Overall, we had an excellent experience with McGowan & Sons. Our front and rear masonry had all kinds of issues, ranging from cracks and missing parts of our front stoop, to loose tiles in the back. Jim came and gave us an initial estimate and we moved forward. While it took longer than expected to schedule the work (the only negative part of the experience), Jim periodically called us to update us on timing and even came by again to reconfirm the exact work we needed. On the day of work, Jim and his team arrived early and the crew did an excellent and precise job. The masonry really looks and feel brand new. We are very happy with the work that was done and would recommend them to our friends. Ultimately, it was very worth the wait. We have been ghosted by this company for reasons I do not know. We inquired about a simple sealing/crack filling for a rectangular driveway. An estimator came a few days later and left his card. We called when we didn't receive the estimate. The call wasn't returned. We weren't asking them to pave the LIE. This is a strange way to do business. We got an estimate on the spot from a competitor, but we held off hoping to use a local business. read more

Contracted with McGowan & Sons for a driveway and walkway to be paved with paving stone, the stoop repaired and re-stucco the foundation on the front of my house along with the side of one step of the repaired stoop. Aside from breaking my sprinkler line in two places, hitting and denting the frame of my garage with a backhoe and seriously damaging my front lawn and back yard the quality of the work left a lot to be desired. When we asked if the masons worked for him, Jim McGowan stated he's been with them for twenty years. What he meant was he has worked with them for 20 years they are subcontractors who have no idea of what is contained in the contract and only do what they are told to do by their boss. They had no idea of any stucco to be done so when the pavers were completed they left without doing the stucco. I called Jim McGowan and told him and he sent someone from his company to do the stucco work. We asked if he knew how to do stucco work James said that he was the #1 stucco man. The foundation was to be done with beige stucco. The #1 stucco man ran out of the beige dye mid job. He had to call the office and have someone bring more. When he brought mixed it he didn't mix it properly and I have patches of light brown on one half of the foundation in the front of my house. It resembles a giraffe. No one told #1 stucco man about the side of the step needing stucco so he left without doing it. I made a number of calls to Mr. McGowan over a number of weeks and he kept promising someone would come to finish the job but no one came. That was 8 months ago. My husband ended up doing the stucco on the step himself. There are numerous areas between the pavers that have no poly sand. We told the owner of the mason company the day that the job was completed when it stopped by to look at the job. He agreed the pavers needed more sand but never did anything about it. I called Jim McGowan about a month ago to tell him now I am pulling out grass growing from between the pavers. He said he would personally come and add poly sand. I jokingly said will you be here anytime this year? I guess it wasn't a joke! He still hasn't come! Think twice about hiring this company! read more
