It is housed in a rather picturesque building dating from the 1920s, though it has been expanded and improved since. Hampton Hill Junior School educates pupils from years 3 - 6 (ages 7 - 11), and is linked with Carlisle Infant School (meaning that in most cases, pupils will finish Carlisle in year 2 and progress fairly seamlessly with their classmates into HHJS). The headteacher, Bill Jerman, is excellent. He is a strong leader, taking no guff from the children! He impressed me particularly when my daughter attended. I was writing a paper (I was a mature student doing a part time degree) on religious education and collective worship, and asked, after a parent teacher evening, if I could attend a 'normal' (as opposed to harvest) assembly. He told me I could, and we arranged a date. It occurred to me afterwards that I hadn't told him who I was. I arrived on the appointed day, worried that no-one would be expecting me, but sure enough, he greeted me, got me settled before the children arrived, and then discussed the yearly assembly programme and RE scheme of work after the assembly. My daughter had good teachers with a couple of truly excellent ones. The school runs extension programmes for gifted children which benefited my daughter, and also taught French (in a fun, non pressurised way) to its year 6 pupils. All in all, this is a very good state junior school, which prepares its pupils admirably for secondary school and beyond.

Sadly this C of E primary school can no longer be classified as a happy place. Parents who merely treat it as a babysitting service are the other problem. I honestly believe this is a great school which has improved massively over the last few years…read more Pupils have been getting above average scores in all subjects and the school is now one of the best primary schools in Westminster. This wonderful school has many pros. First, the location. The school's location just a few hundred meters from Paddington Station and Praed Street (Which leads to Edgware Road and then on to Oxford Street) is a fantastic area for after school treats and parent coffee areas with McDonalds, KFC, Subway and many other brands having stores around that area. Second, the size of the school. The schools pupil capacity of 120-140 makes a very small school by Westminster standards but this means the teacher knows each pupil well which helps when a pupil is failing as the teachers can focus on this child and give any needed assistance. The size also means that disputes between pupils do not go unheard by the teachers and are almost always settled in moments. Third, the determination of the students that go to the school to achieve high grades. Piano, Violin, Chess and Football are just four of the many after-school clubs the school has. All subjects are taught well by the teachers. Students receive rewards (Either a certificate or a community service award, which essentially is a badge given every term to 1-3 pupils of each class for good acts towards the community e.g. tidying up the class, opening doors for teachers) every Friday and this helps to motivate both those who got a reward to reach higher goals and those who didn't to push hard enough to get one. The school has no cons that are worth mentioning. It is multicultural in more ways then one (Over 1/2 of the students are Islamic or of other faiths and over 70 nationalities are based in the school), kind, connects with parents very well and is just a fantastic school overall. The support they give you if your child is being bullied is very ineffective and our daughter as suffered daily abuse and physical abuse!
