Have passed a few times because we live in the area and was curious to try after seeing the food in the window and smelling it. Their are no prices or real menu to read from so we just ordered what we thought looked good. Ordering is kind of tough if you don't speak Spanish. The only thing that sucks about this joint is the name. The rotisserie chicken is so yummy...one of the best. My significant other and I got food to take out about a week ago. I was very pleased with the service, price, and food. I had the rotisserie chicken with arroz Moro and mangu on the side. I highly recommend all of these items. Flan for dessert was yummy. My bf had a beef dish with white rice which he said was very good. He also had a piece of tres leches cake for dessert, SO GOOD. The man that helped us was accommodating and spoke both English and Spanish fluently. He prepared all of the food with gloves on and removed them before ringing us up. All this and my bill was less than $20. I had a great experience and can't wait to go back. read more

This place is phenomenal! I usually eat here at least 2-3 times a month. The food is always fresh and tastes GREAT! I recently had a party for my daughters first birthday and Johns Fried Chicken catered the food for me and my guest LOVED it! The prices are also great! Pretty average Dominican food. Pernil and fried chicken are on point but there is better. Rice is ok but potato salad is Delish!!

Seriously, you're complaining about the staff not speaking English. It's about the food, and the food is awesome. I came for fried chicken and damn-it it is good fried chicken. The breading is not too thick, just a bit of heat and moist and tasty. Had all kinds of awesome sides to go with: rice and beans, sweet plantains, tasty pig bits (ok not a side but eat it anyway). Yes some staff could not speak english, but the manager stepped in, took great care of us. In this case I think the language gap is my problem, not theirs and if they gave you a hard time you deserved it for being a dick. We will be back, and back! read more

The rotisserie is really the best. Most of the food I've had is good and I usually go to the location in Gutenberg which is amazing. But the rice here is terrible. Tastes like chemicals and I think they probably use the oil from the fryer because I seriously couldn't eat it. Afterwards i felt like I had a burnt tongue it was terrible. I tried this place last night after pretty much everyone I know around here raved about it. There was a long line almost out the door so that is always a good sign.Don't let the name fool you barely anyone orders fried chicken here it's all about the rotisserie. It's set up cafeteria style so you order your chicken (in this case I got a half chicken combo) and you get a side and half a chicken for $6. a whole chicken by itself is $9, two half chicken combos was $12 which is a good deal in my opinion. The food was ok although the skin is very salty for my taste, the rice and black beans were kind of dry but we did go at 8:30pm so I guess they had been sitting a bit, the salads (shrimp,potato,crab) in the case looked like they'd been sitting a whole too, although I will say my boyfriend got yellow rice and pigeon peas and that was quite moist. We definitely have a lot of leftovers as the portions are huge. The only negative thing I can say is the place was not as clean as I would have liked, tables were dirty as well as the floor but it's pretty much a storefront set up with tables and chairs not a fine dining establishment by any means. Chicken is the best in town!! Don't get confused by the name..... The rotisserie chicken is the best.... Haven't really tried the fried chicken but I bet it's pretty good cause my friend always gets it..... Price is good and taste also..... But be prepared to wait at least 5 to 10 min before you can actually eat because the place gets packed at peak hours.... But it's definitely worth the wait if your in the mood for some good Latin food!! read more

As a food blogger, I normally visit random Hispanic restaurants in Union City , since this is one of the most popular places to eat around here, I'd like to express that service is not up to par. It was very crowded and only had two employees. I requested two items from the menu and I was denied the service. she stated "I'm sorry i am not going to make it because it takes time and there are only two of us". The employees seemed very unhappy and give negative feedback of their workplace. In order for a business to be successful, it needs a manager on site and an extra worker for the late shift. It is unsanitary when workers serve food and also server as the cashier without wearing gloves. The amount of food is great for the price but it doesn't complete the business on service. read more

The best Rotisserie chicken around! The chicken is a big one for $9. They cut it up for you and put marinated red onions on top. It's amazing! I have never had the fried chicken but that looks good. The sides are ok...I like white rice with black beans on the side. If Spanish is not your primary language (my problem) ordering can be a bit difficult, but it is so worth it! read more

The chicken is fantastic however I was denied service repeatedly on separate occasions by a server named Rosy. I've seen her along with the other servers talking negatively about paying customers whom she refused to serve for unknown reasons. Not sure if it's a language barrier or racism but it is extremely uncomfortable.....it is called John's Fried Chicken, if the sign outside reads in English, the servers should speak clear English as well. read more

This was very mediocre. We all had the rotisserie chicken, but it was very dry. The beans and rice was ok, but it was also dry. The maduros weren't very sweet and didn't seem to be cooked enough. This was disappointing after reading the other reviews. read more

Johns Fried chicken where they never have fried chicken every time I Go. I consider that false advertisement. I've gone to get fried chicken from there twice and they tell me they are out of chicken. Then I place an order to go and the server forgets to pack my rice. read more

It's a hit or miss here. Sometimes the chicken tastes good and other times it tastes old. All depends. Workers can be rude.

Great customer service. Ordered from here for a holiday meeting for a few people. I asked for the food to be ready around 5:30pm, so all I had to do was pick it up on my way to the meeting. We paid in advance and upon arrival the food was ready to go out the door. I ordered 3 rotisserie chickens and their recommended mixed salad. Everyone at the meeting loved their food. The gentleman Wellington was extremely nice and helpful and will return to eat their meals and or order for an event. read more
