The…read morethought of renewing my lease one more year living downtown was dreadful and my goal was to purchase a home by 2019. But everybody I spoke to just told me different things - I received a mixture of advice from : ..."buy property, you're wasting money renting!" to ..."just continue renting, there's so many hidden costs owning a home and the market's going to crash". My mission was to learn something new and feel confident about any future investments. Confused and having no idea who to trust, I went on Yelp and looked up real estate classes. I searched KW DTLA's address and realized it was literally across the street and they offered a free introductory course so I said, why not!? At the time when I joined, my schedule was pretty flexible so it only took me up until our first class break to decide that I wanted to be apart of this program. Mac was my instructor and the course was 3 months long. That wasn't a commitment at all for someone who spent 9 years in university. What did I have to lose? The cost was $450 ish including the 3 textbooks and $50 less without which included a year access to their online portal. In addition to this package, I purchased supplementary courses from Prep Agent and Rico's videos which were not that useful. I read all of the text books and they were god awful dry but the portal has a lot of useful study tools. KW students also have access to self-improvement and educational resources outside of these classes with workshops, motivational guest speakers and networking events where I got to meet some really great people. 4 hours of sitting through a class can get pretty intense but it wasn't too painful because Mac was a truly wonderful instructor! I surprised myself since I was not even remotely interested in selling homes and I signed up right away. There was something about the energy of the people who I met here that kept me coming back. Mac was very knowledgeable, entertaining, personable and was always helpful with any questions we had. He also had very good taste in sneakers! Who knew Real Estate classes could turn out to be this fun that I wished the program never ended?! Unfortunately, an unexpected event occurred with work in early January and I haven't been able to register or study for the exam yet. I look forward to the issues settling down and resuming where I left off to get my license this year, hopefully buy property sometime in the future too. Thank you for such an inspiring class Mac and KW team. I highly recommend this location to anyone interested in learning about real estate or getting licensed!

I had the good fortune to meet Jeff back in 2015 after I sold some residential units and was looking to do a 1031 Exchange. After carefully and kindly teaching me about NNN transactions, Jeff discovered a property in Indio, California, which I purchase and owned until just a few months ago. At that time, Jeff wisely and selflessly advised me to exchange into something else because the lease only had five years left on it and the rent was way above market - the latter meaning that the tenant would not remotely renew without a substantial drop in rent. We both began looking for an exchange property. After we both sifted through some possibilities, Jeff found a financially solid tenant with 17 years left on the lease. As the exchange wasn't for the full amount, Jeff also found me a highly reputable DST firm where I exchanged the delta amount. On top of all that, Jeff also referred me to a loan broker who was able to convince the seller to finance the exchanged debt on the primary property, and at a rate and terms well below market. In my opinion, and despite an awfuly long and arduous escrow period, without Jeff guiding me along the way, it undoubtedly would have been worse. I did a lot of griping and was pretty tough on this stalwart guy. I'm glad he is my broker and hope he forgives me!

I have never been treated with such discard and disrespect from a company in my life. Currently, I…read moream still trying to process everything that has taken place with Donegan and his company. I am a new business owner. I saw an amazing property downtown and met with Donegan to tour it. I discussed IN DETAIL the description of my business, which is an all-inclusive performing arts center & production studio. Our primary focus is dance and acting classes, self tape reel production and audition training/ coaching. We will also have production space rental for television & film as well as special celebrity events & seminars. I was given the thumbs up to apply! I provided my website and my business description and ALL needed financial documents... and then NOTHING. Donegan went on vacation, but I was also working with his assistant Aldwin (who was much kinder), but of little help or assistance. Without getting an answer from the owner, Donegan came up with his own and said the owners were "sitting on my application" because they wanted to start a bidding war on the loft. He also said my guarantor only showed 16k in the bank, which is a LIE! He never submitted all the documents I provided. He also intentionally tried to act confused about my business, although there was no confusion on the front end, my website is clear as day and the building has other businesses that are comparable to mine. As in, dance, music, art & production. He insulted me by insinuating my business wasn't good. Only AFTER I stated I'd be filing a formal complaint, did he text me saying he didn't mean it and Oh My Gosh, would you look at that.... he so happened to find another account I submitted with 20k!! I have everything a new business is required to have to begin operating. My credit is good and my background check is clean. He was also able to get "word" from the owners within 30 minutes of me stating I'd be contacting an attorney (although they hadn't responded with anything for 10+days) and they stated, they didn't get a detailed description of my business and had questions.... I submitted everything to Donegan & Aldwin. They also said because my business was NEW they didn't want to rent to me. But, having a new business was never a determining factor beforehand, as I submitted and passed ALL requirements. It is illegal to make up new policy that only applies to certain tenants and not others. Please keep in mind I am a 37 year old African American woman. At one point I was told by Aldwin that the owner wanted to meet me.... although this is not common, later Aldwin changed that and said he suggested the owner meet me. I guess I was needed to prove I was a "decent black". Aldwin also mentioned he had another young black woman last year who felt she was racially discriminated against too. I believe Donegan dropped the ball and purposely failed to submit and represent my business professionally. Instead tried to persuade me in helping me lease elsewhere. Perhaps he knew the owners wouldn't want my business (or my kind), so he intentionally didn't negotiate, submit all financials or give the proper detailed business description. He never asked for ANYTHING else until after I said I was filing a complaint. Also, he sent me a screenshot from Ericson Alviz (management of Shomof Group) where he tells Donegan to "find a better tenant" ... what the hell does that even mean? So either Donegan needs to come forward that the owner Izek Shomof or his management company are biased, which put him in an awkward position (he shouldn't have them as clients because of unethical & discriminatory practices) OR, he's going to be included in everything as an ally and collaborator of such despicable actions. 2 weeks of my life wasted. Hard inquiry on my credit report for nothing. Paid application and credit report fees for nothing. Toured the property for nothing. If the owners had a stipulation that they didn't accept new businesses Donegan would have said that before starting the process.... but heck, he only showed them $16k, and between my father (guarantor) and myself our monthly showed at $35k+. The monthly rent is only $5k. I have every right to have been offered a lease there. Donegan had the nerve to block me because I'm disappointed and letting it be known. A simple apology and rectifying the matter could have sufficed. But no, as you can see from all his other responses on here, he doesn't like to be held accountable... instead he gaslights, projects and discards. Had I known they were all about gentrification beforehand, I could have saved myself the emotional turmoil. They want "us" moving out, not in.
