Went to the Dr. and had a referral sent on 6/20/24. Hear NOTHING. On 7/31/24 called to find out what was going on with the referral. Was told the front office staff "had not come in yet" at 2pm on a Wednesday? but, would call me back by the end of the day. Heard NOTHING again. Called back on 8/1/24 and spoke to Tina who told me she was the office manager and didn't call me yesterday because she was busy picking her kids up. Spent about 15 minutes on the phone finding an appointment and providing information. AFTER 15 minutes on the phone and waiting for 2 months I was informed, as an afterthought, that my insurance is not in-network, "but don't worry, you'll only have to cover like 40%". If Tina had done her job in the last 2 months and called the new patient referral and maybe LEAD with the fact that I would not be covered, I could have found another provider instead of suffering through waiting months for relief to only find out I will have to start all over again. When I expressed my frustration to Tina she laughed at me and told me she couldn't figure out why I was upset. When I asked for the owner's information she said "I'm not giving that to you". When I asked for the license number, she made up a bunch of numbers (not a valid license in California) and hung up on me after laughing yet again. It's unfortunate that this practice doesn't care about patients.

I've been seeing Julie for a few years now to treat my chronic neck and back pain. She's done more…read morefor me than just ease pain, but has also helped my life in general. I recently finished a structural integration series with Julie and was very excited after she received her certification as it's something I've always wanted to try. Acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy and massage therapy have only given me temporary relief. I've even had several injections (epidurals, blocks, etc) with no results. After the first few sessions of our SI series, there was a noticeable difference in not only my pain, but in my life. I was sitting/standing more upright, I was breathing easier, sleeping better, I wasn't in such a fog from pain, I was interested again in social life after work, etc.. it was a revelation. As simple as it sounds, she studies how you walk and can see exactly what needs to be worked on, not just in the massage studio, but for you to work on yourself. My job is very demanding physically, where I'm on my feet in a workshop full-time and by no means does this help with chronic pain, but having someone you can trust to assist your healing is incredible. She's very accommodating, quick to respond and can sometimes get you in, in a pinch (literally). Always a pleasure to be around, I'll continue to see Julie for years to come!

I have been struggling with back pain for the the last couple of years including neck and back surgery, scoliosis and hip bursitis. I have been seeing a wonderful cranial sacral practitioner (Patty Gilbertson of Body Balancing) for the last 5 years but she can only straighten me out then my fascia and muscles seem to pull me back out of alignment. So Julie's technique is a wonderful adjunct therapy. She has a gentle, calm demeanor along with her wonderful touch and knowledge of the body.

I have used Barton Health Physical Therapy (phone 530-543-5896, 530- 543-5712) in the hospital in…read morethe past for two cases: once for neck pain and once for shoulder/arm pain. But this review is just about my most recent experience with them. I had my doctor's office fax over the referral to them for occupational and physical therapy on Thursday, May 2, 2019 (fax number 530-544-6512) in preparation for a surgery. Not having heard back from Barton, I called them yesterday, Wednesday, May 8 to set up the appointment. Stephanie said they had not received the referral. So I called back my doctor's office again and the person there said she would fax it again. We confirmed she had the correct number, which I got both from Stephanie at Barton and from their website. She also confirmed with me that the fax went through. So I called Barton again around noon yesterday and left a message there to set up my appointment. A day later, today, at 3 PM, no one had called me back. So I called again and spoke to Stephanie again. She said she hadn't received it still, but she could go ahead and set up an appointment and I could just have them fax over the referral (again, for the third time). She then said she would call another of their departments to see if they had received it (even though she had just told me they hadn't). She put me on hold. After waiting, someone with a different voice returned to the phone and said they had not received it. She said it take 5-8 days once a fax comes in to place it in the patient's record. LOL. That is ridiculous. It takes that long after receiving it to put it in the record? What a backwards, messed up organization. At any other medical office, they can either schedule right after they get the fax, or for Stanford Health, it takes 2-3 hours to put it in the computer. So I said to the new woman please transfer me back to Stephanie, who told me she could schedule me, despite their not having the fax. She said ok, but then the same voice appeared on the phone and said she was Stephanie. I was confused, but asked to be scheduled. She said no, and gave me the same explanation as before. So either that was Stephanie the whole time, and she just pretended to transfer me, or that was the new employee who lied about being Stephanie. Bizarre and unprofessional and contradictory. Why would she say she could schedule me with no referral, and then say she couldn't?? This employee or these employees are lunatics and incompetent. I will not be going to the physical therapy there after this experience. Don't they want new patients?? --------- UPDATE: Ironically, about 10 minutes later, as I was writing this Yelp review, a new person, Robin, called me. She was from the Barton Center for Orthopedics and Wellness (https://www.yelp.com/biz/barton-center-for-orthopedics-and-wellness-south-lake-tahoe), a brand-new, state-of-the-art addition to the hospital which wasn't there when I was a patient there last year. This was different from Barton Health Physical Therapy above where the referral was faxed to. Robin said she had received a fax and wanted to schedule me. I am not sure how she got her hands on the referral, since this was a different department of the hospital. I told her about my experience above and said I was angry at Barton. She tried to soothe things over and she said she was from a completely different department, but I said I wanted some time to think about things. She said she would at least scan the referral in so if I called again it would be there. I don't think I am going to Barton now because of how I was treated by Stephanie. It is too bad, since from the pictures on their website (http://www.bartonorthopedicsandwellness.com/ortho-wellness/ortho-wellness-about-us.aspx), the new building looks spectacular and I am sure they would provide good service. Now I must suffer.

Without telling my masseuse Kelly too much except that my neck and shoulders needed work, she was an expert at knowing what (other) muscles to target. And while most masseuses usually just try to roll out the knots in somewhat of a painful way, Kelly did some sort of accupressure that provided a lot of relief. And not only that, I feel like hips are often neglected in a massage, but mine got a lot of attention in this one. My partner got a mix of thai and therapeutic massage with I believe Christina, and he really enjoyed it as well. The right amount of pressure and a lot of stretching, and she was also able to tell the areas that needed work fairly easily. We were definitely left in deft hands. This place is fairly unassuming located in a small strip mall, and I would absolutely come back any time we're in Tahoe.
