Quite some distance from the center, I was afraid to come in vain because the door was closed. However, the chef apologized that it was to keep the cold outside. And indead, indoor it was warm and cosy with maybe 10 guests on a thursday night. The biggest menu (€23) came with a fruity housemade coctail, followed by a starter of minced crab and salad with a balsamico dressing (for a tropical salad I would have chosen a lemon dressing). For the main dish I choose shark with ginger, that came with papaya, breadfruit and another vegetable I forgot. A lot of different tastes to savour and the dream away. Nice ! the desert was a white coconut cream and the coffee came with a sweet liquor. The chef is an enthousiastic islander that dances on the music while serving the dishes. Well worth the trip with the metro (10 minutes walk from station Bagatelle).

The staff speak good English if you are not a Francophone. The Black Lion has a large sitting out area if the weather is good and of course seating inside in the dining area if it is wet or cold. An added attraction on a Sunday is a large street market selling all kinds of articles so why not have a wander round, buy some things ,and then have a drink afterwards? The only flaw I found was that the toilets are downstairs and there is a rather steep staircase so be careful if you have had a wee bit too much of the Cup that Cheers. Also the Gents Toilet could do with redecoration. That apart, I would recommend The Black Lion to Visitors to Toulouse.

Shortly after I arrived in Toulouse, I was told by a coworker that the Classroom had "the best…read moreburger in Toulouse". I found out after I had one that he only said that because it was the only burger he had in Toulouse, but nevertheless I would argue that they do have a damn good burger. I was only in Toulouse for a short visit but in the few days I was there this was the only place that I became a "regular" in. The staff was extremely friendly, English speaking, and Simon somehow always managed to greet me like we had been friends for years even though we had only met once or twice in the past few days. I had a few different meals here, but my favorite was definitely the burger. One thing that was tough to get used to in Toulouse was that "cooked" meat meant it had been placed near a fire. Even for someone like me who prefers medium-rare steak, I had trouble getting used to how under-cooked they preferred their meat in Toulouse. The Classroom, however, understood the meaning off the word "medium" when I asked for my burger cooked that way, and that was very much appreciated. Overall, if I ever find my way back to Toulouse, I will definitely make my way over to the Classroom.

Le sud-ouest est bien sûr souvent sur la table : foie gras, truffes, volailles et gibiers, châtaignes ou cèpes... Le marché est fait par l'équipe du Pic auprès des artisans et producteurs locaux. Some fresh veggies and good pizza - all deliciously made.
