Beautiful park to see the foliage!…read more Our family visited Berean Park on October 19, 2024. It's a great park to enjoy gorgeous Fall foliage palette! I only wish we had more time to hike big loop trails. We definitely recommend Berean Park for moderate hiking with beautiful foliage views!

4/8/2021 Out of the…read morecenter of Highland, you'll come across Berean Park located off Route 44/55. There is plenty of parking to find, but it expects to be fairly packed during spring/summertime. There is a lake just as you leave along with a playground. Going toward the woods, you'll come across a trail that is marked red. Some of the signatures are not clear as we happened to go off the trail for a bit, but we managed to get back on. Walking further, the lake is still visible until crossing to another trail that is called the white trail. There are a lot of hills on this part, which eventually leads to another trail. I'll have more info about it in my update.

This tiny little slice of a park is probably overshadowed by it's flashier sibling up above, but…read morethe Upper Landing Park is still quite charming all on its own. It's nice and clean and looks like it was recently built. It sits at the base of the elevator up to the Walkway over the Hudson, but it is also a nice place to just chill and relax, watching the river go by. My only quibble with the park is that it could use some wider paths to accommodate cyclists, and it could use some sort of signage to point people towards the Roosevelt Bridge. We had to consult our own maps to figure it out. It's not a destination park, but it's really a nice place to stop at if you're in the area.

Then head under the stone tunnel and into the forest. The hike starts with a steep incline, that works the glutes! I loved it but recommend preparing yourself and wearing comfortable footwear. The area is marked with plenty of signage to keep you on trail. Lots of beauty to take in, with great views of the river, Mid-Hudson Bridge and Walkway over the Hudson. Parking at the Macks Lane end can be challenging depending on the time of day, with a couple of spots and enough room to park on the side. There's enough room while getting out, and plenty of space to move around while getting to the trail. At the Johnson-Iorio Memorial Park end, there are plenty of spots to park at. Depending on your direction, the trail has an uphill/downhill gradient along the way. It's a workout for sure when going uphill. It's very easy to trip with so many rocks and tree roots on the ground, so please take caution. The trail is well indicated by its color and is shown on the tree barks hung up. Of course, the maps are provided at each trailhead for convenience. UPDATE: The white trail which I recently took is a cool trail, doing a loop that connects with the yellow in a different spot not too far from that starting point. It is steep in this section, which requires small steps along the way. There is also a shortcut to cut over to the other side to make it shorter (don't recommend it). Also, on the way, there are ruins, which were once a big Mansion that was abandoned in 1949, with unknown information on how it got destroyed. Pretty cool history. When in doubt, take a rest, it's needed.

Does everyone know that you can catch the Walkway Tram at any point on the Walkway?…read more Flag down the Friends of the Walkway volunteers and hitch a ride to the other side or one of the Tram pick up spots (marked with an A frame.) I'm so glad I stumbled across Walkway Over the Hudson while exploring Google Maps…read more We were in the area to visit the Mid‑Hudson Discovery Museum and realized the elevator up to the bridge was right nearby, so we decided to check it out first. My son was hesitant while we waited, but once we stepped inside, the staff member operating the elevator was incredibly friendly and put him at ease. The moment we stepped onto the bridge, the views were beautiful. We wandered around, read the dedication plaques, and my son immediately wanted to run everywhere -- he didn't want to leave! We eventually convinced him because the museum was next on our list, but he made it clear he wanted to come back. We'll definitely return and walk the full length next time. Such a great find.

It doesn't get better than finding a park right next to a body of water, which is the Hudson River…read more There is a small parking lot as you enter just past a building, which use to be an old train station back in the day. Now it's used for other uses. The train track that runs along the park is the CSX line which carries a lot of freight cars that seem to never end. In the park, there is a walkway bridge that pretty much parallels the Hudson River providing a nice view onto the east side. It feels breezy for the most part as it comes as no surprise, so a coat or light jacket will come in handy. There is also a boating dock for anyone who wants to bring a boat onto the river, which includes a ramp access where the car can back down to detach and reattach it. For a nice relaxing and unique feel, Bob Shepard Highland Landing is a great place to check out.

Really cute park with lots of easy hiking trails at a former apple orchard…read more The views are really pretty especially for sunset time and it's located at the highest point in Poughkeepsie. I love that throughout the trail you have little signs explaining fun facts about the animals you find there and insects such as frogs and fireflies. Really cool to learn while you walk. Came here in November for some photos but there wasn't too much foliage. Can't imagine how beautiful the park must be during spring with their apple blossoms and being able to Apple pick too! The cool thing is this park is run by a nonprofit, The Friends of Peach Hill and they're always looking for volunteers to help maintain this beautiful place. Porta potties available and beware of ticks. Signs are posted everywhere when you first walk in and I took my very first one home from just walking around and being in low cut grass area. That's the only downfall and main thing I can't evennnnnn deal with in the north east. Other than that, cute park with lots of picnic tables and areas where you can enjoy creation.

It's all fun and games until finding a park right by the river and train tracks. Well, in this…read morecase, it works out here. Coming into Milton Landing Park is quick scenic and easy to find, with two being a pro. There's a decent amount of parking, but enough to fill some in. The best part about it is, that there's plenty of space to move around as a pedestrian. Across the railroad tracks is a field of grass to explore with benches and also two docks to walk up onto the Hudson River. Be careful of the winds, especially when wearing any head gears. On the parking lot side, there is a building that was once a train station and remains still to this day. Near it, there are three panic tables to sit at an old train track to walk on, and a building that cuts the track off. It's a wonderful place to kill time and watch some freight trains come by with a ding sound at the crossing, instead of a gate.

A hidden discovery for sure especially in an unexpected location. Getting in was no issue, but for…read morefirst-timers, GPSing would be the best route. There's plenty of parking space to fill each row while providing enough room. It's pretty easy to pessimistic in the lot which shouldn't lead to chaos. Depending on the time of day will determine how crowded it will be. Something that caught my eye was I did not see a map of the park, which is a big turnoff. Finding my way to the path was not hard, thanks to having a color assigned to the trail. One trail leading toward the east will come out to the Wappingers Creek, with it branching to another trail heading south and the other north. The trail running parallel will lead to a dead end. The other park seen is the Wappinger Creek Greenway Trail across the creek. The other trail toward the beginning goes uphill towards the Eastdale apartment buildings. Another trail just before the branch contains a loop trail. There's a total of three trails, green (the main), yellow, and red. Some of the trails have grass in the way. Awesome park and trail, but please provide a map at the physical site to up my rate.
