The office staff however, is another story. They refuse to do simple things like following up with insurance to get prior authorizations for medications they prescribed. I have one medication that was prescribed 2 months ago that they still haven't submitted the paperwork for. When I called to tell them that insurance still hadn't received the paperwork, and to ask that they send a new prescription to the pharmacy so I could buy it out of pocket (because I actually need the meds...) they intentionally hung up on me. Several weeks later, they sent me a letter in the mail saying they are dropping me as a patient. I guess they only take patients that don't require paperwork. I recognize that those of us with chronic illnesses are more work, but that doesn't mean we deserve to be dropped just because some of our medications require prior authorizations. Also, if you're considering David Ottolenghi (the other doctor at the practice) beware, he doesn't believe in vaccines... I sure wouldn't want a doctor who trusts politicians over science.

Its like this: finding a great doctor is not easy, and once word gets out they tend to get busy and overbooked, which thus tends to diminish their ability to offer great service. I started going to Dr. Kurth a couple of months ago, and since that time, my partner, brother, sister-in-law, and nephew have all started going. He's a flat out, no screwing around great doctor. He spends as much time as you need him to spend with you, answers all of our crazy questions, and is a genuinely caring doctor. Every time I go in (and to avoid too much detail, lets just say I'm one of those folks with a thousand medical issues), he pretty much remembers everything about me, from my lab results to family history to current meds. He could look it up on the computer, but he rarely needs to. I usually spend about 30 minutes with him each time I go in, and longer if necessary, and I always walk away feeling great. Here's an example of a recent encounter: My nephew had been going to Fort Collins Youth Clinic, and every time he was sick they would simply say "Oh, give it a few days and he'll be fine." (this was after he had been sick for a few days already). We went to Dr. Kurth last week when the kid was sick, he gave him a shot, prescribed medications, and the kid was great the next morning. Anybody who has ever had a sick kid knows that this kind of recovery from a cold isn't the norm, but at least Dr. Kurth did something that helped instead of shrugging his shoulders and dismissing us offhand. The staff here are great as well. They've always managed to get me in same day whenever I've called. I've never waited longer than 5-10 minutes from the moment I enter the waiting room till I'm back in the exam room being seen by the doctor. I'm used to waiting 30-60 minutes or more in a doctors office, so this is a major plus in my book. If you're looking for a great doctor and medical practice, these folks are golden.

The old, CREDIBLE, "real" Banner family practice on Harmony is a DIFFERENT PRACTICE, & has…read morereportedly closed. The new Banner ER & adjacent "medical center" located on Harmony & LadyMoon Drive, is what 9 News & other media outlets have warned consumers about in late 2015. The new Banner "ER" is a freestanding, Urgent Care-type of clinic, which ends most times up being "cash only", but does not advertise this to the patient (*AKA: "PAY-tient"). I experienced everything in this review, as in all of my reviews, both positive & negative, 'first hand. Not only was my medical condition untreated, but my medical records (which are permanent & cannot be altered once an MD signs off on them) were drastically amended w/grossly negligent, false information & 'statements' from the few treating staff present. The parties accompanying me witnessed the falsity of the reported information, & are now valuable witnesses to affirm what truly happened during my visit. I strongly suspect that the amending of my patient notes/visit record occurred because I repeatedly inquired re: billing/insurance topics. I was NEVER approached by a billing representative, as happens normally in a TRUE hospital/ER setting, & was given no opportunity to present my insurance card. When I volunteered my card, it was repeatedly refused; I was told it would be addressed "later". That raised a red flag, & I remembered the report I saw on 9 news about the stand alone ER's, which are not affiliated with any REAL hospital. They frequently end up demanding cash payment, out of pocket, after a patient leaves the building, claiming insurance was never presented or accepted. I pressed on this topic, even through my pain, fever, & other symptoms, because I was highly concerned. Still, I was refused repeatedly, for the duration of my 13 hour stay. Earlier that very same day, I had an apptmt at the Banner Medical "Center", on the same campus, which is a collection of doctors' offices all under one roof. Yet oddly enough, the ER, a "sister" establishment on the same campus, w/supposedly a shared database, could not pull my records to even get my dr.'s name, notes, treatment plan...'Nothing!?! This should have readily been obtainable from my same day visit at the medical practice on the VERY same campus, w/the VERY SAME name & logo, 'literally yards away, across the lawn. I have NEVER heard of anything like this!?! When I asked for a patient advocate, I was told that no such individual exists. When I first entered, I was in so much pain that I unfortunately signed an electronic consent to treat. The minutiae of legalese cannot be read by the patient when signing this consent, only a signature line is viewable, so the "new" Banner can treat you ANY way they see fit (*meaning ordering highly expensive MRI's, X-rays, & lab work, which may well be unnecessary & end up billable out of your pocket, according to their legal contract(s), which is unavailable to the suffering patient upon entering the building). Again, I experienced this directly, as a "pay-tient" of this new Banner facility. I've since met 2 other individuals with highly similar experiences at this location. This "ER" is not the old Banner medical system that was well loved. There are many profit-based practices doing this: 'purchasing old properties (such as former Blockbuster locations) & building them into Urgent Care/instant ER's, without an legitimate, adjacent hospital, with limited staff, & absent a true hospital setting. This place is nothing like PVH nor MCR (real hospitals, real ER's). You may very well end up paying hundreds & thousands of dollars, b/c they refuse to address your insurance benefits, despite verbally stating that many insurances are accepted upon entry. I am still dealing w/billing, have reported this facility to DORA & am checking on their license. I'm constantly transferred to Arizona when I call billing, as this is a franchise (*just like Subway or anything else). It seems clearly an independent business for profit only, & patient care comes last. When I challenged them on the billing once I was lucid & realized based on observations from the parties accompanying me that it was not a credible institution, they were furious. Upon questions re: the hourly billing outpatient status, I was promptly discharged, w/out any addressing of the issue I ignorantly trusted they would treat. My medical record was amended negatively & filled w/false information, as "punishment ", I suppose (?). Apparently, avoiding a waiting period in a traditional hospital ER is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, because that is how they justify the charges they ring up. 'Stay away! You will likely end up mortgaging your home, accruing tremendous debt, ruining your credit score, & possibly leaving untreated, with permanent remarks in your medical record from medical staff who operate in a seemingly unethical & financially motivated manner.
