I absolutely recommend Jonah's Fish and Grits! I had seen a Georgia Traveler YouTube and knew I had to visit. Dinner starts at 5:00. I got there at 4:45 and sat outside on one of the street benches. By 5:00, there was a crowd. I knew then it had to be good! The complimentary hush puppies with sweet butter were good. The Corn Clam Chowder was brought out promptly after my order and it was steaming hot--how it should be. The Classic Shrimp & Grits were divine. The zucchini, squash & bacon gave it an extra embodiment of deliciousness. It was a meal 'hit out of the park'! All for $23! What a gem in this lovely little town. read more

Amazing food! We were fortunate to have found this gem in Thomasville. We waited 2 hrs. for a table. It was my son's 20 birthday. The hush puppies served with a sweet butter are the best I've ever had. Usually they're hard as a rock. Not these, more like a croquet. I'm not a fan of grits, but my wife ordered the shrimp and grits. Son had the Cajun version, I had the pesto pasta with shrimp and bay scallops. We each tried each others plates and they were all spectacular! I'm a convert on the grits! Made like this, I could eat everyday! It is so nice to find a place with quality food! If you find yourself walking around Thomasville, GA and ready to get your grub on. Gotta make a stop at Jonah's. I should start with saying it will not be a quick stop as many people are also wanting to get their hands on a savory dish from Jonah's. When we strolled up on a busy Saturday afternoon our wait was going to be 50min. Lucky for us they text you when you're table is ready. We were able to walk around to all the cute store nearby and peruse while we waited. All-in-all I think we only ended up waiting 30 min. Once inside we did have to wait probably 10-15 min for our waitress to get our drink orders, but that doesn't detract from my stars for them because they were terribly busy. Despite the busy the waitress was very attentive. I drink a lot of water, and never had to ask for a refill. (That's a big one of me) she kept me topped off the whole time. Now for the food. We got complementary hush puppies which were to Die For! Wuff. They were huge and amazing. They came with a sweet butter that only enhanced the experience further. I got the catfish and was not disappointed. It was crunchy and crispy in all the right places. We had wanted to eat here a few times in the past but the wait was always too long. We were in town today and were able to get in. We started with their truly amazing hush puppies! My wife doesn't like hush puppies because they are almost always hard and bland. Even she had two of their hush puppies - they are crispy on the outside and very moist and flavorful on the inside. Really good. Next our table split an order of fried green tomatoes. Not only is the presentation awesome, but the taste is great too. They put balsamic vinegar on them which actually tastes great. I had the blackened fish on a bed of greens and their amazing cheddar grits - it was perfectly prepared and the tastes were great and complimented each other. One of our party had chicken pesto pasta and one had shrimp pesto pasta. The servings were generous and also tasted wonderful - great flavors. Finally, the last in our party had the bourbon chicken which was served with fresh vegetables and cheddar grits - as with the other food, spot on both in presentation and taste. I live 45 minutes from Jonah's and I've been here multiple times. I have to say the customer service has been on point each and every time my family and I have came. The food is amazing and I love the worship music that plays in the background. It's inexpensive for my family and I to eat and we love the portion sizes. The kids meals are very filling. Saturday night at 6 PM we sat down with five people. The items that were 86 were grouper bites, crab, cakes, grilled or blackened shrimp, fish, and chips. I ordered the black and shrimp with two sides of a sauce. Since that was 86 no longer available at 6 PM. I asked if I could get sautéed shrimp with the lemon and white wine reduction that was offered as a sauce. I was told no multiple times when I asked.. the fish and grits have sautéed shrimp, so why couldn't my shrimp be sautéed? I really did not want to eat fried shrimp or anything fried, since I have a heart condition and don't want to eat the fried food. Zero flexibility and willingness to accommodate your dining guests. Whatever happened to Customer service and anything is possible? I've been in this industry for 45++ years, I am a ACF certified executive chef, I have been at the corporate level and have had top 10 restaurants in Atlanta, Georgia, and Delray Beach . Why? Why did you change? The menu including entrees, sides, & desserts is missing some of the best items that were there. The quality of food has not been the same great food that we were accustomed to getting. Changing the hushpuppy delivery is terrible. Getting them before your meal was always a treat with the sweet butter, but now coming with your meal without the sweet butter is NOT the same. The inability to upcharge an item for your side was nice, but now not an option. The shrimp quantity has decreased and has been way overcooked, tough and rubbery the last several visits. No mashed potatoes (which were delish) are no more. The grilled pineapple chicken - no more. Peanut butter pie - it's gone too. Crab bisque - poof! We made the drive from Tally because we always enjoyed dining there so much. It's not the same and frankly not worth the drive anymore. Before it was a treat, but can't say the same now. I was in town for work and found this place on Yelp, so I decided to stop by for lunch. The menu options were great, so it was hard to decide on what to eat. Once the waitress came by and told me what the specials were for the day it made it even harder to decide. I chose to go with the special for the day which was an appetizer of grouper bites blackened redfish, white cheese grits and coleslaw. Wow, what a fun place! The line was long but they text you when your table is ready. This allowed us to spend time shopping and exploring the local area. Our table was ready within 5 minutes of when they had said it would be. Service was both prompt and friendly and our drink order was taken within a minute of us sitting down. Almost simultaneously the drinks and a complimentary order of hush puppies were delivered. The hush puppies were excellent and set the stage for a great lunch. All in we found the crab and corn chowder, the shrimp and grits, the blackened grouper sandwich and fries to be a do over. With the one caveat that Jonah's doesn't serve alcohol, this is as close to perfection as one can get! And if alcohol is seriously an issue, they'll direct you to nearby Liam's where the drinks are bomb, so please don't fret and give Jonah's a good ol' chance. You won't regret it. The Southern hospitality and charm is there. Very present and very Christian, too, but you can deal with this for a couple of hours to try their delectable offerings. They have something for everyone, even seafood haters like one of my three companions that night. You begin with complimentary hush puppies and their accompanying sauce. These are fried and so dense and you want to inhale them, but please only have one. You want to save room for the entrees! The seafood is probably some, if not the best, I've had in recent times, and for the one seafood hater in our group, apparently their land offerings are better than expected. That said, for our main dishes, we ordered the following: -Shrimp and scallops pesto pasta: Companion #1 ordered this and it was massive. It came with ciabatta toast, and well, back to the massive part - it was so massive that he took home leftovers. He was happy as a clam, too, as he enjoyed his dish. -Salmon, collard greens, and garlic mashed potatoes: Companion #2 ordered this after not being able to order what she originally wanted as they were out of it. She loved the salmon especially but overall was happy with her meal. -Steak, French fries, and a vegetable medley: Companion #3, the seafood hater and the picky one on the group, ordered this and deemed his steak better than expected. Typically at seafood places, their land offerings are subpar but not at Jonah's. He ate the majority of his steak and really his one complaint was the vegetable medley and that's because he kept stealing my Brussels sprouts that he much preferred. -Cyclone shrimp, French fries, and Brussels sprouts: My order and what a beaut she was. The cyclone shrimp was finger-lickin' good. I don't know what they put their sauce, but it was heaven sent. That and the Brussels sprouts had me ecstatic. Now don't get me wrong, the French fries were great, but in comparison to the rest of the dish, these were the weakest link. Nevertheless, I'm in love and already want to return. Did I mention that I, too, had leftovers? All that said, we then ordered dessert. They have two options: key lime pie and peanut butter chocolate pie. Can't comment on the key lime pie, but I did have some of the peanut butter chocolate pie and while tasty, it is heavy, so much so that I advise to share it. I doubt you'll be able to finish it otherwise honestly. Anyway, definitely recommend this restaurant. It's been one of the best I've eaten at in recent times, and well, if you haven't gone yet, go! This place exceeded my expectations. We went at 6 on a Monday- please note there are not many restaurants in Thomasville open on Mondays. We only waited 10 minutes for a table for 2. The small size of the regular shrimp and grits was excellent. I've grown up eating shrimp and grits in Charleston and these were the BEST in my over 50 years of trying the dish. It's an interesting place for a northerner. Hush puppies come on the table with butter. They were ok. We were told that they have lots of spices. What I tasted was corn bread that was a tiny bit bitter and could use some salt. I guess I missed the point on this or maybe it was an off day for them. So, slightly disappointed after hearing so much about the grits. The Harvest salad was really nice! I also tried the famous grits and Brussels sprouts as sides. The grits were creamy and pretty good. The Brussel Sprouts were really good. My wife needed gluten free and there were plenty of choices, but not grits or hush puppies I had. She had the shrimp and GF grits. The shrimp looked and tasted amazing according to her. The service was wonderful and the wait staff could not do enough for you. When we again pass through, we will try some other things. The grits were creamy and spiced just right. Not spicy for me. But we love jalapenos and poblano peppers. The mixed grill blackened: tasted good. Not overcooked. We'll try grilled next visit. Jonah's is our go to for mother daughter Saturday brunch. The staff are super friendly, the atmosphere is bright and clean and the food is amazing! This time around we went on a Monday morning and there was no line and no wait. I always end up getting the fried catfish or the shrimp and grits. I don't get catfish from many places but Jonah's is always clean and cooked to perfection. Their sweet tea is on a completely different level. Tonight very comfortable, quiet, and you might say a little romantic when the sun goes down. Wait staff very competent and overall service. The food was very very good. Dining companion (DC) had one of their favorite dish -shrimp and grits - and it was excellent and the serving was more than enough and with a good portion of shrimp. I tried the catfish, and old say it was good but not any better than most restaurants serve. Did I mention the house made hush puppies? To die for! One jegative, while overall service was good ( several deliver salad, water, and main meal, our regular waiter a little slow and had the wrong sides. We came to this place from Tallahassee just to have diner , here is some observations, the food is good and is not expensive although it is a procedure and a task trying to get a table because in this small town there is not too many restaurants, the service was very good, but it took us over an hour to get our food and at the end the hostess came and told us there was a problem in the kitchen, at the last minute after Everyone had left ,very unpleasant experience. After a trip to DisneyWorld, we decided to re-route our trip back to Texas to include dinner at Jonah's. Wooow! I'm so glad we did. First of all, we didn't make reservations (not sure if you can), but when we arrived there was a sixty-five to eighty minute wait. Don't be turned off by that! It is so worth the wait!! And Jonahs is located in the midst of the cutest boutique shopping area. It's a beautiful place to walk around and shop or window shop. There are ice cream parlors and a cute toy store and lots of clothing boutiques for both men and women. When we received our text that our table was ready, we had five minutes to check in. We ordered the hush puppies and crab cake for appetizers. The hush puppies are to die for!! The crab cake was thick, flavorful and big. You get one per order but we shared one and were satisfied. The hush puppies are super moist on the inside with this flaky crunch on the outside. They are served with abutter so I did as my husband did. We cut each one in half, spread the butter and ate away. Man they were delicious!! Y We also ordered the fried shrimp with fries for the kiddos and the chicken tenders with fries, the Cyclone Shrimp dinner with three sides (Brussels sprouts, garlic mashed potatoes, and collard greens). Just absolutely yummy for your tummy! Hubby ordered chicken sandwich with fries. It came with fries and green tomato. He ate every single bite. SIL got strawberry/blueberry salad and corn chowder. She ate every single bite. I got the grouper sandwich with house salad and fries green tomatoes. Here is the best part, I don't like anything on my fries green tomatoes, so when I said to the server, (after ordering) that I didn't want the cheese and stuff on top, she brought me a (huge) new order of them !
