Love the concept of the wall, but so sad to see how much graffiti has destroyed the wall. For example, the mirror with his face has been completely covered with various stickers, you can NOT see any part of him. Hard to really look at.....
The John Lennon Wall symbolizes freedom of speech and the non-violent resistance of the Czech youth. The wall started in 1980, shortly after Lennon was murdered. Although John Lennon never visited the location of the wall, it was crafted as a symbolic burial site by the youth of Prague. Very cool that it's still here after 40 years. It definitely doesn't look like it did back then; it is constantly changing as new art is added over old art. Only con now is that you cannot see his face any longer as it has been completely covered. Once again arrive early to avoid tour groups.
I loved the graffiti and the message of peace and love on the John Lennon Wall. Spent time smiling in looking at the layers of art and song lyrics written there. And, for the rest of about 2 blocks of the wall, I walked through Czech's history of political liberalization and of protests of the time! CHEERS!
Yelp Review 2023 #86: Located between two museums: Kampa and Kafka, is this wall. The art installations I wanted to see while I was in Prague were blocked due to construction. Since I was already in the area, I decided to stop by Lennon Wall. Nobody was there at 7am. My mom was a Beatles fan so I'm familiar with them and Yoko Ono and all that. But I failed to see how this place is a landmark and tourist attraction. Graffiti is a modern expression of political sentiments. In the late 1980's, Czechs turned to this wall. It's been painted on, repainted over and over. Sure, it's colorful but I've been to many cities with much more impressive graffiti. It's free. It's there. Go visit or not. But don't make it a priority to see this wall. Trust me, there's plenty of free things you can do and see in Prague.
Groovy wall of street art dedicated to John Lennon. It was interesting, but not a big "wow", unless you're a die hard Beatles fan. Its not far from the western end of the Charles Bridge and easy to find with Google Maps or following any one of the large tour groups. Lots of people trying to take pictures of course, so be patient!
Graffiti art with history! A great pop by to drop by and stroll through the streets of the wall! I was here when it was being remodeled. Nonetheless, a wonderful spot to be and learn the culture!
What am I looking at? Don't take a plane just to see this please. It's lots of street art and of course a John Lennon art piece. I went at night so it wasn't crowded. I guess since I didn't grow up listening to the Beatles I don't have many emotions towards it. See it, take a pic and move on to the CASTLE or DEGAS Art gallery or the famous astronomical clock. Just my opinion...
This is a great piece of history to check out when in Prague. The wall art is beautiful, and it's a great spot that's really easy to find. If you want a clear photo, I recommend getting there early in the morning.
I love street art because it's free, it's usually politically charged, and it's ever-changing. The John Lennon Wall is worth a stop if you're in Prague. Be forewarned that it's a lot smaller than you'd expect and much of it is covered it ugly graffiti and swear words instead of art that's meaningful, but the wall's charming rough-around-the-edges, colorful glory is beautiful in its own right. Be sure to research the history of the wall, it's pretty rad. And all my fellow pacifists: don't forget to flash a peace sign in John's memory.
Love, Love, Love! This is such a cool idea! Someone who owns this big wall by the Charles Bridge decided to make it an homage to the memory of John Lennon! Anyone can graffiti on this wall, but John Lennon type graffiti is encouraged! When I went, they had a portrait of John, along with anti-Trump works, and pro-Hong Kong graffiti, which made it sorta political. I made sure to draw my own graffiti and tag it up. Around the corner, there was a guitarist at the Love Locks Bridge playing Beatles songs, and the John Lennon Pub. The neighborhood asks that you not graffiti anything other than the wall, and leave the trees alone, which is a reasonable request. The coolest thing about this wall is that since it's been painted over so many times, that it's centimeters thick in layers of paint, and if you're lucky, you can find these stratified layered paint chips that look other worldly. If you're a Beatles fan, this is a must-see. It's an ongoing art project that seemed well coordinated and thoughtfully done. It seems that there was some coordination between the artists, the stuff I saw was pretty recently painted, and not covered in gibberish tags.
In A Nutshell: -The John Lennon Wall was just okay to check out. -It's basically a graffiti representation of the face of "peace" during that time of the Czech Republic's history. -If you want to get a clear photo, I would suggest walking here early in the morning. Overall, it's easy to find and worth checking out in the small town of Prague.

As the wall was painted and the graffiti was white washed, the following day it was painted again. Today, it carries messages of love and peace.
John Lennon never visited Prague. However, one of the most photographed places in the Czech capital is the John Lennon Wall. John Lennon, legendary member of Liverpudlian band The Beatles and one of the all-time greats of music, has been a symbol of the pacifist movement since the 1970s. This wall has been a way for people to express their thoughts during all kinds of times, Communism, Oppression, etc. Despite being painted over by the authorities time after time, the graffiti soon reappeared. This continued repeatedly from 1980 onwards, with messages and pacifist drawings that were a source of irritation for the government. Messages included song lyrics by Lennon himself and The Beatles and also inspirational and activist slogans promoting world peace. Young Czechs began to experience an awakening and found their own personal placard in the wall. The wall became a true memorial to the musician's legacy and a place where people could write slogans supporting peace, the environment and solidarity. Today, anyone can leave their mark or message on this unusual wall. Every day there might be new graffiti on it so it always has a different look. read more

The John Lennon Wall is a pretty neat little wall that essentially has graffiti all over it and changes nearly on a daily basis. The wall itself is pretty cool to look at as it boasts some extremely bright colors and for some reason makes you think. The wall is actually fairly small and does have some vulgar writing on it which makes it a bit less appealing IMHO. Overall its worth a trip to snap a couple of pictures but I wouldn't come to this particular attraction expecting greatness. I LOVE this wall of graffiti. A must, must, MUST visit for anyone planning a trip to Prague. It's a moving exhibit of ever-evolving art centered around the hope for peace. You'll find inspirational phrases, lyrics, and a bunch of people who signed their names. It will never look exactly the same, which is so cool to me. I originally visited in 2010 and returned recently. The cool portrait of John Lennon is gone but there's plenty of other neat tributes in its place. I know it's a touristy move, but I'd also recommend a visit to the John Lennon Pub after your wall visit, even if just for a little while. They have awesome beer, a good food menu, awesome art, and fair prices to boot. Big fan! read more

I mean.... it's cool and all, colorful and great for your instagramable moments, but it's like, it's just a wall. I read the significance behind the wall, inspiring, but unless you happen to be walking by or maybe you're a huge Lennon fan, there's other sites more interesting. read more

Can I be honest and say I don't think Lennon would be super impressed by the bullshit folks are writing on this wall and then taking selfies in front of? It appears that this used to be a wall filled with inspiring quotes of unity but now that wall is filled with "f**k this" and other less than inspiring slurs. This spot lacked the peaceful reflection I had hoped for expected from a memorial to Lennon. Regardless, only a few blocks off the Vltava River you'll find the Lennon wall on a quiet unsuspecting side street. It's a jumble of graffiti and notes that I imagine were once about love and acceptance but now it's basically a jumble of phrases with f**k attached to them. I suppose I sound cynical but it hurt my heart a bit. If you go there, please add a note of love on my behalf. I arrived unprepared. read more

You don't need to be a Beatles fan to appreciate the heartfelt artistic tribute to one of the great musicians of our lifetime. This is urban art at it's best and respect to this great city for allow the graffiti to remain on these walls. It is just paint on concrete but seeing the contributions of many makes you realize that there is a common thread in humanity. We all want to imagine a better world and John Lennon inspired us to dream it up and also to make it happen. No time better than the present for us to dig down and do something daily that will help bring the vision to life. All that said this is one of the better instagram-able photo ops in the city. Even in the gloomy rain. You're going to get mad likes, I guarantee it. read more

If you have time, cross the Charles Bridge and take a short walk to find the John Lennon Wall. This wall was known for its graffiti art based on Lennon-inspired lyrics on peace. However, nowadays people have also spray painted messages on other global issues. The artwork on the wall is still worth checking out. Note that the wall changes all the time. It keeps getting repainted over. One day it can be bare white, and the next it can be completely covered. When I was there, there was a guy singing and playing Beatles songs. read more

Beautiful wall full of graffiti/art walking distance from other popular landmarks in Prague. My favorite part is the guy with the guitar playing Lennon's songs as visitors stop by. The wall is rather smaller but still adequate for grand pictures. Most of the graffiti here seems to cover what could've been better in the past- the top of the walls were my favorite because it reflected the message of John Lennon and seemed to be uncovered by people wanting to leave their marks. Regardless, the wall was great to look at and to read. read more
We stopped by here on May 10th' 18 during our vacation in Prague. There were a lot of people there and you have to wait in line and find a space for taking your photo. The Lennon Wall or John Lennon Wall is located close to Charles Bridge in Prague, Czech Republic. Once a normal wall, since the 1980s it has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles' songs. The wall itself is colorful and beautiful to see with bright vibrant colours & paintings. Now, a lot of people have put their own mark on the wall with tags and other quotes and so it's less of a 'John Lennon' wall. I recommend if you have fifteen minutes of your time and plus it's also a free attraction. Further down from the wall is the Lovers Bridge where you can leave a padlock on the fence with your and your loved ones name on it. After you cross the bridge you will find the John Lennon pub. read more

Make your way here after you've fought with a million tourists while crossing the charles bridge. The alleyways around this place are quaint and cute, and are as much fun as the main wall itself. The graffiti keeps changing is what I'm told, and it is a great place for a photo-op! read more

Although smaller than I thought it would be, this bright, vibrant wall is worth a visit before crossing the Charles Bridge into Old Town. When I went it was mainly covered with graffiti art, but had some inspiration quotes and messages mixed in. I like how the wall changes constantly as it gets painted over and people keep adding to it daily. In the late evening during the week there was a fair amount of people there taking pictures or just gazing at the wall. However, taking pictures in front of the wall wasn't difficult at all. read more

The youth of the 80's painted this wall currently owned by the Knights of Malta. I was filled with inspirational quotes and song lyrics about peace, love back in the day, but now it's filled with none sense. I read that it keeps changing, and people keep adding different types of art. I'm still a fan because I like graffiti art. Hopefully, someone will add something more positive and inspiring. read more

A visit to this wall is a must when in Prague. Go back the next day and see how it changes with new urban art. Early evenings are best for fewer crowds and a more chill experience, especially if someone is busking some good tunes. Good times in Czech Republic! read more
In the 1980's Czech youth painted a portrait of John Lennon on this wall in Prague, along with song lyrics and inspirational quotes. Despite attempts to cover the graffiti, art continued to spring up until the Knights of Malta (current owners of the wall) gave up trying to get rid of it and let the painting continue into the evolving project it is today. Our tour guide told us ahead of time that one of the coolest parts of the wall was the fact that it changes each time he comes back to visit as new pieces are added. Even as we stood there we watched it transform as other tourists, and us once we borrowed the spray paint, added our marks. Layer upon layer of sharpie and paint on the wall have come to represent peace, love and freedom - and it's a really awesome thing to see. Although this wall may not satisfy your needs to see super artistic graffiti, and not everything is themed on John Lennon anymore, the majority of the wall (at least at the time I saw it) still does embody the peace and love aspects that it was originally created for. It's a short walk away from the bridges, and is definitely a neat little spot to stop to add some color to your foggy day. read more

Honestly, the John Lennon Wall is a bit of a let-down for me especially given the hype behind this place for visiting Prague. First of all, most of the traditional John Lennon Wall designs were completely overwritten by newer and worse graffiti, which does not make sense. I am not sure how this wall is maintained, but whoever is doing the new graffiti update to the wall is doing an extremely poor job. Given the famous nature of this wall, there is an unusually large crowd. Most people are walking around with selfie-sticks or asking their friends to take a good photo. So be prepared to wait a while if you want the crowds to clear. But as I mentioned, the wall is now a mess, so I am not sure if there is much aesthetic value left in visiting this. read more
Eh, it's a graffiti covered wall, not the coolest thing there is to see in Prague, but I can vibe with what it stands for. You'll see many tourists posing in front of it, and it is definitely a cool place for a portrait, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make sure I see it. The area it is in is great for just strolling on your way to get to the Prague castle area, easy to get lost though. read more
