I reached a point a few years back where the idea of painting rooms in my house was more than I could handle so I looked for someone to take over that task. Cannot say enough good things about John's Painting. We recently bought a new house and had the majority of the interior painted before we moved in. Once we were here for a couple of months we decided to have another room painted (the lack of fresh paint in this space was a far cry from the other rooms). At the start, we received a few different quotes and John's was comparable and cheaper than others. They were also able start and finish sooner than the other companies. We worked with Jeremy who was informative, prompt, and an overall nice guy. There were a few different crews that worked in the house. They were all very professional, courteous, and did a nice job prepping and cleaning up. There were a few minor things that needed to be addressed after the fact. I contracted 6 weeks in advance for my 3 day project to start on a certain date just after I returned from vacation. I re-confirmed 1 week ahead. They did not show nor return calls, text, or e-mail until late that afternoon. Owner claimed I never confirmed the date; I have e-mails! Owner blamed rain, busy, etc. and promised to work my project into his schedule. A few hours of prep work a few days later and crew promised to be back the next day. No show; I called and owner denied it and said soon; will work me into the schedule. I told him to forget it. I hired John's painting because they are local and I got quite a number of good reviews from friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, my experience was not so good. I hired them to do some painting and fix a popcorn ceiling. The painting was average, they missed some molding, denied they didn't paint it, and never came back to fix it. The popcorn ceiling was another story. They did a lousy job the first time, the material they used was so heavy that it actually fell off. Yerik, a supervisor I presume, then sent a smaller crew back a 2nd and 3rd time trying to adequately cover the area. They left it unfinished, saying that it had to be dry before they could apply another coat. More than 60 days have gone by and no further contact from Yerik. Clearly, they didn't know how to do this job correctly and have no interest in finishing it. Disappointed, is too weak a word. I paid cash. read more

John didn't back guarantee - We've used and recommended John's Painting on several occasions. After the last time in July 2017, we started to see paint peeling and chipping after 3 years. Due to the pandemic, we put off calling John until after the summer. John inspected in Sept. 2020 and said it was due to the condition of the siding but would call us with a restoration estimate and an estimate without restoration where he normally does cost sharing. We also had new siding in similar condition. John didn't call back or return our many calls between Fall 2020 to Spring 2021. We've moved on, but if you looking for someone to back their work, I recommend you use a different company. read more

I can't even give them 1 star. They are HORRIBLE and do not stand by their work. We had them paint our house in October. We thought it looked good but once the weather got nicer and we were spending time outside, we noticed they didn't paint behind one of the downspouts and also some of the white around our porch. I called them the first week of March and asked if they'd come fix it. I was promised I was on a "touch up list" and they'd come in April. By the middle of April I called and asked when they were coming, I was told the following week. They never showed!!! I continued to call and each time, John (the owner) promised he'd come "next week". Each week came and went and he came up with one excuse after another. During this waiting period, we started spending a lot more time outside and realized they didn't paint the underneath of each piece of siding either. They also got paint on our BRAND NEW PATIO that was just built land also on the BRAND NEW stucco on our garage. Once they finally came, they brought the wrong color! They said they don't write the paint color number on their records and receipts!!! John said he had 3 colors and chose the one he thought it was. Ok that's just ridiculous!‍ They also didn't leave a single drop of extra paint so we had no can to look at for the color number. ALSO, they power washed our patio and blasted all the grout between all the stones and now they're all shifting. I have to have the landscaper come and fix it! After MONTHS of arguing with him, he finally says to me, "I can't deal with you, you're too difficult" !!!!! This man strings me along since MARCH and says I'M difficult! I finally had to have my husband deal with him because he had me in tears saying it's basically our fault for not noticing it sooner! He is a HORRIBLE business man and I'd NEVER recommend them to even my worst enemy! He is extremely condescending and rude!! If I could give zero stars I would. Six WEEKS to sand and paint my exterior. Should have been 6 days - not 42- with an experienced, professional crew. Worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. First red flag - after a prompt initial estimate in March, in April I had to call several times to finalize the proposal. John said he would start before May 1 and had a great project manager, etc. Started May 14 at 2 pm. For the next four weeks, if they "showed", never more than two workers and most days they did not arrive until 1 pm. I had numerous calls and texts to John to ask when crew would show up - "mix up", "issue at paint store", "just finishing an interior job"- 3 sunny days in a row! These must be owners of the homes giving him 5 stars. Far worse, my home and yard were a mess for these 6 weeks- they threw trash in my garden beds, left it on the patio, had ladders and downspouts on my lawn and in my driveway. Left trash in the yard - in my shrubs, put equipment on flowers and killed them. No drop cloths - paint chips everywhere in my gardens, landscaping and driveway. After "starting" May 14, finally, on June 14 they put a coat of primer on. The next day, the 2 painters put one coat of paint on. John came by in the afternoon and insisted there were 2 coats but he would " put on a 3rd"- and sent them to paint in the pouring rain the next day. Paint was a mess and required them to come back the next week to finish. In addition, I gave him my paint colors on May 20- on June 14, he argued with me about the color I wanted for my front door. It didn't come in a sample and he refused to get a quart of it unless I used it - a $30 quart - for an $8400 paint job too much?? Oh yes, on pricing, John gave me a price range for the job, then said he would do everything and it would be beautiful for $7200. That changed. His project manager said we had to sand another side of the house - John was MIA - and I ended up paying another $600 - his top range. And he offered not to charge me sales tax if I paid in cash. I said no- he'd get a check. Hoping someone from the IRS reads this and audits him. Roll the dice if you choose this guy. You may get lucky - or be terribly inconvenienced and unlucky - and be finding trash in your yard for weeks to come. read more

After we scheduled the job, I learned we needed a new roof. He coordinated his job with that of our roofers by communicating directly with them so that both jobs were completed well and in a timely fashion. The crew (Irwin, Erik and Irma and the others whose names I didn't get) were extremely polite, very respectful in terms of wearing masks in the main parts of the house, were efficient (even with long days), and also cleaned up. Additionally, we had an issue with a terrible sheetrock/spackle job by a previous basement contractor. Yerik provided an additional very fair price to redo the entire sheetrock and spackle job in one day, and the result was excellent (the way it should have been done by the basement contractor in the first place). We have a large center hall colonial with cedar shack shingles. They've been drying out for over 20 years in the hot sun. Joe came by to provide an estimate. We agreed on one oil base coat and two finish stain coats. The entire house was power washed before anything was applied. The price was very reasonable for the amount of work done. It started badly when the owner (John) assured me that he would be on the job everyday which was a lie. He was on a planned vacation that week, no where around. They butchered my trim. They had taken all my downspouts off and put them back in wrong places and some even upside down. There was a small deck/terrace that was missed and he refused to do it claiming he already used too much paint. And he was far from the cheapest quote. An all around lousey experience. Very reasonable pricing (not the cheapest quote but definitely on the low end), very high quality of work, no cost overruns, and just a positive overall experience. Over the last month, crews managed by Yerik have done a lot of work on our new house: repainted the entire inside, entrance door and shutters; rebuilt all the closets; replaced every single door and lighting fixture (chandeliers and recessed); power-washed/sanded/repainted the deck; and updated the plumbing in one of our bathrooms (the plumbing was done by one of their associates). As first-time homeowners we took on these improvements with trepidation: had heard plenty of horror stories about contractors who show up whenever they feel like it, leave projects unfinished and find creative ways to charge multiples of the agreed-upon price. John's Paining has put all these fears to bed and then some! For starters, Yerik refused to take a down payment, even though I offered it twice--what a great way to signal to a customer that they run an honest operation that does high quality work. The quality of their work indeed exceeded our expectations--everything looks fantastic! Yerik is 100% focused on keeping his customers happy. A couple of times my wife and I made some bad design choices, which resulted in extra work for the crews. Yerik easily could have charged us extra, and it would have been fair. Only that he didn't charge us extra--just got it done with a smile! He was also very helpful with design decisions (lighting fixtures, paint colors, etc.) and worked miracles to accommodate our busy schedules even during their busiest time of the year. I can't recommend John's Painting. I got two estimates for the exterior of my house, which was admittedly in bad shape; John's was the lowest, and I went with him. The house looked good when his crew was done, and he offered a 3 year warranty. Unfortunately, he didn't honor it. It seemed clear that he bid low and then cut corners to make money on the job. His team didn't prep the house properly, and the paint started peeling within the first year. I called him within the warranty period, and my GC contacted him more than once, and both our calls went completely unreturned. It's now so bad that I have to have the whole thing redone - properly this time - at signficant cost. I wish I'd gone with the higher estimate in the first place. Remember, you get what you pay for, and with John's Painting, it wasn't worth it.
