It all worked out great in the end! We ordered the three-fish-fillet plate, the breaded sea plaice plate, a salad of mixed vegetables and a dessert of sea buckthorn creme brulee. Everything was incredibly delicious, well plated and well executed! Lots of the ingredients were fairly unique and not stuff that one would commonly see in the US. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for good seafood in Dresden. In particular, they offer a number of high quality freshwater fish which are difficult to find in other places, like zander. Definitely do keep in mind that this place serves rather large portions (it's a good thing!) -- we finished everything but I was definitely really stuffed by the end. The restaurant is easily reachable by tram and one good idea is to first take a walk around the Grand Garden in Dresden and then head to dinner at Schwindts. We stayed even a little after closing (it took quite a bit of time to read and figure out the menu) and not once were they pushy about trying to get us to leave.

The baby calamari are centuries old and rubbery, the scallop gratin is bathed in the water rendered by the cheese, etc. The beef tartare is super-fat and original with mustard ice cream. The lightly filo breaded prawns are quite good. Don't order the cheese plate : it looks like under blister cooked cheese of low class supermarket. Crêpes Suzette are tasty and prepared on an old kitchen stove of a military cart. Professional service, probably the best of this pretentious fable.

This is a very nice classy place (I honestly felt slightly underdressed in my touristy best). But they welcomed us openly and seated us immediately. We found the staff to be super helpful, taking our coats, answering our questions and pouring us countless glasses of water (we were super thirsty). We started with oysters, which are shucked immediately and perfectly prepared. I mean like expert shucking here. And the oysters themselves were from all areas around the Mediterranean and were both larger than the ones we typically get here in the states and really complex in flavor. We were basically in oyster heaven. We took the suggestion of our server and ordered a kind of sampler to start, then we ordered a few more of our favorites. The oysters were perfectly presented with a trio of sauces. We don't know what was in the green one but we really REALLY liked it. We also kind of sort of accidentally ordered this huge lobster grill platter. Our waiter, who was great, didn't speak super English. I was asking him which platter he liked the best and he said the lobster. My husband wanted the shrimp and I thought we ordered the shrimp. I then watched the chef make this incredible lobster platter on ice and was just really admiring the attention to detail... and then they brought it to our table! Whoops. Well I wasn't going to send it back. We ate it and did not regret it at all. Also, can I just pause for a second to talk about the bread and butter that is served here? There are two oyster shell halves cleaned out and filled with butter and one of them is full of butter laced with black caviar. Just shut up. I ate all of the bread so I could eat all of the caviar. Man. So great. And in the end the bill was quite reasonable, especially when compared to what we'd pay for a similar feast at home. The broth is noticeably clean/clear and very fishy at first sip. I can't say it's bad because it's difficult to mess up fresh seafood broth but I wouldn't say it's good or fantastic either. It's... okay, kinda, sorta seafood-ish. What it really lacks is depth and aromatics. Other than a few scantily twigs of cilantro, there wasn't much in the broth other than an unjustifiable amount of seafood. Now one would think with so much seafood alone it must be great. However, it's like getting a 16oz steak that is well-done. Sub-par broth with very very done seafood makes for an okay soup.

Sweet glaze on top. Delicate. Balanced. Honestly one of the better things I ate on the entire trip. What stood out most was the chef's style. No two plates looked the same. Each one had its own story. You could tell someone cared back there. After I cleaned my plate, the waitress came over. She had a mouth on her that would make a sailor blush, but somehow it worked. They also have oysters on the half shell available. This is a great spot that offers a communal atmosphere. I would definitely go back and try more of their selections. A great spot in Prague.
