My wife and I love John's Best Pizza. We stopped in on our way home to Bethel a few months ago and found the pizza was what we have missed for years. I came here a few weeks ago because it is on the way home from Westconn for me. The restaurant itself looks really nice, it has definitely been renovated since I came a few years ago when I was first checking out the Westconn Campus. I went here around 4pm on a Monday so i expected it to be slow. The booths are huge and the staff is very friendly. Our food came out a bit slow considering we were the only ones there. I did see them do a few takeout orders though while we waited, sothey were probably ahead of us. The food is decent, much better than their Wilton location (never step foot in there if you can avoid it). I would give a higher rating, but when you walk in there there is an overwhelming musty/mold smell. It was also super cold, especially the bathroom! It was like the entire building had not heat. I also dont really understand what is going on with this company in general. We used to have a location in Norwalk which I loved, they closed for renovation and never re opened. The westport location which was also great closed un expectedly. I dont see why they keep the crappy ones open and close the good ones, just doesnt make sense to me. read more

Our Favorite Pizza in the Neighborhood Having just moved to CT we were on the hunt for some good pizza. Tried a couple places and we're sticking with John's Best. Our regular waiter, Edwin, takes excellent care of us. We love the Pizza with Sausage and hot peppers. Thin crust ,not over oily and hits the spot. We also always get one of their clam dishes; either the baked or sauteed in lemon,oil, herbs. Sorry to hear it get such bad reviews. Maybe they've changed chefs. Give it a try. read more

My family is from Southern Italy so I grew up with authentic Italian cooking. I am not a fan of chain restaurants so avoided visiting John's Best for quite a while. Upon our first visit, I realized that this was a chain restaurant in name only. I was thrilled when our food was served and thought I was back in my Grandmother's kitchen. I have returned many times since and am always delighted with the quality of the food, the authentic menu, sauces, soups, seasonings, the large portions and the friendly, warm service. I am going to keep this short and simple...for pizza, one of the WORST We have ever had. Ordered a special there once called "risotto" for $18.95 and it was not what I know risotto to be and know-it-all waiter insisted to me that is what risotto is in Italian. Hope he knew he was getting a crappy tip too! They should really reconsider naming this John's Nightmare since calling it John's Worst wouldn't quite describe its true potential. John's Best Pizza lives up to its name! Even if you want to become a vegetarian to be healthy or to wiggle into a bikini, just try their "Meat Lovers Pizza" and there's no way that's happening. This is by far one of the tastiest pizza's I've had in years! Located on "Ethan Allen Hwy" (which is just another way of saying "Route 7", it looks like a simple highway pizza chain, but walk into the dining room and you are surrounded by natural light and large windows that look over a green belt along the river. I once thought "Who would want to sit at an outdoor patio along Route 7?" but after rush hour when the traffic dies down, all you'll hear is conversations and the gurgling river. What a nice surprise! Great pizza and a very nice environment! I thought I didn't like pizza anymore (except for Julian's Brick Oven in Westport, CT) - I'd tried every pizza place in Ridgefield and had given up... until I told my boyfriend the other night when we were looking to get some food after 10 pm, "There's one place I haven't tried, John's Best on Route 7"... so we went and already four days later on route home from work I turned my car around to go back there and get another pizza. That's saying a lot. Other pizzas in town have flavorless dough or flavorless cheese or mediocre meet, or dough that is like rubber and chews forever without breaking down, others are greasy. John's Best is perfect! I thought it was a national chain but it turns out it's a local Connecticut chain with restaurants in Ridgefield, Brookfield, Wilton and Norwalk (those are the ones I'm aware of) and it is still owned and operated by the family who started it. I wish I could give this ZERO stars. 1. I had to talk to 3 different people when giving my order....1 for my number 2 for my order and 3 for my credit card number it was ridiculous! And when I asked why this happened the guy said "oh we're busy" makes no sense but ok 2. The delivery took over an hour (I understand it gets busy but we live about 5 min away) when I called to check on the order the guy said "oh he let 20 minutes ago" ok well I only live 5 minutes away so that's great now I know my food is going to be cold 3. The food is disgusting! The mozzarella sticks were barely even cooked and the fries were raw. Not to mention the garlic bread and pizza was cold. 4. I had mentioned before I placed my order that I had a $5 off coupon and the guy confirmed at the end that he took it off but when I got my order he hadn't so when I called he acted all confused and told me he wasn't sure and had to call me back...he still hasn't called me back and it's been 20 minutes. There are WAY better pizza places in Ridgefield. This was my first time trying this place and it will never happen again. read more

Just ordered a Margherita Pizza which says it comes with Fresh plum tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, fresh basil, olive oil, and Italian spices. What we got does not match the description or what a traditional Margherita Pizza is. No Fresh Plum Tomatoes - just a basic pizza with tomato sauce, a very little amount of mozzarella and some basil. When I called I was told that Fresh Plum Tomato = Tomato Sauce. So if your looking for a good Margherita pizza this is not it. They make good pizza but not a good Margherita Pizza. For a great Margherita try Romanacci Pizza across from the Westport train station. read more

This is the most under-rated restaurant in Ridgefield. We love coming here which we do 2 or 3 times a month. The food is excellent. Fresh homemade pasta that is perfect each time. Delicious sauces. Fresh vegetables cooked just right. The only place around here that reliably does fried calamari so it is light and tender. I could go on and on. I've ate here before and the food is on par with with the average pizza restaurant. The last time I ordered from them I used Uber Eats which projected 40 minutes. When the ETA went up to 2 hours I called John's Best. They immediately pointed out it wasn't their problem and I could either pick up the food or pay their delivery fee to have it brought to me. I ended up calling Uber and they refunded me. I know this is Ubers fault for not sending a driver, but it was John's Best's decision to go into business with Uber and I should not be penalized when their joint business processes fail. Offering a helpful solution instead of telling me I was screwed and had to pay their delivery fee on top of Ubers was very frustrating. read more

Pulled in and some guy standing in the lot working on his car turned a sign towards us indicating the parking was for customers only and didn't say a word. I said we are customers and he rolled his eyes. Needless to say we decided to leave and eat next door. Wow...this place is more than great pizza. Just had the weekday dinner special. A salad, glass of Chianti and Chicken Marsala for a great price. The salad was fresh and the Chicken Marsala was delicious made with fresh porcini mushrooms. The staff couldn't be friendlier and the owner, Maria is always sure to check in and make sure you have had a great meal. read more

A great take out place with very competitive prices and generous portions. Pasta dishes are enormous and almost always result in a meal for another day. Personal pizzas are fairly priced ($9.50 for Gourmet combos) with NY crust. The counter staff is friendly and food is ready quickly. The dine in experience for families and large groups is well accommodated. Couples or families with grown children will find it a bit loud. I have used them for HS athletic team meals and they deliver on time and are very well priced for this service as well. read more

I got calamari and it was great, and I also enjoyed the sauce. To me it tastes homemade like my grandmothers. I've had large pizzas with everything on it was delicious and I've had raviolis and it was great. It seems to be a family atmosphere! This is my favorite place to get takeout! read more

Sorry to the reviewer who thinks that a "great disparity of ratings" means this place is actually good. It is HORRID. The place has a moldy carpet that smells awful. The atmosphere is dark and dim and, sorry, not in a sexy way, more like in that murky, somethin's-gonna-get-ya-get-out-now way--oh, if only we'd listened. Would probably be great for an after funeral, subdued kind of thing. As for the steak dish we had (forgot the name, must be the PTSD) was something covered in a sauce, and the steak was tough. The service was okay on the night we went, but unfortunately, our clams posillipo made us SICK. (I'll spare you the details.) This used to be a great, lively, bright place that served Italian and Greek food once upon a time when our kids were Little League age. Well, those days and that restaurant is gone. Food was just okay but service was below mediocre. It was our first time going to this location and because I had a restaurant perk that I had purchase, I decided to give this place a shot as I love going to the John's Best location in Brookfield (they're not the same owner). I came with my family for a Sunday dinner and when we walked in to request for a table, two staff member saw us standing there and yet proceeded to walked right by us without a friendly "Hi, we'll be right with you". It seems as though they just couldn't be bothered. They weren't busy so we weren't sure it we just sit ourselves. We stood there for a good 2 minutes before anyone came to sit us. This first impression gave us a vibe that we were not going to foresee good service, but we continued to keep an open mind. We ordered the clam casino and they were not fresh at all. The fried calamari taste as though it was left over from the day before. The baked lasagna was ok, I could make better at home. The clam in my linguini clam was terrible. They were bad and you can smell the odor from them. The pizza was good but that was just about the only thing that was good there. I will not be returning to this location nor would I suggest this place to anyone. We were not at all impressed with the overall food and service we received. read more

Haven't eaten here since I was a kid. I have to be honest. I was pleasantly Surprised. Pizza was great and chicken parm grinder the best around. We recently moved back to CT from Long Island, which arguably has the best pizza in the country, and this place made us smile. Definitely our new go to for Italian delivery! read more

Great disparity in ratings here inI suggest that the poor ratings are not appropriate. Pizza is quite good and has a brick oven quality to eat. I had the veal parm plate and found it to be of excellent quality with the tomato gravy not sour and a hint of sweetness. Clearly a great bang for your buck in the town of Ridgefield. read more

Very reliable and great food. We usually get this one young man as our server and he is fantastic. He always has a warm and welcoming smile and greeting and he know what we like. I always appreciate it when a server knows what a customer likes. We always enjoy our food and the chef is pretty much always willing to accommodate a special order. Great reliable place.
