    Goatmeat + rice Ayilata
    Alan G.

Let's talk about this new Nigerian restaurant that opened up just two weeks ago. They used to be a food truck and I'm so glad things are looking up for them. The decor and cleanliness is great but just note that there's not much space to dine in, so be prepared to take your food on the go. The music and lovely colors all give it a great, modern, but cultural vibe. Service was fairly quick and very pleasant. We had the following: 1. puff puffs - fried bread/dough balls These are a bit oily for me but the texture is similar to a nice yeast donut, slightly thicker or dense on the inside and lightly sweet. Enjoyed it. 2. Samosas-fried pastry with seasoned ground beef + carrots These were super oily. I don't know if it's because it is cooked in oil that isn't piping hot or taken out to drain quickly. However, the flavors are on point and these are delicious! 3. Fried sweet plantains This is a family favorite. You can never go wrong with fried sweet plantains! 4. Meat pie - baked pastry filled with seasoned meat and veggies. This is typically a hit or miss at restaurants and I'm glad to say it's a winner here! Not dry, plenty of filling & good taste. 6. Goatmeat Ayilata + Rice. This was jollof rice with one piece of goat meat. For portion awareness, I would say the goat meat is about the size of my wife's fist. Now, if you've never met my wife, that wouldn't be helpful but let's say it may equal 2-3 chunks of meat. The meat itself went uneaten at our house. We tried to chew it and pull it apart from different angles and aside from it being stuck in our teeth to wage war, we lost the battle. However, the jollof rice was VERY good. So flavorful! We have missed jollof rice and now we know where to get it. This was the star, for sure. 7. Egusi stew with poundo yam swallow- Taste was good with the egusi. Nothing that wowed us. It seemed typical. My wife is always a fan of a good starch that she can eat with her fingers and dip into stew. Now, let's talk about the ONLY concern we have. The rice platter should have had plantains with it but we didn't see any with the platter. Not a big deal since we ordered a separate side container of plantains. The container though wasn't fully packed to the brim. We got 7 pieces of plantains and paid $5! (For context, I just bought a plantain from the grocery store this week for 79 cents.) I'm ok with the $5 if the container was completely packed. What was even more crazy was that the stews and soups like egusi are $25 and you'd think it's a good portion. Unfortunately you can't tell in the picture but the container is very small. What you'd get as a side dish at some restaurants, maybe 5 inches in diameter? I have to be honest, the prices for some of the portions seem very excessive, but I am a fair believer in supporting new restaurants & I encourage others to go check it out. I just worry that if you start off so expensive and it doesn't match the portions, you could lose customers quickly. Even $15 for the stews and soups would be pricey but in a much better range to be justified. And when you're a new restaurant, please don't skimp out! Fill those containers, so people believe they are getting what they paid for. I know we struggle with inflation but it impacts customers and businesses alike. Just a small word of advice. We're happy to see more African cuisine in our city, so we're cheering you on! We hope to be back and try other items on the menu soon.

Very Disappointed for what they charge. Food was old and cold. The chicken was tough and overcooked.

When establishing a location Millie's Table was also recommended or praised by several venues. Prompt responses, fair pricing, delivery, great selection of food options. We ended up going with breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks plus juice and soda options. All this was done over the phone and via email, communication and follow up was excellent. Everything was delivered as requested with a smile to our seminar location each of the 4 days. Presentation was simple and efficient but most importantly Attendees raved over the meals!! I stopped in the other day: two flaky croissants, two rice krispies treats, a slice of marbled pound cake, a cinnamon roll and a cranberry scone. All of it was fresh, delicious, and really hit the spot. The cinnamon roll was huge and just the right amount of sweet (rather than drowning in icing). The scone was perfect, and I enjoyed the croissants. The rice krispie treats left a little to be desired, but that may just be because I make them all the time and I've grown accustomed to doing mine a certain way (browning the butter, etc). All of that was $16. I was shocked at the affordability of this place. While I was there, a guy picked up an insanely beautiful cake for his wife, a chocolate masterpiece with macarons on top. I would definitely feel celebrated if that cake showed up... too bad my husband doesn't read my reviews!! But overall, delicious and a fantastic value. I will definitely be back, and I recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth and desire to support local, independent businesses!

Cork and Canvas is the main fundraiser for Positive Tomorrows, the elementary school for homeless children. One of the stations at Chefs' Feast was a taco bar. They had a woman making fresh tortillas for the taco bar - at an event! In a ballroom! I've never seen anything like that before, and it made the tacos so delicious. It was cool to see them pull out all the stops for an important fundraiser. There were many other stations that were all outstanding, but seeing that woman make those tortillas for the taco bar was like nothing I've ever seen before!
