Solo diner review: I decided to treat myself to dinner at Jont for my birthday and while I agree with what everyone says about the amazing food and flavors, what I came away with was an appreciation for Chef Ratino and team's unreasonable hospitality. Upon arrival, you're taken to a side reception area (entrance is also used for Bresca) where you wait to be taken upstairs and to the kitchen counter seating. Seats are wide and comfortable, but I was still left wishing for a foot rail. Everything from the dish ware to the upside down knives (Chef told a story of how he picked them out and still forgets to hold them correctly) is thoughtfully presented. Ingredients and dishes are top notch and you will not go home hungry! Attire definitely seemed more dressed up -- people were there for a special night out, but there wasn't anything stuffy or overly serious. Menu highlights were the Shizuoka Crown Melon (a $40 supplement), the crab rice, and all of the little treats in my dessert box. Bathrooms are two large single rooms. Dessert was served in a separate lounge-y area through a curtained doorway. They definitely make the most of a tight space. What really set this experience apart for me was the little things. One of the servers noticed me singing along to the playlist and brought over a QR code to their Spotify. The napkin that slipped off my lap was picked up without my notice and replaced with a fresh one. Chef Ratino took the time to chat about how he values his chefs and staff and "auditions" new team members to find out if they work well with the rest of the staff. Everyone worked together to make the evening a memorable one.

I dined at Jont on Valentine's Day, and it was the best dining experience of my life. I've dined at Michelin Star restaurants around the world, and this was the best overall experience. The space is sleek and sophisticated with an open kitchen. Even the restrooms area is picture worthy. We selected the Chef's Tasting Menu and every course was absolutely delicious. This was the first tasting menu that I truly enjoyed every bite of every course. After dinner we were escorted to the front of the restaurant for dessert. The dessert consisted of multiple courses as well. The presentation of the sweet treats was beautiful and so creative. At the conclusion I received a rose and my date and I both were given gift bags that contained more treats. Such a special touch. Every detail of this dinner was meticulously planned and perfectly executed.

My wife and I visited during our vacation to DC and absolutely loved the experience. I say experience as opposed to dinner because that's the atmosphere -- not just food but every aspect of dining at Jont was a meticulously crafted event. Fun touches like picking your chopsticks or a phone mat for guests who were taking photos... just everything was mindful and fun. Nothing felt stuffy or arrogant despite the level of cuisine. And the kitchen matched this energy; calm but never feeling anxious or heavy, I honestly just enjoyed watching them work. Food was as expected world class, and I appreciated that everything was focused and respectful to the dishes and never odd or performative. Honestly, the only thing I wished for was a touch more cohesion in the menu lineup.

I went here for my birthday dinner and this place lives up to what my expectation is for a two Michelin starred restaurant. When you first arrive to the main restaurant in led up some stairs, through a seating area, and finally threw a door that opens into a fully functioning open air kitchen. The napkin that is at your seat is warmed, which is greatly appreciated during the winter months. You're presented with a tablet with a menu that allows you to add on things to the entire dinner experience. I opted for the nonalcoholic pairing to accompany my meal. Dinner service was as expected, as there are multiple staff and moving parts explaining the dishes that you're eating and the drinks that you are having. The service was immaculate, and all of the staff working were well-versed on the menu offerings as well as all of aspects of the kitchen down to where the glassware came from. Everything I ate here was delicious. Never in 1 million years that I think that I would get to try antelope nor butter-clarified non-alcohol, alcoholic wine, but I definitely did and they were both actually really good. I really appreciated the personalized touches, including the birthday cake dessert and the card on my actual dessert box that wished me happy birthday. Now the reason I took off a star had nothing to do with the food or the service itself and everything to do with the music that was playing during the dinner. I did not expect to hear early 2000s unedited rap music with my dinner in this establishment as the only black person both working and at the dinner seating. It just came off as cringey, distracting, and performative to me. As expensive as this meal was, I did not anticipate that the background track to my dinner would be that. Outside of the questionable music choice, the rest of the experience was really really nice.

4 hours before our dinner, we received an email saying there was an issue with their air conditioning. Since that was the last full day we were in DC, we couldn't reschedule. It was hot but it wasn't unbearable. If anything, I felt bad for the service workers in their full suits and the one chef who was on fire duty. Food was great. I enjoyed all the small bites. The crab dish was one of my favorites. They were accommodating when I listed two preferences for my guest. It wasn't super stuffy. I had a good time dining here and would come back.

Amazing dining experience. It took the servers a minute to warm up, once they did, they contributed to a very pleasant evening. Food was amazing. Would not recommend if you are vegetarian as the substitutes are not worth the money. Pricey but worth it if you have experienced and appreciate Michelin star-quality dining. We loved the wagyu and quail and all the different fish dishes. Dessert in another area is unique and understandable, and it felt good to get up and move after feeling stuffed, but it is also a little annoying, and the chairs are too low for tall people's comfort. Presentation was gorgeous, both of the food and the dishes used for serving. Loved the experience.

I definitely see why this place is so highly rated and hyped up now! Your wallet will definitely be hurting after coming here but it's definitely worth it for a special occasion. I came here for my birthday and it was such a special meal! My favorite dishes were all of the fish ones. The quail and Wagyu beef were also really tasty and soft. Everything is cooked perfectly with an amazing sauce. The melon add on was worth it in my opinion because I've never had such a soft buttery sweet fruit! My favorite dessert were the strawberry balls that explode with juice once you bite into it and the tart with the flakiest crust. The service was fantastic and all the waiters were friendly! I loved the dessert box at the end with the customized happy birthday sign and they also took the effort to print out one of my favorite emojis! The inside was decorated nicely and seemed clean. I don't know how often I'll be back here just because of the price, but definitely come to celebrate!

Came here for the tasting menu and it was spectacular! We had reservations for 7:30. They bring you over in a special room where you are seated with the best view of the kitchen. The presentation and the details that went into each dish were worthy of a Michelin star restaurant. Not only the presentation was excellent, the food tasted absolutely delicious. There were so many courses, and we loved that the chefs also shared information about where the ingredients were sourced from. We had a great time there and will be back again next time we are in the area!

We can't say enough about how much my husband and I enjoyed celebrating our first wedding anniversary here. The staff thought of every detail, from a welcome drink, to a super fun millennial-friendly playlist, to custom treats for our puppy once the staff found out about her. Certainly did not leave hungry from the tasting menu - multiple bites come out first, then several more substantial creations, then we were escorted to the magical dessert bar. Definitely a Japanese influence to the menu, though perhaps that evolves year-to-year. Only chef's tasting experience we can compare it to in DC is Sushi Nakazawa, which we also love, though we can see how the service and experience help earn jont its two stars. Defenitely an investment in an evening, though we thought it was well worth it.

On the weekend of August 16, 2025, I somehow chose the wrong time to come. I've had this restaurant on my radar for about a year before I flew to DC to try this place. I spent about 3 weeks researching on whether to pick a different place, but it was clear that this restaurant is in a class of its own. Was it the best restaurant I ever had? I think some other 2 stars beat it out internationally, but I do think it was the right choice to choose Jônt over similar restaurants in the area based on service alone. Why? Because despite the HVAC breaking, they accommodated every single person and made everyone feel special in some sort of way.... While staying in uniform. Imagine the stress of a high end kitchen service in what was maybe 85-90° and a fire going on while wearing FULL SUITS. They chose to continue with their professionalism and even brought other people cold towels while suffering. I loved how cute the cucalemons were and was given a free bowl of extra ones to snack on. The man next to me was approached by them to compliment his watch extensively despite being a relatively accessible (but nice) watch. It wasn't about how flashy you were for them to say anything, but they made you feel like the only person there. There was only one woman in the kitchen, but it was clear she has earned the respect of everyone around her since she was trusted with the most important dish in my opinion: the quail. The place itself was actually a bit sterile looking. But the way there was a bit of an ambiance: mood lighting, curtain, long flight of stairs where things feel a little more intimate. Dessert was in a third room as well. Overall, I cannot give anything less than a 5/5 if they're willing to put their blood, SWEAT, and tears into your dinner. 100% a place I'd consider highly for a date night if you're willing to shell out some doubloons.

Well hands down this was my favorite and best chef's tasting experience EVER! I've been to quite a few chef's tastings and Michelin star restaurants including Minibar, Gravitas, and many more throughout DC and Northern Virginia. This takes the lead by a mile! Let's summarize and then elaborate. There were so many perfect bites that were so well-balanced and cohesive you wouldn't discern all the different ingredients involved in the perfect harmony of taste. As expected there was upstanding customer service with well-informed and helpful staff throughout the restaurant. An overall amazing and satisfying experience but you certainly pay for it. A Japanese inspired menu is becoming pretty common. Many restaurants seek the accolade of being original and elevating dishes in a fresh way. However none have been able to make such amazing bites like Jont. As mentioned every dish was delicious! There was only one dish that I didn't LOVE but I still liked it. Past experiences at other places had at least a few dishes that missed the mark or were just too weird and disappointing. Each dish here had unique combinations of food that I never would have thought to put together yet blended so well it was like PB & J! I couldn't discern the separate ingredients nor did I need to think about it. Each unique in the progression with perfect seasoning, sweetness, richness, and more. The flavors were great. Service is usually wonderful at high end restaurants and Jont was no exception. Everyone was helpful and attentive. Prices are high so definitely go with eyes wide open if you can and jam out to 90s hip hop playing in the background. I'd give it more than 7 stars if I could!!!

I wanted to love it, but nothing stood out for it being a 2-star Michelin restaurant. Maybe I need to come back for a different seasonal menu. Service was okay.

Jont has been on our list for a while, and we were so excited to check it out for a fancy occasion. You'll feel like royalty when you dine here. They pay attention to every little detail. You can tell how much thought and labor goes into every step of the experience. It's nice to sit at the counter and be able to see each course being plated. Some of the courses that stand out in my memory are the radish & pink pineapple salad and the mushroom course that had 3 different presentations of mushrooms. Each morsel of food is packed with flavor. The dishes are unique but not overly experimental. Everything was well-balanced. We paid extra for the super special imported melon. It was truly delicious and worth trying! We also did two different drink pairings. Jake had the wine pairing, and I had the non-alcoholic pairing. We were so impressed with the NA pairing! They even had NA Champaign and a cocktail. After so many courses of food, we were stuffed, but we made it to dessert. Dessert was incredible. I loved the case of sweet bites and the homemade Madeleine cookies. Jont is all about the culinary experience. From the service, to the glassware, to the drinks, to each bite of scrumptious food, everything comes together seamlessly. I would definitely recommend planning a celebratory dinner here.

If you do anything when you go, please make sure to get the biscuits. Hands down THE BEST BISCUITS I've ever had lol. They are the most flaky and buttery biscuits, you can count each layer that these have. Pro tip is to ask for butter and the house made jam. We were sat in the solarium area, and it was during the heat dome, and it was really warm in there. Otherwise, though, it's completely charming inside and reminds us of some of the best French bistros we've been to in the country (e.g. Balzathar, Le Supreme). The three cocktails we tried--the frose, le jardin, and the clouseau--were all stunners. And of course the bread deserves another special mention, *especially* the room temperature butter. Thank you for not serving hard as hell butter! We shared the warm shrimp salad to start, and for $31, we were expecting more than a few avocado slices and 4 shrimp on it, but c'est la vie. The dressing was incredible, and the greens were crunchy. That's actually the only dish of the night that we thought was unfairly overpriced. One of us ordered the burger and the other got the rabbit pappardelle--you've got to get rabbit when you see it on a menu, which isn't often enough! There was a good amount of super tender meat and the pasta was perfectly al dente, all in a lightly stunning sauce. Chef's kiss. The burger was, no surprise, another triumph. There was juicy meat, bun integrity, and all the right accouterment notes. The fries are standard. Our daughter got their mac-n-cheese, which is probably just the gratin dish renamed. It was OK. We kind of got out of control for dessert and ordered the pot de creme, the cookie dough ice cream, and the profiteroles. Honestly, these were all good, but nothing that stood out as exemplary as with the savory stuff. Our only major complaint was the service. It was really spotty and while there was a very, very long gap in between when we got our water and then put in our drinks, but our mains came out almost directly after the salad. And the guy was just not very hospitable. Not necessarily a "bad" experience...it just could have been a lot better. Four stars, and we have already declared that we will be back again to "The Dip" because there is so much else on the menu that we want to try.

I also had a strawberry "poptart". The "poptart" was pretty good. When my coffee came out, it was white. Literally, white. It was whiter than the iced chai latte with whole milk that my husband had gotten. I had to send it back. I asked for it just black this time around, because I just didn't trust them to get "a splash" right. They were willing to do it, which was nice. The coffee was good, but it just wasn't what I had originally wanted.

They are happy to recommend beer for your taste, and let you sample. It can be very busy and difficult to get a seat at the bar or get a table on a Friday or Saturday evening. We ordered food, and were expecting elevated bar food. The tater tots were a huge disappointment- they were very large squares , bland, and not crispy. The wings were okay. The cheeseburgers were the best- from the restaurant downstairs- mallard. Huge burger, done perfectly medium.

I visited as part of the full experience -- dinner downstairs at Birch & Barley, then up to Churchkey for drinks -- and honestly, it's one of the best evenings I've had in DC. Churchkey itself is everything a great bar should be. The beer selection is absolutely unreal -- hundreds of carefully curated labels spanning every style, region, and flavor profile you can imagine. What sets it apart is that the staff actually knows the menu. Our server walked us through a few options based on what we liked and landed us on perfect picks both times. That kind of genuine expertise is rare. The tavern pizzas from the wood-fired oven were a wonderful surprise -- thin, crispy, and the perfect companion to a cold draft. The smash burger also deserves a mention: simple, well-executed, and hits the spot. The vibe is warm and lively without being overwhelming. Great for a date, a group, or even just sitting at the bar solo with a good beer and good conversation with the bartender. This place has earned its reputation as one of the best beer bars on the East Coast -- and then some. Highly recommend making a full night of it with both floors. You won't regret it. We could tell that they had all the families with little kids grouped to one side of the restaurant, and we felt that was clever and convenient. The food was great! We both got salads. I loved the snap pea chicken salad. And my husband really liked the soba noodle salmon salad. He had a Bloody Mary, and I had a yummy mocktail. Everything was great, including the service!

If that Coke wasn't a Pepsi, it was definitely a Coke Zero or Diet Coke. It tasted awful. Now, the food. The fries were pretty decent, but the au jus that came with my French dip wasn't hot, and it wasn't enough for the whole sandwich. The bread is supposed to get lost in the au jus with every bite. I had to ask for another boat. The menu said the sandwich had Gruyère, but if it was there, I couldn't taste it. I could taste horseradish and arugula. It wasn't worth the $33 menu price. The ambiance is a bit loud. The restaurant is very reverb-y, so I heard lots of talking (though some of it was probably due to the music's being too loud), but the waitstaff didn't compensate, so it was hard to hear their voices.
