This is a really good place to go for affordable produce and meat. Make sure you are looking at the right flyer as the different stores have different flyers. I went to bought chocolate at the promotions shelf it's said 10.99 but they charged me 15.99 I called the store and talked with the female manager and she said I took from another shelf and told me that I'm liar.i said I'm not lying and ask her to check the camera so she can see where i took it from and she said no I don't have time and keep telling me that I'm liar this is unacceptable! I love Jon's marketplace normally. I frequent the one in studio city often and that location has high quality food/ good prices. I bought a napoleon here yesterday on February 3: It's a large sheeted pastry like a cake normally- But it was stale and disgusting. It was not cheap. Normally jon's has great specialty items, bakery department stuff, ethnic foods etc: It is genuinely one of the worst and most expensive grocery store purchases I made yesterday . I don't live in the area, so returning this is nearly impossible. Again, I am used to quality and consistency at other locations like Studio city. What I got is horrifically bad/ The cashier was sweet but slower than all hell in the "express" line with many other people waiting. Also, added downgrade is the area is not safe for young women or people walking by themselves. A lot of unhoused people, people using drugs, and creepy men in cars hangout outside of here. We decided to try and make Lebanese food for NYE and needed ingredients not easily found at our usual grocery stores so we came to Jon's. What a fun grocery store! It's filled with all kind of goodies and staples from across the globe. On this trip we tried to stick to just the ingredients we needed for our NYE recipes but we did manage to put a few other extras in the cart...like Annato and Sazon. Jons has so many different types and brands of Annato...I was like a kid in a candy store...actually our entire experience was like that. We'll definitely be heading back soon to see what other yummy goodies we can find. read more

Avoid buying lamb from this store! They have brought in a batch of meat and are selling it as New Zealand lamb, but the quality is terrible!

I stopped by after visiting Griffith Obsevatory and on my way to the hotel. It's located near metro station and good size of grocery store. They have liquors as well. I wish they have more pre-made sandwiches. They have variety of salads, but there was no explanation on top. Like even name. So I went to the produce corner and got green salad instead. I'm always on the lookout for great deals on fruit and I hit the jackpot this week. I'm so glad I saw their ad for navel oranges at .89 a pound and bananas at .39 a pound. The bananas were still slightly green and not a bruise in site. The taste was perfect! The oranges were medium sized with a beautiful orangey hued peel. Explored the hummus section and found an interesting combo of cilantro and jalapeno. Sounded yummy, but unfortunately the taste was lacking in jalapeno. Bought some pita bread (6 slices) for .59 to go with the hummus. You will definitely find quite a bit of international baked goods. Today was definitely a good shopping day. This is an overdue review. I used to live in Little Armenia. I would buy my groceries at several supermarkets. This Jons was my go-to place for deli meats and cheeses. The selection was great. Add to that their fresh baguettes and you have yourself a tasty sandwich to make at home. I would come here for my fix of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern products. They carry good hummus, baba ganoush, dolma, olives, and that delicious garlic spread Zankou got me hooked on. The produce section is nice. read more

Worse customer service ever!! Came in to buy something and saw some mushroom squishmallows that were priced with a tag that said 2 for 9.99. I head to the register and the cashier Yessica rings them up at 10 each I tell her they're priced 2 for 9.99 and she calls half of the store for help two other employees say they're 10 each and everyone starts arguing and saying no they aren't 2 for 10 and I say why price them like that? Honor your price! and management said no. I work for a grocery store and I know for a fact that you're supposed to honor the price advertised. Every employee brushed it off like nothing. Saying they didn't have a manager on shift which store doesn't have a manager on duty or someone in charge?! These people need better management and better cashiers. read more

Today I stopped here after work and was thinking how I should shop at Jon's more often... Until I arrived at checkout. I was in line, had been for a min or two when the checker decided she's was closing the line and put the sign in front of me. Not behind me, in front. Ok, no big deal. I moved to another line where I heard this same cashier rudely tell people she was closed. But then for some reason, she rang up one more person, a guy, after turning me and other people away. As I was still standing in the next line, with my groceries, waiting to be checked out. Just today I was in a class where we discussed how every negative experience someone has is spread by word of mouth. And if only 10 people had these experiences, and talked about them, that statically it would lead to about 30,000 other people hearing about it, and also associating your business with that negative experience. I have a disability. I may not look like I do, but looks can be deceiving. Today it was very difficult for me to do my shopping, to be honest I wasn't sure I could make it to the bus stop. I was worried o was going to have to call someone or Lyft to pick me up. And for whatever reason, your checker decided that me (and my disability) needed to wait and were not important enough to check out, while some other person could check out instead. Jon's I hope my review and negative experience reaches at least 30,000 people. That my 1000 Facebook friends all spread the word and let their friends know you discriminate and have rude employees. Also, I'm a dietitian, who helps patients shop. I will not ever be recommending your store to any of them. "NO RETURNS AND NO REFUNDS." Today I saw that on my receipt. I've posted reviews before about finding out products are spoiled after I get home (despite having a due date several days ahead). I didn't post on yelp my last sad event that happened a couple weeks ago when I opened a package of chicken wings to find them covered in slime and stinking (these were packed by the Jons butcher). According to the date, they might reach that state in a few days. I returned them and Customer Service said: "Go get another one." Yeah, right! I declined to exchange the wings and they gave me a refund. But now it looks like they've decided nobody can get their money back. Hmmm... I wonder why? My review today is mainly focused on a new incident: A customer should not leave a market with their heart pounding and their face hot from a confrontation with a checkout woman. But that's what happened today. It wasn't Jacqueline, who is consistently intelligent, friendly, and has an excellent customer service attitude (and wasn't working this morning). Although her issue with me could have been easily resolved, this checker today was so busy being condescending and rude, and creating drama...that it just wasn't worth it to argue with her. I told her to void the transaction and I took my groceries to the next checker. As I approached Checker No. 2, Checker No. 1 is yelling to her in Spanish, telling her side of things, which amounted to "Don't check her out..." (Yes, this Gringa understands Spanish.) I was, in fact, checked out very smoothly. But I was left with a high blood pressure attack that I'm still dealing with. Shame on Jons. I've been coming here long enough to know this mess will NEVER change. They've had the same bad management and same (mostly) ignorant, prejudiced checkout cashiers for years. Boooo! The deli service is horrible at this place. Asking them to get you a pound of meat and cheese is liking asking them to sell you their kidney! Kachik is the guy who works the Deli and he is rude. I always try to greet him warmly and he says nothing. I always lead with please and thank you and he says nothing. He just stares at you in a menacing way. I asked for a pound of turkey pastrami and he gave 1.15 pounds. I asked for a pound of Munster cheese and he gave me 1.25 pounds. You can't talk to Kachik. Killing him with kindness does not work. I keep coming back because of the deli specials, but sooner or later I am going to stop coming on this nightmares shift. I love this super market. It always has the best deals on produce and also certain foreign foods I like. they cater to the Middle eastern community when it comes to foreign delicacies. Delicious food. The deli could be better but if you are there to get some carne asada ( flap skirt Steak) and be out quick this is the deli that can do it. They every time I have been here they have good produce deals going and i find it slightly cheaper than other competitors around the area. I think that this market is reasonably prices groceries especially being in area that it in.. Hollywood. The cashiers are always very nice and attentive but also fast. There is hardly any long lines when paying, which is awesome. I mainly use this grocery store when i am in a rush and don't want to go down Sunset to food 4 less. read more

The Jons that exists today is slightly updated from the chain I remember from the 90s, but it does retain most of what I've come to expect from LA's original Armenian/Eastern European market chain. The deli counter is always well stocked with a large selection of cold cuts, cheeses and preserved meats, olives and pickles as well. They make a lot of in house products like hummus, tabbouleh, dolma, cucumber salads, so much! I love the selection of locally made bread and pastries from bakeries all over the city. It also has one of the best mineral water selections of any market in town, truly impressive! The produce is always fresh and beautiful, lots of great stuff. I see a lot more of the typical name brand products there now, the stuff you would find in any other grocery chain, but it's alongside the more unique things you would expect from Jons. You'll still get your fix of Ukrainian cookies and Armenian fruit preserves. Grab a loaf of Matnakash from Glendale Fine Bakery if you're lucky, they go quick! read more

The Good: Produce section here is amazing. It's a fraction of the prices you'd get at any other grocery store, everything is fresh, and the selection is huge. The Bad: Because it is technically and international grocery store, they don't have quite as large of a section of brand name foods like Vons or Ralphs would. The UGLY: OH MY GOD, the LINES to check out are SO BAD. Try to come at a not so busy hour, but even then be prepared to wait because I swear part of the cashier's job requirements here is to be as slow as humanly possible. read more

Since this store is in a predominantly Armenian neighborhood and 90% of the staff is Hispanic. They are terrified of asking Armenian consumers for their mask on. I have seen many occasions in my visits to the store they try to enforce it even with security and fail. I know where I stand in this community, but this is one of the main stores for the neighborhood. Can not be managed so poorly and so feeble. Jon's is the triumph of function over form. This place is not pretty, it is not overly concerned with frivolous niceties (altho i have never been ignored or treated poorly), and it is not a one-stop-shop. It is, however, the best place to go for all things Armenian/Mediterranean/etc... you want feta? you'll need two hands to count how many kinds they have. you want and kind of flat bread? there's practically half an aisle dedicated to it. They have a great meat section which, yes, smells funny... but only if you've never been to any sort of "ethnic" marketplace before. Food *is* supposed to have a scent, contrary to what Whole Foods would like you to believe. They even carry my hands-down favorite brand of yogurt here for a full $2 less per quart than Ralphs/Vons/Albertsons, when i can even find it at those places at all. You have to be picky and choosey with the produce, but if you're buying standard non-organic fare to begin with, i've come away with far better tasting produce from Jon's than anywhere else. And let me tell you, their produce prices are stellar. The same vegies in the same amount that i bought from Vons one week for $15ish, i had here for just over $7. beautiful. read more

I mainly go there for the meats, they always have good sales going on. Their seasoned meats are always tasty. Also, if you're looking for international items, most likely they will have them. Their produce prices are unbelievable and they carry a small selection of organic fruit. Terrible store. They sell expired items. Wasted a whole batch of cupcakes because the frosting was a month and a half past it's expiration date. Mistakes happen. I returned to the store the same day to return the frosting. The manager was completely rude and barked at me. I barely got out that the frosting was expired, when became indignant. "Fine alright! I'll give you your money back! Jeeze!" Like I was such a bother. I was not yelling or rude or disrespectful. He spoke to a cashier who would not speak English or even look at me. I'm not expecting them to buy me a car or something. But maybe a little customer service wouldn't hurt. Gosh! I'm sorry that happened, let's get your money back, ok? Thanks for the heads up. Nope. A store where you can find a real Armenian coffee, cookies and specific traditional food. Also good store where to buy fresh fruits But prices on ice cream is higher than in other shops where I buy ice cream, and that ice cream is made by same brand that on sale in this store. And customer service in section where they sell coffee is bad most of the times. Sometimes they refuse to sell only dark coffee and many times tried to sell me mix of dark and light coffee when I asked them to give me dark coffee. Sometimes they refused to give a salami to taste it before buying. Salami is in same section where coffee. But price on specific Armenian coffee is great so I buy it there even if customer service sometimes problematic. read more

Today I went to shop at Jons, one of my staple go-to ethnic supermarkets living in LA in the last several decades. I was so aggravated I had to post this. Melissa the cashier had such a nasty attitude when we approached her to purchase our products. She embarrassed us in front of other shoppers saying that our products were more than 10 items and we were at the express lane. Our items may have technically been 11 but 4 of them were large packets of water and she only had to scan 1 (4X$10) while the rest would remain in the cart, hence only 8 scannable items. EVEN if the items were classified as 11, that's not the customer service and attitude I would expect from an employee! What a shame! She continued to maddog us as we went to pay at a different cashier. The worst part - the supervisor Oscar Lopez dismissed and ignored us when we talked to him about the situation. He just boasted that he's the supervisor to me and did ZERO. Just WOW. How about some customer service training of employees at this store? Highly necessary!! read more

JONS, JONS, JONS customer service counter. Why should I continue to shop at your store with the poor level of customer service I received today while purchasing a money order? First I went into the store to pick up a bag full of items. Then right before I left I stopped by the customer service counter to purchase a money order. There was one one guy in front of me. After that transaction OSCAR totally avoid me. Instead he turned the other way and started having Conversation with another Coworker. How rude. Then I told I also needed a money order for $812.07. Apparently he wasn't listening as he continued to talk to the other coworker. Again I had to repeat the amount not once but 4 different time. Then he said for $312. Really, I he had stayed focus with me things would have went smoothly as I had experience in the past. Actually I have be going to Jons for the past 26 years that I lived in the area. I then had to repeat the amount again. After I gave him the cash he picked up the money order and handed it my way all while he was facing the other direction . Just poor customer service on his behalf. And get this there was a big sign hanging just above the customer service desk that said JONS GIVES THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE, I don't think so. After see the expression on my face I think he had second thoughts about his level of customer service. And I'm pretty sure the other employee that he was chatting with realized that I wasn't satisfied by the expression in my face. Next time I'll just avoid JONS and head over to VONS 2 blocks away. Jons: Their prices are unbelievably reasonable, and their produce is very fresh. I love this location because, like the rest of L.A., it is a culinary melting pot. Its proximity to Thai Town, Little Armenia, and various east-of-Hollywood Latin neighborhoods make it a great place to find fish sauce, Oaxacan quesillo, and bulgur wheat all under the same roof. What slays me about Jons though is, if you're like me and have a hard time justifying spending 75% of your paycheck at Whole Foods, it is tough finding a line where locally produced and/or organic meets inexpensive and fresh. Jons has a great array of locally baked breads, including a lot of lavash and pita (whole wheat options, too!) They also have a lot of Karoun products (also local) like feta and yogurt. The deal of the century though is the package of odds n' ends of assorted cheeses from the deli section that have been sliced until they are too small to slice. You can buy a pack of mixed cheese - havarti, gouda, swiss, whatever they are getting rid of - for three frigging dollars! read more

I only shop at JONS or superkings. I can find everything I need at SK but it's a terrible loud drive and this Jons is right around the corner. I'm able to find 80% ingredients for Our family's food. The rest I get from super kings. They are the only store that has " international brand" pita bread in 4 difference varieties. This brand of pita bread is not sold at vons ralphs superkings or even the ME stores. For grocery staples like pasta, tinned sauce, and dry goods like cereal flour etc the products are not that good. But they have good fresh produce ( mostly) And here are the items I shop for weekly besides produce : Diff kinds of rice Tahina $ 4- 1 16 oz jar Olives $2 / 1 8oz Decent cheese aisle 3$ European butters A Few kinds of oils like super kings Pink, brown lentils SMALL fava beans 2.99 SMALL humus beans Bulgur in diff courseness Freekh ( don't know this word in English) Couscous No zaffron but there is Sumac and zataar Lebnah ( all brands found at SKings) 1.99$ Imported condiments ( kinda cheapo) Sh3reya makarona ( for Arabic soups) .99$!!! Warning: they sell expired stuff. Milk ( and dairy stuff ) is pricey and $5.49/ half gallon. Cleaning supplies and general household stuff ( paper towels tp, dish soap etc) is not a wide selection and is not cheap. They restrict carts to go through aisles bc the area is so sketchy ( bums may run off with the carts). So at any given moment after 12 pm, there's a whole pile up of carts clogging the main walkway through the store and every aisle. Cashiers are nice but not as friendly as Ralph's cashiers. Their organic produce can be cheaper than stuff at Ralph's. But sometimes their produce is old. ( I never buy lettuce from JONS bc of that ) read more

This market will outright lie to you to your face. Example: today I bought some eggs which were on sale for 3 dollars each but they rang up as 4 dollars. I went to the supervisor Sylvia( big mistake). I offered to show her the posted price tag but she said she would check it out herself. It took her several minutes what should take less than 1 min. Several mins of wait time later I went to find her at the eggs section only to find that she had remove the sales price tag (2 for $6) and hand written 3.99 on it then claimed that makeshift hand written tag was always there, just hidden behind the sales tag. I gave her that and asked to see the sales tag she admitted she had removed and she refused. I asked for either the price difference back or a full refund which is standard request anywhere else(like Albertsons) and she asked me to go in line for my refund. The line was long so I refused. I wanted my refund or the difference w/o waiting in the long line. This isn't about the money. It was about her lying to me, about her pulling sales price and write in another price and then lie to me some more about how I cannot get my refund in cash because I used a credit card. I did not, I used a debit card. What is even sadder is that I am a long time customer, have shopped there for decades and still she treated me poorly. Jons has good products and I shop there because I live in the neighborhood but this kind of outright lying to customers is unprofessional behavior to say the least. I have a mind never to shop there again, write bad reviews everywhere I can, and tell everyone I meet of the horrible management team. I can't even say it has gone downhill because Sylvia has been there for yrs even if she seems to never recognize me. I think Jons should really train their management people to handle customers with respect and not lie to their face and expect us to accept it.
