A pleasant surprise!…read more One thing I really dislike about travelling on my own is a general feeling of discomfort eating in restaurants by myself. From the outside, I was a bit apprehensive about going in to this place, but once I opened the door I was greeted by such warmth that I felt at home immediately. The restaurant is full of cosy nooks and crannies over a number of rooms, so it feels small and intimate even though the capacity is actually large. The food was perfect for the rainy evening outside - a surprisingly large menu of traditional Austrian fare accompanied by an equally large range of quality local wines. I ordered the chicken "geschnetzeltes", which is a traditional mildly spiced chicken ragout in creamy paprika-zucchini sauce. To finish I had the best apple strudel I have had in years, all accompanied by a sauvignon blanc from the area. Verdict: wonderfully simple local food in a good atmosphere. The staff were very friendly too.

People leaving can oversee the terrace. Due to the closed environment not so much fresh air, even if it was outside in the evening. It has traditional Austrian food, but for tourists. I had a schnitzel that was average at most and over fried in used oil. Could feel taste of fish in the crust. The waiter was a nice lady that tried to compensate for the average food. She was nice and friendly but I was there for the food not for new friends. And last ... the prices... oau... over 20 euro for a schnitzel. All in all... if no other options... go and check it out good is safe, but if you want to enjoy it, try something else.

But most of all...just enjoy the view and the fresh air. If you are lucky enough, you may be able to see sunrise or sunset while you enjoy your drink and/or food. This restaurant is located on top of the hill. You will more than likely need to take the funicular, the lift, or walk up the stairs, and then any of these to get back down. We chose to go up on the funicular and then come down on the lift. None of these are associated with the restaurant. Surprisingly, the restaurant is not touristy, but rather a place to hang out, and is frequented by the locals as well. The prices are fair and the menu is limited but ample. The atmosphere is simple, inviting, and "chill". They have indoor and outdoor seating. Dogs are welcome.

Drinks are great, not overly expensive and the kitchen is open until 9pm, little snacks (canapés) until 10pm. Cocktails are mixed with skill and taste really good. My favourite is the "passionfruit" reminds me of the rooftopbar in Bangkok. Another bonus is the toilet, awesome interior design - and, for all the shoe lovers out there, there is a pair of black louboutins you can admire in the stall! Best part is: no actual touching of the front door to the lavatory required: opens with a button-thing on the wall (perfect for germophobes). Service is also great and blankets they offer for sitting outside are really cozy and no cheap fleece ones either! All in all a great place to go if you're looking for something different, still very central but not overcrowded with people.
