John's Chinese is one of the oldest take aways going in Blyth, Northumberland. I have gone there since 1982. I would say that it was one of the best chinese take aways however that was when it was run by John himself and he or his parents did the cooking! Sadly I would say that it is no longer the best, John has left the take away to open a Chinese restaurant in China town, Newcastle upon Tyne leaving the take away business to his son. The food is not as good as it used to be, I don't know if its to do with regulations on salt, MSG etc but it tastes bland. example: portion of mushrooms used to be button mushrooms cooked in a nice gravy, today you would get toadstools cut up served in a watery sauce (can't even call the sauce gravy). The curry sauce is also bland, not as spicy as it used to be + the prices are as dear as you can find in Blyth (if not thee most expensive chinese take away in Blyth). Food is lovely but over salty at times, used to go there every week but the prices keep going up,cant afford to go there anymore its a shame because the food is rather nice and the people on the phone actually understand english. 2£ just for the delivery is taking the p***. good food but greedy people. read more

good quality food at reasonable price, variety of dishes and usual chinese take away meals. staff were friendly tho and offered good service, generally no complaints. would come back again! read more
