Thanks for opening up my taste buds to good white port and three cheers for the beautiful views. Loved learning the history and science of port production and sitting down for a tasting with our small group was a relaxing way to start the day. Only wish was that we had more time to explore this and other little towns, as I am sure there are places to grab a bite to eat, but glad we had time on a boat on the river.

A pair of us shared the ribeye for two which had great flavor and was more than we could handle. The other two had the veal which was very tender. All if the desserts were perfection, very light with an abundance of flavors. The only miss was the wine tour/tasting. My friend made the arrangements for our lunch and tour reservations, checked that we had sufficient time time between them. The restaurant knew we had a tour and the tour people knew we had lunch reservations. We showed up for the tasting and were sort of scolded for being late. And apparently we were supposed to pick our tasting in advance so after the tour we had to quickly choose. Unfortunately, because we felt rushed, we just picked the classic tasting which turned out to be just ports and none of us are fans. That's on us for not taking the time we should have so I'm not hold that against them. The tour guide was very enjoyable to listen to and seemed to have real joy for her job.

First of all, my wife and I were traveling with our 8 month old daughter which made us a bit nervous about doing a full day tour, however they were beyond accommodating to us even going to the point of offering to help take care of our daughter while at wine tastings, lunch, and even staying with her and watching her in the car when we stopped for a short photo spot. The places we visited for wineries and lunch were very much local hidden gems / family run operations which really made us feel a closer connection with the local culture which we really enjoyed. Our experience with them went way beyond the full day tour which was amazing, they even suggested an amazing spot for dinner that we did the next day, even offering to make us a reservation and arrange for a local taxi to drive us both directions. We had such a great time exploring the smaller family owned/run wineries that we asked for suggestions on other wineries that we could look to visit during our stay. Andreia and Valdemar's true hospitality and passion to help people really came through that they even offered to look into wineries that were open/available, make reservations for us, and Valdemar even offered to pick us up and take us to the wineries. The whole experience with Andreia and Valdemar was way beyond what we ever could have expected from a Douro Valley Wine tour as we came away with such a better appreciation of the culture and 2 friends that we made during our travels.

This is a beautiful hotel in a stunning setting on the Douro River. The rooms are in 1-2 story…read morebuildings some with private entrances some shared just with a few rooms. Wandering around the property it's easy to get lost going up and down the stone steps as the whole place is built on the side of a hill. There is a hot tub although not in a great location, on a lower floor, and a pool - unheated - with scenic views. Our room is spacious and brightly colored with French doors - we shared the entrance with one room on our 2nd level and one below. This is a place you could definitely hang out for a week at least. We had two days there and it was wonderful. It's about a mile from downtown and the train station across the foot bridge although there's not much in town to see. We had dinner at the hotel both nights - 2 nice restaurants one an open air grill place and one for fine dining and also breakfast. Highly recommend this place if visiting Pinhao and the Douro valley.

Finally got a credit card form from them, and signed and sent back within 24 hours. They cancelled my reservation, because 24 hours is too long. Go figure. What a waste of time and effort. I recommend going to vineyard that actually cares about their customers. TAKE MY ADVICE AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

We enjoyed the somewhat pricey dinners in the renovated 18th century farmhouse, with diners from multiple countries conversing across different languages. Breakfasts were superb, although we missed our morning lattes, settling for coffee with a bit of milk. Staff were always ready to assist (in multiple languages!), but were never intrusive. Our room behind the farmhouse enjoyed a lovely view of the river valley with its terraced hillsides. We trekked the Red Trail straight down to the "corte" (a stream cutting through the hills draining into the Douro River a few kilometers distant), and then straight back up the road to the farmhouse as the sun came out. Such a pleasant experience (except possibly for the nerve-wracking descent on the access driveway!), and a highlight of our vacation.

The new owner, from France, has done a wonderful job renovating the space. We had a fantastic personal tour of the winery, from an explanation of the grapes to the equipment and development of their port and table wines. This is also one of the few places where they still stomp on the grapes. The guide was very knowledgeable and knew a lot about the history of the estate. Finally, we were able to sample the wines, which were all delicious. Overall, I really enjoyed this winery.

Our Sunday started just before 9am with pickup at our AirBnB, and then off to the valley. On the way to The first Quinta, Bruno planned 2 stops, one overlook with breathtaking views and the next has been a favorite stop for he and his family for decades! The first Quinta was so welcoming and the wine wonderful and complex, not all port but the port was divine. Next was lunch at DOC where The chef happened to be onsite and was so kind to join us for a picture after an exquisite meal expertly paired with wine. Then on to the second Quinta where we got an opportunity to talk with the wine manager who is passionate about wine, but most importantly living life. He could not personally join our tour, only because he was waiting to show the Mondavi family the impressive landscape of his vineyards! The ride home to Porto was lengthy, but Bruno is so easy to talk to and took us the long way home to point out his favorite spots for us to try. We took his recommendations for dinner the next 2 nights and were more than impressed! Thanks Bruno, and to your wife, for such a perfect day. Booking and communicating with Paulo to plan couldn't have been easier. We mixed up the train times and he ended up waiting for us at the train station, but he was very flexible and kind about it. Paulo's tour of his family's vineyard was one of the best wine/vineyard tours I've ever had. He's very intelligent and knowledgeable, not only about the wine and port making process but about the region's politics, regulations, and portuguese history. He graciously answered all questions from our group of 5 (we had a lot) - the conversation was easy and enjoyable the entire time. Lunch at the farmhouse was absolutely perfect. It is hard to pick which course was the best between the local meats, soup, and tasty dessert. After lunch Paulo took us for a coffee and we headed to the dock where we chose to go out in his sailboat. The views were amazing, the company even better. Paulo got us back to the train station just in time for our return. I can't recommend Paulo enough. We miss him!!
