff done" culture and my A.D.D. prevented me from performing at the required level. So I finally went back to my doctor and asked if I could try the amphetamine salts treatment I had avoided for eight years. He prescribed a very low dose, time-release Adderall. I don't use it at weekends, or on vacation: only for workdays. I have been taking it for about six months and my work performance has improved by orders of magnitude. When I mentioned my one repeat prescription requirement to Dr Konstantin's receptionist, as I tried to make my first appointment, I was cut off with a curt "Dr Konstantin does not prescribe Adderall, so there is no point in coming to see him. You should get a different family practitioner!" I myself firmly believe that amphetamine salts like Adderall and Ritalin are overprescribed for kids today as a "quick fix" for normal kid [mis-]behavior that should be addressed by better parenting, but there was no discussion about my particular needs, just a flat refusal to prescribe a treatment that has helped me hold down, and grow, in a very high pressure job. A shame that such a highly recommended doctor turns out to be one that allows personal bias to shade his medical decisions. read more

I saw Dr. Konstantin today for an ear infection that has been bothering me for over a week. I put off going to the doctor because my insurance plan has a $150 copay for doctor visits and I was not looking forward to waiting in an urgent care clinic waiting room for 2+ hours before being seen by a physicians assistant instead of an actual doctor (this was my last experience at US health works in Berkeley, don't go there). So I was just going to wait for my body to fight off the infection. I'm glad I decided see Dr. Konstantin instead. He's perfect if you don't have insurance or have bad coverage like me. He charged $40 cash for the visit and I was in and out of there with the prescription I needed in an hour as a walk-in. Cheaper and faster than urgent care, and a waaaay better experience than a free clinic. He's a super nice guy who really cares about his patients and even asked for my soundcloud url so he could check out my music when I told him that I'm a musician. I'm a parent with no insurance--have a job offer pending on my ability to get a TB and physical. Job gave me a list of free clinics throughout the bay. Going down the list to call and NO ONE took new patients until April (yes. April. It's currently August). So, in my frustration of calling, waiting and calling again, I turned to yelp. Typed in TB test and Dr. Konstantin is who came up. I'm SO glad he was available because waiting on this test will not cost me my new job. I go to get it read on Friday and will be able to turn in the results so I can get some real scrilla in my pocket!! He's awesome, kind, informative and positive. Nursing school requirement is 2 step TB test. Didn't want to schlep to city to doc's office so looked around here in east bay. Minute Clinic at CVS sounded promising but they don't take insurance and each visit was $38. Requires 3-4 visits. Approximately $120-150! Even if it was $80 to get shot twice...still steep. Went to Dr. Konstantin office and was seen immediately. The medical assistant took good care of me and explained their process for 2 Step TB test. Very friendly. Total cost: $30. Had a very good experience at my appointment with Dr Konstantin. I needed a USCG physical to renew my credentials, I was referred by another mariner as my Kaiser insurance will not do DOT or USCG physicals. I have paid more than double what Dr Konstantin charges for prior physicals. The doctor and his staff were prompt, professional and to the point, he also helped me with the proper USCG forms.
